Building files from snippets
Hi there, I''m facing a problem that I think it''s common enough to be solved directly by puppet or at least have a best practice recommended: building a config file from snippets. I''m thinking for example about a dns zone and hosts inside that zone, ldap server and ldap databases, samba server and samba shares, a firewall config and firewall rules,... The first part of

some win machines see samba, some not.
Hello, I have this big problem which bothers me for past week(s). I have setup a simple samba network on win95 only net and it worked fine. This time I try to setup a samba on a network having win98 WinNT 4.0 sp4 and WinNT4.0 WS SP 5. I believe all machines are on the same local net. I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as samba 2.0.7. I can use 'smbclient'

how to see samba servers in win 7 network
Hi, Have a few samba servers in a small network. The only way any windows client can see shares is to use \\servername From the samba pdc, running smbclient -L pdc-server -N shows list of servers. So its not an issue of the samba server being able to resolve other member servers. Opening Network only shows the local computer (itself). I have searched around and find any fix for this.

Not able to see files on Win XP (service pack 2)
Hello friends, I'm a newbie on this list and this is my first message here. I'm not new to Samba. I've been using the standard stuff that comes with Fedora and RH distros. I mostly do configurations through the GUI and haven't really edited the smb.confmanually, till now that is ! During the course of my work, I was recently faced with the need to integrate Samba into our working

Can only see 1 SMB Server
I'm trying to run 2 SMB servers on my intranet (which also has a Win98 client). Both are accessable if I explicitly link to them. (ie: "NET USE" commands work just fine), but neither apear on a browse list if both of them are running. If only 1 is running, it appears just fine. I've mucked around with the "domain master" & "local master" parameters,

Another try: apps can't see data files until use of Win. Expl.
[I posted this problem a couple of weeks ago and got no responses. So I'm trying again] I have a couple of applications on a WinXP/SP2 system that use data files on a Samba (v2.2.12, on Linux) shared drive. Immediately after booting the WinXP system these data files cannot be seen, yet become visible when the share is browsed with Windows Explorer. These applications are started

kernel panic
Yesterday I had a kernel panic on a FreeBSD 4.7 system. Looking at the core dump, it was caused by a corrupted uidinfo pointer referenced by a tcp pcb. I searched through the archives and found an identical stack trace in this message from 2000: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=322837+0+archive/2000/freebsd-s table/20000625.freebsd-stable This was apparently fixed by a patch

How to hook WIN-NT client and WIN-95 client to Samba on Solaris2.5.1 ?
Hello Sorry for the newbie question.. I am new to Windows environment. I have setup a Samba -Version 1.9.18p10 on a Solaris 2.5.1 m/c. I want to hook WIN _NT and 95 /98 clients to it. The Win clients are on the same network and are also hooked to other Netware servers. I am not sure how this is done. I have set up entries for the Samba server in the 'lmhosts' file. The

Win 95/98/Me problem.
Hi, As I was unable to find solution anywhere else, I write here: I have a problem sharing win 95/98/Me resources with samba (2.2.7a) as a PDC. Windows can't get userlist from PDC (it seems, that windows times out). Win 2k and XP don't have that problem. Is it just a configuration problem, or is it a general problem with samba?? How can I add a user to share's access list???

"Network Error" under Win/95...?
Hello! I have been using Samba since last year and never had a problem which required to contact the Mailing Lists, but... now I think I have one that is worth it :( I am renumbering my internal IP network. I have been using 192.9.200 addresses (God knows why I chose that number), but now we are going to get wired to the Internet and I am changing all hosts to 192.168.x addresses. My Samba

Access Win-95 Network Neighborhood via Linux PPP Server
I don't know if this is Samba related, but I figured those monitoring these lists were the experts at Win-95 networking and Linux/UNIX TCP/IP. I have a RedHat 5.0 i386 machine acting as a PPP server for Win-95 dialin users. The only Win-95 service running is TCP/IP (no IPX, no NETBEUI), so users can POP their mail, telnet to machines on the LAN, etc. The next hurdle is to allow Network
