SAMBA, NIS and NFS
Hi All
Some background first
I have been asked to set up an environment involving three machines
1. A windows 2000 client
2. A Solaris 8 E450 / NIS client
3. An SGI IRIX fileserver/ NIS server holding user home directories
The E450 NFS mounts the SGI and users have their home directories on
the SGI. When users want to test their application software they ssh

"nis homedir" issue on samba- 3.6.9-151.el6 (CentOS 6.4 64bit)
maybe there is a bug regarding the use of nis to mount the user's home
directory at the login or my misconfiguration.
After the CentOS 6.4 (64bit) installation I checked for the latest samba
version on the official repository using yum: the latest version (that was
already installed) is samba- 3.6.9-151.el6.

roaming profile
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have win2k pro SP2 client trying to save/retrieve roaming profile from
samba 2.2.3a PDC. I followed the SP2 suggestion by throwing "nt acl
support = no" to the profiles share, it didn't help. I tried to look
for some other solutions on the newsgroup, no luck so far.
Here is the scnario:

samba PDC with NIS, or other solution?
We have a network with Windows NT/2000, SGI's, Linux, Macintosh, AIX. Our
user account/passwords for all our machines is handled by NIS on an AIX
machine.
Our unix machines autheticate through NIS. Our windows machines
authenticate by loging on to an NT server acting as the PDC, and that PDC
has a service installed on it called "WinDD NIS" (made by Tektronix I
think) which contacts

multiple domain contr. not allowed?
Hi,
Using samba 1.9.17alpha5 on all servers, I'd like to configure one of my
servers to be a failover domain controller in case my usual domain
controller dies. Some verbage in BROWSE.TXT suggests that this is doable:
{
It is possible to configure two samba servers to attempt to become
the domain master browser for a domain. The first server that comes
up will be the domain master browser.

netlogon problems
Hi @ all,
I have two samba-servers running perfectly!
Now I configured a third machine which provides some backups. Since I brought
it up in the network the windows client won't execute the netlogon-scripts...
When I turn off samba-services on the backup-machine it works again.
Did I miss something??? Maybe you can open my eyes...
Best regards
Sascha

[Fwd: samba 30alpha21 + NT4/2K WS-s]
Hi,
I have some strange problems with 3.0a21 PDC (samba and nss use both
ldap) and I can't find any good help with google...
One strange thing is that logon script does'nt work anymore, it worked
at one point and now doesnt (I quite play around here and I dont know in
which point of changing smb.conf it stopped to work).
[netlogon] share is like that:

wins support = yes time server = yes
When I set:
wins support = yes
time server = yes
my wins service stops working and no computers show up in the network
neighborhood..as soon as I change time server = no, they start to
re-populate.
I have looked around and havent found a definitive answer (apologies if I
overlooked it)...
but if someone could tell me if this is a documented issue, or just me that
woudl be great
Thanks

I am runnning Samba 2.2.3a which act as a NT workstation

When I tried to connect to Samba, \\Bigred\home is not
accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource.
Any ideas?

win2003 member netlogon.
Hello !
I have joined my samba 3.0.32 samba server to a windows 2003 domain =
controller.
All works well and all users are mapped etc etc.
Now is the server situated on a remote location.
My question is can it handle domain logons for the remote location or =
can this only be done by the 2003 server.
the reason is that the connection between both locations is sometimes =
out of order.

Profiles -- default user ntuser.dat not being used at first logon
I'm trying to set up for my small school lab: Samba as PDC, 11
workstations running XP Pro, roaming profiles with folder redirection.
(I finally got the workstations to join the domain by adding them by
hand--so I assume something is wrong with my add machine script, but
I'll address that issue later, since I have only the 11 XP boxes to deal
with.)
Now I'm working on getting the
