I'm currently having to start it by running the following commands; ./usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -D ./usr/local/samba/sbin/nmbd -D I've got the Using samba book from o'reilly, but

changing ip
I require some advice. I've had samba running nicely for a couple of months, however I needed to change the ip addresses for my network. Since changing the ip addresses, whenever I start WinXp and log on it takes about 3-4 mins to log on. Also when I try to browse using windows explorer I sometimes have to wait 3-4mins, then I get the same delay when logging off. If I use dos though and change

Gordon, I did as you suggested, and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the suggestion However, this is contrary to the given docs on how to use CUPS with Samba, is it not? Joining WinXp to Samba PDC
After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an account with permission to join the domain. Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other samba users. Do I have to create another user or something?

Can't see all of the directories in a share with 2.2.7a-1 & RH8...but older version/kernel can
Hi all, Hoping someone might be able to steer me in the right direction and/or help me solve my problem. We have a number of Linux servers (RH6.2 -> RH8) which connect to the same share on a Win2000 Server. We've been working kinda hard to get everything upgraded to either RH7.3 or RH8.0 since we rarely get the opportunity. 2 similar servers (one dev, one prod) access this same window

Win98 clients accessing Samba file server.
HI All I'm in the process of setting up my first Linux box at work, a basic file server for all 20+ Win clients (I'm sick of paying M$ CAL) all have a 'home' directory and all share a 'shared' directory. What my problem is, everything is working OK with WinXP/2000 I can see the shared directory and our own home directory on the Samba box. With Win98 I can only see and

too much logging
I'd like to reduce the amount of logging that takes place on my RH 9 smb server, running 2.2.7a. Currently every single file access gets logged, which is way to much for me - I get 2-5Mb daily log files on occasion. Could someone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks. -- Julian.

RH8 guest: bad fs?
I recently reinstalled RH8 as a VMware guest on a WinXP box. I used a previously proven script at level 3, containing, in one line with no inappropriate spaces: mount -t smbfs -o user,noauto,dmask=777,fmask=777,username=xx, password=yy //DELLBOX/linuxShare /mnt/linuxShare I get a failure that reports numerous possibilities including bad fs, and other other things. I suspect I omitted a
