WinXP Printing issue
Greetings!
I'm running Samba 2.2.5 on HP-UX 10.20.
I've recently started adding WinXP clients to my network. Here's my
issue:
I installed a WinXP machine on the network. I was able to add a
bunch of samba-networked printers to the Xp machine.
I recently added 2 new printers to the network. I added the printer
names to my samba "printcap" file. I'm able to

XP & 2000 Printer problem
I'm having a problem with my XP & 2000 pc's, with printers.
During the initial installation and configuration of these machines,
everything is fine. But any printer added to the network AFTER the
initial config of the winXP & win2000 pc's, isn't available to these
machines.
So... if I add any printers to my network, I can't use them with my

Win 2000 & XP Printer problem RESOLUTION
In case anyone was interested... this turned out to be a Super
BONEHEAD problem....
My printer name was "testron".
Well... come to find out, I have a share with the same name.
Imagine that.
Just an FYI to those new to samba... can't have printer & share names
the same.

controllers, models and views in plugins
Hello all,
Is it possible to package controllers, models and views in a plugin? The
tutorials for plugins seem rather sparse at the moment...
I''ve written a form "widget" that I''ve been using as a partial that I would
like to reuse in other projects. I was thinking about making a component
out of it, but I need to be able to access some of the form data that it

Or/ If not that, then how can i check for the extensions?

file existing. does anyone know how to do this?

In your smb.conf file... there's a line something like this:
lock dir= /opt/samba/var/locks
Make sure this directory EXISTS and is read/writeable.
Just a suggestion.

Windows 3.1 and Samba
Has anybody got some experience with connecting machines running Windows3.1
or WfWG (3.11) to Samba? We would like to run a small lab network with
user accounts and a shared printer off the samba box. Samba is running fine
and there's no problem to connect to it from the Win95/WinNT machines...
Any help appreciated.

nmbd over ppp
hello everyone.
I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to
dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big
prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2
, which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd
shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found.

RPM upgrade question
I upgraded my samba package on my RedHat 6.1 installation via RPM. I used
the samba-2.0.7-20000425.i386.rpm file. I had to first uninstall the
packages:
samba-common-2.0.5a-12
samba-client-2.0.5a-12
because of package dependencies. I'm guessing, then, that the
samba-2.0.7-20000425 package includes the files that had been included
separately with the common and client packages. Is this

smbfs mounted files created owned by root?
Hi all. We have been denying NFS access to our Linux et al users since
they can of course set their uid to whatever they want. So we tell them
to use smbfs. But when I just tried experimenting by mounting my own
network share on my Linux box via smbfs, and created a few files, I loo
on the serevr and the files are all owned by root?! This has got to be a
configuration issue right?

Directory Permissions
I have set up several shares which our staff will have access to. They
are central repositories where we will be storing things like documents
and drivers, etc. I would like to allow staff to add items into the
shares, but to now be able to remove anything (Except maybe what they put
in..)
I have created a share called drivers:

Am I trying the wrong things?
I'm having some small trouble getting my local lan running the way I
want. I have two samba servers, Windows 95, 98, and NT Workstation
systems on it (which are also doing some peer-to-peer sharing). It's
all one IP net; there's an ethernet switch in the middle, and a couple
of peripheral hubs each connected to that switch. Note that I do NOT
have an NT Server system; I'm not

starting smb services at bootup on x86 RH6.1
I am running RH6.1 on an x86 with 2.0.6 installed with an RPM. I am
confused as to getting smb to start at bootup. It works fine if I start it
manually (/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start). I swear, the 5.2 installation had
smb start at bootup, but I can't find the difference between the two. Is
the answer
1 - edit the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat needed a line uncommented)

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with
tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still
only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is
working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet
127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and nothing wrong happen. FYI I set

Samba + Quickbooks file problems
I updated samba to samba-2.0.7-4 (RedHat RPM). That didn't help.
I changed the file ownership to user.group from user.user. That didn't help.
I changed the file permissions to -rwxrwxr-- as you had suggested, and then
it worked.
(QuickBooks 99 needs *both* the file permissions set as noted *and* the
ownership also.)
However, when everyone closes QuickBooks the QBI file is deleted, and
