save.image() issue resolved - I hope
I've been combing through logs I keep of all my activities. I've found a possible correlation between the save.image() problem I'm having and one particular event. My system has a rewriteable DVD drive. I keep a 4.7 GB DVD/RW disk in the E: drive and have a system scheduler synchronize the contents of the g: drive with the e: drive every Friday night. Interestingly, both times

Using Ogg for non broadcast http streaming from a web site
Hi, I was very impressed with the progress that V1 made to 32kbps mono quality for streaming to modem clients, so I've decided to ditch my current dual use of WMA V8 and MP3Pro on my web site in favor of Ogg and open standards. I want to make it as painless as possible for people to hear the Ogg audio samples on my site, after bit of experimenting using .m3u redirector files and Winamp as

PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she would always get a sharing violation. After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

Codecs and pauses
Hi all My * implementation is working brilliantly with only one small fault left to kill. I'm using IAXTalk from Telappliant for my incoming/outgoing calls to the pstn network; if I set my codec to GSM everything works great - no pauses but quality is a bit poor. If it set the codec to alaw (I think I'm using the correct one - I'm in the UK) I get intermittent pauses on the call.

encoding very slow (pauses while encoding)
Hello, I use the flac-113.bat batch file provided by synthetic_soul to convert files from older flac version and have found that it works great with one exception. I have thousands of flac files and I drag the highest level directory to the script which starts the recursive process and everything looks great at first (encoding window shows constant progress). But if I come back a few hours

rsync pauses
rsync pauses during transfers. That is, while I'm watching the verbose output, it will run through lots of files and then pause at an arbitrary point and do nothing for around 3-15 minutes and then it will pick up again. I'm using both -v and --stats. Why would this be? Is it scanning the directory? Both source and destination have rsync 3.0.8 and FreeBSD 8 -------------- next part

Brief pauses during calls
Hi, I'm experiencing brief pauses during my calls: 0.5-1.0 sec of silence if call continues for more than a few minutes. I'm sure that problem is in the phone (a cheap ATCOM AT-320 with latest SIP firmware) but I'd like to diagnose better. During a little test, it seems that there is no problem with IAX2 firmware (but there are others... I'm not able to transfer and pickup

Install pauses at "Determining hostname and domain"
For some reason, CentOS 4.1 waits approximately 3-5 min at the "Determining host name and domain" during kickstart. RedHat 7.1, RedHat 9.0, RedHat Enterprise 3.0, and even CentOS 4.0 do not have this problem using the same kickstart server (my kickstart server is configured to kick all of them). Does anyone know why CentOS 4.1 is particularly slow at this stage of kickstart? Thanks

Windows 7 on a centos kvm host pauses after the installation reboot.
I am using Centos 6.5 as a kvm hypervisor with local ssd disks in raid and with glusterfs based storage for couple disk images. I have tried to install Windows 7 from ISO and it seems to pass the first stage of the installation which installs the basic files and also the first reboot. After that the installation is almost finished and the desktop should be up and running after a reboot but

Xen Newbie: Full Virtualization Kernel Panics / Pauses
Howdy! I''m a newbie to Xen and SUSE. I''m running OpenSUSE 10.3 on an Intel Centrino Duo with virtualization enabled in the BIOS. When I use vm-install to install an image, select "other operating system" and full virtualization and attempt to run an install with an ISO of OpenBSD or Debian Gutsy Gibbon, I''m getting a kernel panic (with OpenBSD) and a hang

rgl: insert pauses in animation sequence / movie formats other than gif?
Two questions related to creating animated movies with rgl: 1. I've created an rgl scene with 5 different views I want to display in a movie, but I'd like to insert pauses (say, 5 seconds) at each view. How can I do this? I first created 5 userMatrix's, then play3d( par3dinterp( userMatrix=list(M1, M2, M3, M4, M5)), ,duration=2*60/5) ) then tried simply repeating each twice,

XP clients & inexplicable pauses
Hi folks, I recently upgraded two client/server pairs to WinXP and Samba 2.2.6 (on Linux). Browsing mounted shares causes hangs when right-clicking or double-clicking/ launching files -- about 15 seconds. During this, precious little network activity is occuring. Something is hanging, locking, sleeping. Appreciate any advice. Hope it's a simple fix. If not, I'd appreciate advice on

>> If necessary, use ethereal next time and store the >I'll try that when I get some more time and post the >results here, but I doubt we'll find anything fixable >(yep, I'm the pessimistic kind). That's the wrong attitude. It's just a couple of boxes radioing each other over wires. It must be amenable to common sense reasoning with a pinch of know-how.

rsync takes long pauses in xfer ?
Hey folks, I did some googling on this but did not come up with much. I'm using rsnapshot which uses rsync, and I notice some pretty long pauses in the xfers as you can see on this graph from "munin". THe machine in question right at the moment is doing nothing but rsyncing ( rsnapshoting ) some 12T of NAS storage to local disk, so there is nothing else going on at all.
