Samba BDC and secrets.tdb question
I have a question about setting up a samba BDC
(with a samba PDC).
I am running Samba as the PDC on a small network.
Other Unix boxes on the network are running
with:
security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = Yes
update encrypted = Yes
password server = 192.168.1.5
So they make use of the PDC for smbmount and smbsh
applications. The W2K box also uses Samba at the PDC.
I want to set up a Redhat

Controlling Samba with xinetd
Hi all
Just a query from a fellow tech who's playing with Samba.
He just asked me the following question, it's something I've
never really thought of, but on the face of it could be worth
further investigation.
Any thoughts??
TIA

Wine - Broderbund Print Shop - printing
I am running wine 20050725.
I used winetools to get an assortment
of software loaded and with a bit of tweeking
it worked.
I then ran the install CD for Broderbund
"The Print Shop". It loaded OK and after
copying a few dll's from my windows box, it
came up and ran.
My problem is with printing.
After reading through the users guide on printing
and poking around in the archives

freebsd and smbmount
Hi,
I don't know how many people on this list use samba with freebsd , but I
have a question.
I have samba set up and can connect to my other win conputers using
smbclient but I am told that freebsd does not have smbmount.
i need to mount my win hard drives in order to back them up.
Is this possible some way with samba under freebsd.
Thanks
Rick

Configure parameters for Redhat Linux 7.1
Redhat Linux will install and configure Samba
Currently 2.2.1a.
The pieces are not placed in /usr/local/samba/...
Does anyone have the configure parameters that would
allow a "make install" of Samba 2.2.2 to put
everything in the right place?
I could not find this in the archives.
Also, it appears smbsh is still broke in
Samba 2.2.1 for Redhat 7.2. Is this known
to be the case?

smbmount for Solaris
Sirs,
I hate to clutter your email with this inquiry, but I haven't been able to
get info otherwise. I want to mount shares on an Microsoft XP Pro server
on two Suns, Sparc running Solaris 2.6 and another Sparc running Solaris
8. What do I need for this?? I downloaded the Samba software from
sunfreeware.com but it seemed to just allow the XP to mount the Sun shares.
I hope you can help

FW: smbsh problem - please help
Hi,
currently I am running Solaris 8 and I am trying to install Samba so
that I can run smbsh to access a Windows server. I do the following:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba --with-smbwrapper
make
make install
All the documentation I have seen says what I am doing is correct.
Neither the configure nor any of the make commands fail. And once the
installation is complete everything else

SMBSH is really neat. After you compile and install it (./configure
--enable-smbwrapper ; make ; make install does it) you simply run it -
it'll give you a login/pw and your usual shell prompt. You then can

FW: samba woes
All,
I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last
few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

SAMBA and network security (Try 2 without HTML)
I did not mean to send the previous question in HTML.
I wish to solicit information and comments.
I am attempting to convince our ITS department to
create trust accounts for the Samba server nodes on
some of our lab machines which sit across an internal firewall
from the corporate network. My purpose is to access
UNIX files on the samba servers from PC's connected
to the corporate lan.

mach64 driver, latest update in CentOS 6.8, symbol lookup error
I am loading a server from the CentOS 6.7 ISO and then upgrading. After loading at release 6.7, the machine behaves normally. After running yum update, the X server will not start. Attempts to start it manually result in one of the following messages depending upon which OS is loaded. I initially loaded it as 64 bit and when that did not work I tried the 32 bit version of the OS. The

CentOS 5 Beta - Yum Updates?
I am new to CentOS. I mostly use
Fedora Core. I installed the CentOS 5 Beta
on a test machine from the DVD. I configured
it with both KDE and Gnome. I am using
the default YUM configurtion which loaded
with the DVD.
Unlike FC7T2, CentOS 5 Beta does not seem to pick
up Yum updates. Is this by design or do I
need to add repos to my /etc/yum.repos.d?
Thanks for any suggestions

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about
it on the mailing lists.
I am trying to get at the /smb file system.
My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh.
When I try executing smbsh, I see:
[reg@orion bin]$ smbsh
Username: rwclemens
Password:
ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument)
Looking at the code its not

Need help
I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X.

Complete Web Interface?
Hi all,
I was wondering, has anyone built a complete web interface for SMB servers? What I was thinking of would be something like SMB2WWW, but that would also allow the user to click command buttons to delete, upload, move, rename, etc. Permissions to the shares would be established the same way as they are done now, by asking for a username / password on restricted shares.
Essentially, I

Wanting to run a UNIX command on Windows shared files
Hi everybody,
I posted the following on 'comp.protocols.smb' newsgroup but got no answer.
I'm now trying this way.
On one side, I have a Solaris 7 box running Samba 2.2.0 and on the other, a
W2K
machine sharing to everyone in full access mode the contents of its
C:\Public directory.
Is there a way to run a UNIX script or command on this Windows share? I

Database connections...so many connections!
Hello all.
I am currently running a very simple ruby app. It connects to an Oracle
server using the OCI8 adapter.
I have two controllers, each one connects to a different schema on the
server, I looked at the WIKI that had details of multiple database
connections
(http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoUseMultipleDatabases), I
moved the code from the application controller into each

Unresolved references in libnetsnmpagent.so
Hi,
I am running an up to date centos5.9 system.
The package,
net-snmp-devel-5.3.2.2-20.el5
Contains among oteher things:
/usr/lib/libnetsnmpagent.so
When I link with this library (-lnetsnmpagent), I get a bunch of unresolved references.:
My Google searches has not given me hints to where the C to Perl library exists.
I would guess that yum would have loaded the correct package as a
