I am attempting to integrate a Linux Samba Server with an NT 4.0 PDC. Ideally I am looking to authenticate the users on the PDC, and then permit access to the Samba Shares on the Linux Box. I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the BDC. The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and the PDC is in another. I've got a Samba box (2.2.5a) as a member of a Samba domain. Both the PDC and client are running 2.4.18 with XFS and ACLs compiled in. Problem: on the client, I can -NOT- modify the ACLs for files from Windows. (Note that I can modify the stock Unix permissions, but not the extended users/permissions that ACL support offers.) If I try, they just vanish when I click "OK".

Hi, I have a box running Mandrake 8.2 and samba 2.2.4 on an NT domain. smbpasswd -j says it joins the domain ok, I use the included sys-auth-windbind file for pam, and the winbind entries are in nsswitch.conf. Everything appears to be running, but when I try wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain users". getent passwd only return the linux accounts. Yet wbinfo -t returns

I am running Mandrake 9.0 and have installed OpenLDAP by using RPMDrake and installing it from a package included on the CD's. When I run ./configure it never finds the installation. How can I fix this? Is OpenLDAP absolutely required to get Samba working with Windows 2003? Thanks Matt

Hello all I recently recompiled samba 2.2.5 with LDAP, SSL and libsmbclient as additional configure options. I used the base 2.2.5-2mdk source package (to the uninitiated, it's a Mandrake package). I have added a machine account to /etc/passwd named luna$ and in smbpasswd named luna. When I attempt to join my Win2K box to the domain, I get this error. The following error occured attempting to join the domain: The account used is a computer account. Use your global user account or local user account to access this server.
