Beginner feeling a little better now
Hi Samba Mailing list
Many thanks for the help as I had problems with my first Linux session and
couldn't get the Linux box on to the Windows network.
I seem to have managed to get things working by adding "netbios name =
webserver" to the config file. Then creating and adding a password to a
user account using "smbpasswd -a NEWUSER"
The original config (delivered with

Beginner with beginner's problem
Dear all,
I am including a part of the text from smb.log. I have followed the
instructions in "Using Samba" but to no avail. I have checked through the
troubleshooting chapter which directed me to the logs initially, but has
nothing specific to say about bad news contained therein. The output of the
log makes it clear that the problem is related to the smp_passwd file but I
am not

plot axis appearance problem
Hello,
When I plot any data with simple plot command in
R, for example :-
plot(time,co2,ylim=c(350,380),xlim=c(1993,2003),xlab=NA,ylab=NA,type="p",col=5)
Then the first value of x-axis(350) and
y-axis(1993) never starts from origin, always they
sifted from the origin. Is there any command that
I can correct this in the ploted figure and both
the axis values start from origin.

Dovecot 1.2.x passwd and shadow auth w/ PAM
I'm trying to get authentication to work without PAM and just use the
standard shadow and passwd files.
auth default {
userdb passwd {
}
passdb shadow {
}
}
This seems to be valid code to use /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow.
My linux distro is using Salted MD5. Though Dovecot keeps telling me
that authentication failed. It doesn't give me any error messages
regarding the config.

Experimental info editor for winamp
Hello everyone,
I just want to let everyone know that I have been working on something new
for the winamp plugin. Over the past few days I've been putting together a
plugin with a comment/info editor. I now have something that is worth
showing off. I have a working winamp plugin for Ogg/Vorbis that uses Warren
Spits' VCE program to edit and add comments in .ogg files. This also works

smbd won't start - new installation
Hi all,
I installed SuSe 9.1 with Samba 3.0.4-suse. I can not get the smbd to
start from swat, but nmbd is running, When I start smdb and nmbd with
the SWAT restat then ps -A shows that the processes are there and it
seems to run, but not according to the 'status' of swat. Copying files
from samba and printing with the shared printers work though. The
printers show "access denied, no

Troubles for an non-IT beginner

I am absolutely new, means from non-IT sector but have attraction (developed
recently) towards linux and have chosen the centos distro for the
installation as an OS in my home PC for personal use. I went to the page:

But don't understand amongst the variety of options there. I also don't know

Large number of prefixes in a route to a trunk
We're beginning to test MultiTech's CallFinder CDMA Units, one for Sprint
PCS and one for Alltel. They sell both. Our intent is to use them as a
backup line for our main office (which has a PRI) and a backup/911 line for
our remote offices which are all connected via * over a VPN with no local
trunks at any of them.
In the interest of maximizing use of the lines, I'm putting

Beginner's question about plotting variables in a time series object with the date on the x axis
Dear R helpers,
I am a beginner at R so please be gentle :)
I have already read manuals and FAQs, with no help.
I have a monthly time series data on public debt with 40 variables, it starts on January 1994 and ends on June 2011.
I am loading the data into R using read.csv and the data looks ok when I do edit(dados):
> dados<-read.csv("dadosR3.csv", header=T)

beginner's loop issue
Dear All,
I hope you don't mind helping me with this small issue. I haven't been using
R in years and I'm trying to fill in a matrix
with the output of a function (I'm probably using the Matlab logic here and
it's not working).
Here is my code:
for (i in 1:length(input)){
out[i,1:3] <- MyFunction(input[i,1],input[i,2], input[i,3])

beginner's question: group of regressors by name vector?
dear r-experts: there is probably a very easy way to do it, but it eludes
me right now. I have a large data frame with, say, 26 columns named "a"
through "z". I would like to define "sets of regressors" from this data
frame. something like
myregressors=c("b", "j", "x")
lm( l ~ myregressors, data=... )
is the best way to create new
