R (D)COM automation server for windows, type mismatch?
Hello!
I just started experimenting with the (D)COM automation server for R
(server version 0.99, R 1.3.0, Win NT)
All the precompiled sample executables work.
When I write programms myself, in this case Visual Basic for Applications
within Excel, I can attach a graphics device but not a character device.
The controls I added to the form by means of the 'toolbox' both originate

Printers Icon
I have installed Samba2.2.7a on an Ultra5 Solaris 8 Operating System. The
smb.conf file has been configured and all appears to work fine. However,
along with my shared resource, I am seeing the Printers icon. I only want
to use Samba to share resources, and not for printing. Is there a way to
make the Printers Icon invisible? I already tried the hide files, and
veto files parameters in

Is Samba made for trash ?!?
Hi Sambafriends !
I have done a migration from Novell to a Samba-PDC in a medium enterprise
with nearly 50 workstations eight weeks ago.
When i look at the /var/log/warn listing i still see some errors, and i

Half Life 2 - Can't get past the loading screen
I'm running the game with the following options:
> -novid -dxlevel 90 -width 1024 -height 768
I've got sound working using the ALSA driver.
I can play other games just fine.
I have an ATI Radeon X2300 which never game me any problems, I even used glxgears and got these results, which I think are ok:

Icecast protocol
Well I'm writing my own source client to automatize song selection,
decoding/encoding and maintaning a few tasks on my website (listeners
requests, current playing song and playlist, etc...) I've understood
that basically icecast protocol is http, then pure ogg or mp3 data.
I've found a lot of usefull library (JOgg, JFlac, etc). Thanks for the
help, I'm digging into

[LLVMdev] Whole program alias analysis in backend
Hello everyone,
we are planning to implement a stronger alias analysis
for backend, because e.g. for VLIW architectures, this is our main
performance limitation.
I would have 2 questions regarding this.
I know that backend processes one function at a time,
is it somehow possible to do there a whole program analysis,
or could you give me some guidelines?
Which alias analysis algorithm

Problem with authentification Samba 3.0.24
Dear listmembers,
a few weeks ago i've installed a server based on openSUSE 10.0 and Samba
3.0.20
in addition to two existing Windows 2003 servers. My aim is to replace the
Windows servers in medium term.
The Samba server uses Kerberos v5 to authentificate the users against the
W2003-Server. The W2003-Server ist the primary domain controller, the other
W2K3-server is the "backup domain

Samba corruption and SuSE 8.0]
All,
I hope you can help, I've searched the archives and found some reference
to some file corruption problems, but with earlier versions of Samba to
what I am running.
Having replaced my old NT4 server at home (after it's boot disk died)
with Samba running on SuSE 8.0 I've had 3 instances of files becoming
corrupted when saved from my wife's Windows 2000 PC. What happens is

Samba Dropouts...
OK, I have been banging my head into the wall on this now for two or more
weeks
We have a samba server (2.2.8 then 2.2.8a) running on top of a 320 GB raid
ATA-raid array with a FastTrack controller. Both the server and workstations
are running through Gigabit NIC's. Every five or so minutes the workstations
loose communications with the server, Then it takes 10-15 seconds for the

Samba as PDC for WinXP, Win98 and Win95
Hello!
Ive just got the lovely job of converting and old Windows NT 4
fileserver to FreeBSD, ive set up samba before as a simple fileshare but
this place requires roaming profile login from WinXP, Win98 and Win95
clients.
My question is whether or not any of you people have any experience with
this and might be able to give some tips on the way? I've tried fidling
with it but i cant get

ok, so oplocks: good or bad?
I have been searching for info on this and haven't found an
authoritative answer. From what I have read, oplocks are good because
they increase connection speeds, but they are bad because they don't
really work, but they actually do work, but they only work in some
cases, etc etc.
so, here's my problem and my question together: I get tons of these
messages every day (over a thousand a

*** Asterisk Sunday News: Off track with 1.0, moving forward
Thank you very much for all feedback on Asterisk Sunday News!
This is the last issue for June. This week I'll go on holiday
and will be back with more news in early July.
My kids are getting summer leave this week and we'll be
visiting the south of England for a while. Another part of
Europe that still use their own currency.
If you think there's an European standard, you're

re: Samba up, but not listening
I am confused by this paragraph:

smb.conf has nothing to do with the Redhat firewall. I use ipchains
but Redhat likely used a more advanced firewall, that I can't really help you
with much, if that is your problem.

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a
LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on
the server the clients to have roaming profiles.
For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to
avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the
production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

Dumb Question about Domains and PDC's
Dumb Question...
What is the value of a Domain in a small Samba-server environment? Why is
it better than a "security = user"?
What are the drawbacks of a Domain in a small (singleserver even)
environment?
Thanks!
