Second Posting! Please reply - Need HELP!!
I am first time SAMBA user. System information: Unix = HP-UX 11.0 Network = Windows 2000 Things that I did: 1) Logged into our test unix box as “root”. Created a directory “samba” underneath “/home/root”. 2) Went to samba website and downloaded “samba-2.2.7a.tar.gz” onto my “C:\” (my desktop). I am aware that the latest “How to” book in its “Installation section asks me to use command “wget

Does 3MB/sec seem as fast as Samba is?
Hi All, I've been experimenting with Samba 2.2.7a Debian 3.0 on a dual PIII 1000 SMP box, 1GB ram, and a fast RAID 5 array (150MB/sec write local). It seems that no matter what options I set in smb.conf nor what underlying filesystem I use (JFS, EXT3, XFS) I can only get 3MB/sec MAX on writes out of samba from any Windows client in my environment. Given that wire speed for fast ethernet ought

smbclient -c commands
Hello, Has anyone else run into the problem where smbclient only processes the commands before a space in the "command string" (-c) field but not the rest? My NON-WORKING example: # smbclient '\\server\Documents' -d 0 -U abackup -E -c 'archive 1;recurse;du' Password: Archive level is 0 It processed the "archive" (returning what archive level it's at

Winbind: login "cannot find name for group ID XXXXX" ONLY RedHat 8
My RedHat 8.0 workstation doesn't want to play nice with Winbind. The rest of our Samba servers (on RedHat 7.3) are working fine, and I am familiar with setting up Winbind. Samba: 2.2.7a (RPM from Samba.org. RedHat's RPMs do same thing.) Kernel 2.4.20 NT 4 domain I'd copied the pam and smb.conf from a working box in testing. Getent passwd and group works, BUT getent group

writing to a samba share
Just wanted to know how to make a directory writeable. I have used the following variables, but have been unsuccessful to write to a particular samba share using XP: [share] ... writeable = yes write list = username Are there any more options I need to allow a user to write to his own directory? Thanks. sandrewz __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?

It's been brought to my attention that I am committing the ultimate sin of sending HTML mail to the list (probably including this one). Unfortunately I have an infrastructure problem which is presently forcing me to use Outlook Web Access (I usually use Pine). I'm working on it. Your patience is appreciated. -dan miller <p>__________________________________________________ Do

Samba on OSX
Hi all, new to the list but have read the archives. I am trying to get my OSX box to be a PDC with win2k clients, but am having trouble. I can't seem to find any documentation on this, nor have I seen anyone with experience doing this. Can someone point me to some resources I could RTFM before I start asking questions to the list? Thanks!

symbolic links
rsync -aub foo/ bar/ will always overwrite a file in bar with a symbolic link of the same name in foo. And there is no backup written. Is this a bug, or is there a command-line option to change this behavior? In particular, I'd like to prevent the overwriting of regular files with symbolic links and send a warning message to the screen if it cannot be determined which is more recent.

new CUESHEET metadata block
Hi all, I started up a discussion on Hydrogen Audio about a new FLAC metadata block for storing cuesheets. This is really the last missing piece in archiving CDs. Here's the link: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=4646 I would appreciate any feedback anyone has on the subject. If it's not too inconvenient, try replying on the forum there (not sure if you

FLAC joins Xiph
It's official: http://xiph.org/ogg/flac.html It's OK to keep submitting patches but I'm going to hold off on integrating anything until CVS is moved over. Note that codec code (libFLAC, libFLAC++, libOggFLAC, libOggFLAC++) will be covered under Xiph's BSD-like license from here on out. Lyra or other portable devices
I was reading in the archives that people were looking into how to play ogg orbis on the Lyra. Did anything happen with that? I have a lyra, and I'm looking into buying another mp3 player soon-- if there is a way to play ogg vorbis on one of the ones I'm looking at, I'd really like to know. Incremental transfers: how to tell?
Hello. I just started messing around with RSync to synchronize some RRD files between a couple BSD/Linux boxes. To test, I'm just trying to sync about 20 of these files which are about 256KB each. It seems that the full contents of each file are being transferred each time; i.e., the incremental transfer feature isn't working. I'm basing this assumption on output such as the

ssh channel window and adjustment
1) I think you should mail to: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org 2) I think that you have some miss-understood: the client and server count the window independtly. It mean: concerning data sent from client to the server: the SERVER set it initial window size and whenever he ready to get more data he sent adjust. such data can be a user command which generate a lot of output

Memdisk & tomsrtbt
tom & peter Hi Guys, I have a little problem I'm hoping you can help me with. When I try to boot toms image, memdisk states a "fractional end sector" while loading the image. It continues with the process until I get a "Booting..." prompt and then freezes. Here's the whole story: A while back I acquired version tomsrtbt 2.0.103, to make a multi-image boot cd as
