Q on configuring shared mboxes
Hello! I have the following three types of mailboxes on my server: 1) Regular user mail /var/mail/<user> in mbox format 2) Suspected spam in /var/tmp/spamprobe in mbox format 3) Archived mailing list in /home/mks/mksarch in mbox format I want the 1) to be only accessible to the respective <user>, obviously (POP3 and/or IMAP4). I wanted the 2) to be accessible to all users --

[Maybe OT]: SIP Provider
Hi all! Currently I'm using Messagenet, a SIP-Provider in Italy, to have an italian number via VoIP, _to receive calls only_. I use it to allow my friends and parents in Italy to call me in Germany without paying too much. This service was free of charge in the last years. Now will Messagenet beginning from end of november, to cancel this free service and only offer paying services (for

symbolic linking libs | thanks!
Several good suggestions were sent my way - much appreciated. In my experience, any solution to a problem that gives a user write access to anything other than their own /home directories is a disaster waiting to happen (spoken as someone who has burned in past doing otherwise). So, I'll pursue some approaches that don't reequire the /lib access option. [[alternative HTML version

Strange delay in syscall close() on a large ext3-filesystem
Dear Mailinglist, this morning I had a very strange problem with my SuSE Groupware-Server SLOX 4.1. The webmail-access was very slow and even with thunderbird the access to my mailboxes was not okay. I rebooted the whole system, but the problem still was there. I thought, this may be a problem with cyrusd, but I realized, that the error was somewhere deeper in the system, maybe in the

Samba3-LDAP PDC and SUSE OpenExchange
Hi all, I have setup a Samba3 PDC and BDC with an LDAP backend to replace my current NT 4.0 infrastructure. This configuration is working fine. I also am testing integration of SuSE OpenExchange and would like to have it authenticate logons via the domain LDAP database. >From my preliminary testing i have found that OpenExchange attempts an LDAP search for some information regarding the cyrus

Suse Linux OpenExchange Server (Samba 2.2.5) and XP
Sorry of I'm going over old ground ... We are in the process of putting in a Suse Linux OpenExchange Server (SLOX) which at present includes Samba 2.2.5*. We are also attempting to use this as a PDC for XP clients that we are going to be rolling out. Now, everything seems to be going down the pan, and it looks like the problem is that XP has dropped support for 'old style'

isolinux pathnames
Quick Question About Bootable CDs: Am I correct in assuming that ISOLINUX locates its files by accessing a Directory Tree in ASCII addressed by the Primary Volume Descriptor in the final session of the CD? I'm working on an On-The-Fly CDR Archiving Program and doing some advance research into Boot Mechanisms. Faictz Ce Que Vouldras: Frank Mitchell

How is "Canonicalized pathnames" bit handled by samba server??
Hi, Can anyone explain what is the use of the "Canonicalized pathname" bit in the SMB header's flags field. How is it handled by linux samba server. What are the implications of this bit being set or not set?? I am facing a problem accessing a share on Linux server using rtsmb cifs library. I get BAD_NETWORK_NAME error and the share access fails. But the same share access passes

INSTALL script does not handle spaces in pathnames correctly (PR#242)
Full_Name: Lyndon Drake Version: Version 0.65.0 Under development (unstable) (August 07, 1999) OS: Linux 2.2.2 Submission from: (NULL) (202.14.102.52) I was attempting to install the DSE package from a directory whose pathname includes spaces. The INSTALL script interprets spaces in the pathname as a separator. For example: [lyndon@beat Rdse]$ pwd /home/lyndon/doc/uni/415.704 Computer Systems

Windows Pathnames with spaces in Puppet file directive
I have to change a file in c:\Program Files <x86>\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0. I have tried various ways to encapsule the Windows path with spaces but to no avail. The following file { "\"c:\\program files <x86>\\MSBuild\\Microsoft.Cpp\\v4.0\\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets\"": ensure => present, source =>

Combining NFS and Samaba - file locking
I have a network where we have a main site with a PDC, and two remote sites with BDCs. The backend is LDAP which is slaved to the remote sites, Samba is 2.2.8a, the main server is part of the Suse Linux OpeneXchange Server, the other two servers are Suse Standard Server 8. What I wanted to do was to have users at the various sites map one drive from their 'local' server. Behind the

blocking / non-blocking read of files at samba SERVER
Hello there How can I determine wether the samba server is reading files itself in blocking or non-blocking mode. And where in the source may i find this? I did find those functions dos_open() ... and the send_smb(), which is getting an empty answer on reading a file (or better to say an timeout, ?? blocking mode used ??) sends this to the receive_smb() used by smbclient an this ends up in a

Problem delivering files
Hello samba people I do not know if it is a bug, but a problem indeed: we have a Sun running solaris 2.7 samba 2.0.6) and NT clients AND a HSM Filesystem called samfs. This keeps data on tapes, and 16kB on disk. A client request a file can leed into grabbing a tape and bring back the data online to disk. 1) NFS Client waits for data until it's coming, even 1 day 2) (NT)/smbclient gets 16k

several errors with irregular pathnames
I've written a GUI for using rsync on windows machines for third-party use. The project has reached a beta state and is now being tested in live situations. However, during these tests, I've encountered some odd behavior with specific pathnames. For the record: I'm currently using a cygwin distribution which includes rsync 2.6.3 to run rsync on Windows machines. The remote server is

Spatial Statistics on Grids
Dear colleagues, I'm searching for methods to analyze spatial distributions of cells with certain properties in a regular grid. For instance, consider a grid, where a part of the cells have the property "0", and the others have the property "1". I'm looking for statistics I could use for characterizing the spatial distribution of the "1-cells". Does anyone

NT Server Tools
Hello! I'm the email admin for a reasonably large Exchange/NT system, trying to make a go of a Linux/SLOX replacement as an example of what can be done. Obviously, to do my job I need to run a fair bit of Windows software, and this is where Wine comes in. One of the real biggies is the NT Server Administration tools (the ones provided to run from a workstation) such as USRMGR.EXE and

Lagging failed login attempts
Samba 2.2.8a on Suse 8 (part of SLOX system - no I can't upgrade until Suse upgrade the system) Windows XP Pro clients Are failed client logins on the XP clients logged anywhere ? How about non-domain member clients accessing shares ? I've been asked to provide a log of failed login attempts with a view to spotting break-in attempts (apparently auditors like that sort of thing). There
