Samba from Sunfreeware and nss_winbind.so
Sunfreeware.com has compiled packages of Samba 3.4.2 with kerberos and
ldap support included (if you also install the ldap and kerberos
packages from sunfreeware.) However it does not include the
nss_winbind.so.* or libnss_winbind.so.* files.
Solaris does include nss_winbind.so already (since it is included with
Samba 3.0.x) or I could compile it from the 3.4.x source code. But
then I

Samba 3.0.2a problems on Solaris 8
Tried to upgrade our Samba 2.2.8a domain controller (Solaris 8) to Samba
3.0.2a. Compiled using gcc 3.3.2, linked to libiconv-1.8, popt-1.7 and
cups-1.1.20.
I shut down the Samba 2.2.8a. Removed everything in var/locks. Did a
"make install" to install 3.0.2a, then restarted Samba. My smb.conf is
basically the same as 2.2.8a with "domain admin group" removed.
When I stared

Fwd: RE: Problems 'make'ing on Solaris 9/10
On Solaris 10 (x86), trying to compile samba 3.5.2
I have downloaded GCC 3.4.x., make, binutils (ld etc) and sed from
Sunfreeware.
GCC (gcc -v) has /usr/ccs/bin/ld hardcoded so the only way around it was
to symlink to the gnu one.
# mv /usr/ccs/bin/ld /usr/ccs/bin/ld.1
# ln -s /usr/local/bin/ld /usr/ccs/bin/ld
# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/talloc-2.0.1

Shared libraries not found.
Hi. I am trying to build samba 3.0.14a on an old
redhat 8 box. I'm having a problem in which shared
libraries are not found in the smbd, nmbd and other
binaries that are produced. The server is running
openldap and MIT kerberos with their libraries in
/usr/local/lib and include files in
/usr/local/include. Openssl is installed in
/usr/local/ssl. The resulting binaries look like:

3.2.11 not compiling on solaris 9 (libtalloc.so.1 error)
I am consistently getting "libtalloc.so.1: No such file or directory" when attempting to 'make' any version of samba.
I've tried all of the suggestions from the list archives on this subject.
Using Solaris 9 sparc.
Current versions are:
        gcc 3.4.6 (sunfreeware pkg)
samba-3.2.11 (and any other version of samba I try)
Admittedly - compiling from source is not

Samba 64 bit compilation
Which platform?
If on Solaris 10 sparc, GCC (either from Sun or sunfreeware.com) should
be 64-bit by default.
GCC from Sunfreeware for Solaris 10 x86 will compile 32-bit by default.
For Solaris, you are better off using Sun Studio and Dmake. Actually,
you are better off just using the compiled version from Oracle/Sun.

Building Samba 3.5.9 on Solaris 10
I wanted to build samba with CUPS and LDAP support, and put it into a
location from where it can be automounted by other systems. There were a
few gotchas I solved the hard way, to save anyone else's time, this is
what I did.
C compiler I used is Sun's Studio.
Solaris sed behaves differently to Sunfreeware sed

CentOS Install From Scratch on XFS File System
I'm thinking about switching to CentOS 4.4 x86_64 from another RH based
version. However, I need to install it from scratch and I need EVERYTHING
(including /boot & /) on XFS file systems. Does the default installer allow
this? If not, how difficult would it be to make the necessary changes. I've
done a lot of Google searching and searching of the CentOS site, but haven't

unable to load shared library '/usr/local/lib/R/modules//R_X11.so'
Hi,
I downloaded a binary version of R for my Solaris 10 box (from http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistsparc10.html#R), and everything looked fine during the installation. However, I got a "X11 module cannot be loaded" error when I attempted to save a graph to be a png file. Does it look like a problem of the Solaris box or a problem of the installation (missing library file)?
