NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID
as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not
that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major
Hardware failure.)
How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S'
from the new Samba DC?

Samba PDC + Winbind
Hello all.
First, a little background...
I recently downloaded samba-*-ldap-2.2.5-2mdk , installed on Mandrake
8.2 and got everything working fine.
I have LDAP installed for "single sign-on" support. I can use LDAP to
authenticate other Linux boxes, and have Samba as a PDC for some Win2000
boxes - all working fine. Linux users are the same as PDC users, except
for their passwords

NT username/password export
Sorry for all the newbie questions...
I could have sworn I saw something about a utility that exports the SAM
database from NT into Linux..
seems like it is the lego syndrome, saw it while doing WINBIND searches,
can't find it elsewise...anyway...could someone point me in the right
direction?
I want to export my users from NT to linux with passwords....if that is
impossible, I also have all

LDAP Replication
>From Google searches, it seems that using SAMBA 2.2.7 + Open LDAP on Linux
patched for POSIX ACL support delivers a functional PDC/BDC pair, and that
directory replication can take place automatically once set up.
Could someone please confirm that this actually works?
The background to this issue is that we are moving a large number of NT4
file servers to a LINUX platform, but need to keep

libsmbclient
Hello all
I recently recompiled samba 2.2.5 with LDAP, SSL and libsmbclient as
additional configure options. I used the base 2.2.5-2mdk source package
(to the uninitiated, it's a Mandrake package).
LDAP works fine (as it had before), haven't really tested SSL, but
here's the kicker: I can't find libsmbclient anywhere - although I'm not
really sure what I'm looking for

sort-of fix for net rpc vampire account creation
This patch allows net rpc vampire to create accounts in the same way
that smbpasswd does, i.e. it will attempt to use the appropriate
account creation function for the backend in use. From reading the
comments on the top of the local_password_change function, either I
shouldn't be going this route or local_password_change is due for some
sort of change in status. The only major caveat I've

snatching calls
Hi,
Our current PBX (Panasonic) has a setting that enables users to "snatch"
calls ringing at other extensions.
I'm not sure snatching is a correct term for this so let me elaborate.
Let's say you sit in a room with five other people. Each one has it's
own extension. One person goes out. As soon as he leaves the room his
phone starts ringing.

Sync NT to Linux pwdump/nt-groups
Hi,
Is there a way in which i can run pwdump on Linux (without dosemu or
wine).
I have a cron
job on NT which runs rdist /S to generate the Sam backup in the Repair
folder. I Then copy this file to Linux. I need to run pwdump now and
get the userid's. I also need to extract the group information.
I dont think pwdump extracts that. Is there some way i can get this
info too.

Samba and Windows 2000 Password Authentication
Is there a way to configure Samba so that all password authentication is
done through the Windows domain controllers?
As I understand it, the variable "encrypt passwords" must be set to yes if
"security" is set to "domain". This causes Samba to reference the smbpasswd
file, so if the W2K user's password on the domain controller is not the same
as that in the

Virus
Someone (who is on my email address list) said I sent an email with an
attachment saying something about "Here is a game, I hope you should like
it."
If you receive any emails from me with an attachment be sure not to open it.
It's a virus of some sort.

smbfs + large UID's
[ I'm not on this list, so please include me on the replies! ]
Hi,
I've discovered (at least for me and some colleagues;-) the following
problem on Linux@x86 (2.4.*):
When we try to mount FS's via smbfs with the option uid=<my_uid> this
uid can only be 16bits wide:-( But we have uid's larger than 65536
which than end up beeing interpreted as %2^16 --> not allowing

File size limit = 2G?
Hello All,
I'm running Samba 2.2.7a on RedHat 8.0. Connecting to a Windows 2000
200GB share works OK, except for files > 2 GBytes.
The linux box can see the large Windows files, but does not see their
correct sizes -- it reports an absurdly big size when using ls -l. Files
less
that 2GB show up correctly. Trying to create a 3G file on the Windows box
from the linux box, using:

Authoring a HOWTO
I am in the process of authoring a Samba-LDAP-PDC HOWTO for Mandrake
users that will allow cross platform ( Linux / M$ ) network user
authentication. Lastnight I ran
rpm --rebuild --with ldap samba-2.2.7a-2mdk.src.rpm
and it produced a list of packages that I needed to install in order to
compile this version of samba. I did so but I neglected to write down
the list. I did the install of

Samba PDC+LDAP on FreeBSD
Hello,
I am trying to use Samba (2.2.7a)+ LDAP (2.0.25) as PDC on FreeBSD 4.7.
But it turned out that LDAP is not easy-going!!!
Without LDAP, things seems fine. I can join the Win2000 machine accounts
and the shares are all right. However, when configurating samba with ldap
support, then smbpasswd couldn't work anymore. I can only use
# smbpasswd -w secretpassword
to add the

pwdump on german NT
Hi,
I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german
version of NT4SP3.
I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group
'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is
hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional
parameter?
Unfortunately, I have no access to a C-Compiler on an NT-station, so
