FW: Samba authentication against a windows 2000 domain.
Hi all, I've got an authentication issue with SAMBA as a member server in a Win 2000 domain, Basically I need to authenticate users against the domain. Unfortunately my clients are not all domain members so they send <something>\username not <domainname>\<username>. I need to get samba to replace whatever with the domainname or to get the clients to send the right

problem.(since Samba will then look at the standard passwd file) But I am looking for alternatives since having unencrypted passwords flying around the network causes too big of a security hole. Is there a way I can make an automated script that will sync the NIS passwd database with the smbpasswd database for all users? 50% of the users won't use their shell account on this machine, but

IDMAP, WINBIND and NIS
I have posted on this subject before but am still running into problems. The main question is whether I need to use Windbind in a single samba domain when each samba server also uses NIS for centralized unix level authentication. And if, in fact, I need windbind do I need it on all the samba servers? And do I need a central IDMAP respositoryor other mechanism to maintain consident SIDs? My

domain-member and groups
List, I've got a fileserver running (as a domain-member) on a NT4 domain. It seems to be working fine... (I'm using winbind/nss for uids and gids) When a user creates a folder on the share, it is owned by him - fx: drwxr-xr-x 2 administrateur wheel 512 Oct 17 15:44 again/ (where administrateur is attached to the NT domain) Now - all files created are owned by the correct user,

Samba PDC and Windows 2000 Server
Hi, I am a UNIX system administrator using Samba for real use since not so long. That means I do not have a lot of Windows way of thinking understanding. I get some strange trouble with my configuration. Maybe some of you may help me. Here is the deal : I get a physical network with some workstations running dual boot Linux and Windows 2000 Pro. On that network I have a host acting as NIS,

Samba and Winbind
Hello eveyone, Thanks in advance, for what every help you can provide me :) I'm trying to get Winbind to work at home, but I seem to be getting nowhere awfully fast. Here's my situation. I have a server (Redhat 9.0) called Mail... which acts as SAMBA PDC, NIS/NFS, MAIL, DNS and DHCP server. In addition, I have two other servers setup. 1 is an Windows 2000 standalone server, that

Transitioning NT groups?
So, I'm in the process of transitioning our NT domain controllers over to Samba. I've never tried to get Samba to act as a full PDC before, so this is new territory for me. We still have a number of NT servers (not DC's) that have various directories owned by various NT groups and have various permissions referring to groups, which unfortunately have to remain NT. I currently

No, if it is a standalone server, it doesn't really care about what SID itself has (localsid), but

Attempting a trust between Samba and Windows AD DC
Hi all, I didn't have much luck getting SSSD to work so I'm currently testing out the following: Built a new member server from source on Ubuntu 16.04. I used the following ./configure statement: ./configure --enable-fhs --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu This seems to install nicely onto Ubuntu and puts everything in the right

SAMBA ADS to NIS mapping
I am working in an environment with an HP-UX NIS that my Red Hat ES 4.x system is using for Unix access controls. My Red Hat system is serving as an NFS server for the HP-UX users who also could be Windows users coming from a Windows Server 2003 active directory. I have tested some configurations of SAMBA using winbind, but I don't get the results I want. What happens when using winbind

non-interactive ssh connections (was Re: RSYNC ISSUE)
First, an item to fix: the substitution of "-P" for "-p". All good operating systems are case-sensitive, and many utilities, ssh included, are case sensitive about their options. "-P" is passed along with the "-p" to signal that the next parameter is the passphrase, to enable passphrase setting directly in the commandline. If that's wrong,

Samba setup with Winbind connecting to NT4 PDC - Login is now Slow...
Hi Guys, I've reverted back to a image and tried this multiple time and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I installed Samba right now i'm using ver 3.07 but 3.04 did the same thing for me... This is what I basically do... - Install samba - Install winbind - Turn both on at boot - configure my smb.conf file and test : wbinfo -g wbinfo -u getent passwd etc

Gouri: close. Try "Ssh-keygen -p -P ''". You might argue that ssh should guess that -P imlplies -p, but that's an issue for your ssh maintainer. Also: you don't ordinarily distribute the private key. You need the PUBLIC key in $HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys on any system you want to access with the private key. Maybe i'm seing your application backward, and you
