netlogon sometimes works (corrected with smb.conf attached)
I tried hardcoding it into the network card's settings, ensured the settings were there (ipconfig/all) and it did work on the first occasion. Subsequent logins, fail to make it run the netlogon script I've tried turning debug up but the output doesn't make much sense, had it mentioned "attempting netlogon share, failed due to..." then I'd at least be in a position to

netlogon script generation
Can anyone point me to a doc or a script that shows how to generate netlogon script on the fly and supports users having multiple groups? I tried the Perl script referenced at <http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/AdvancedNetworkManagement.html> but I believe it only supports the user being a member of one group. -- Andrew Gaffney

preexec and netlogon scripts
I would like to know whether under battle conditions (lots of users trying to log in simultaneously at the start of a lesson) I can rely on a client's preexec script completing its output operations before the client gets its login batch file. I am a school network mamager with about 1000 teenage boy users of a new (to all of us) Linux-Samba server. (SuSE6.4 and Samba 2.0.10) I have pre- and

running a script when a user logs on (NOT netlogon!)
i want the server (which is running samba and is configured as PDC) to execute a simple shell script when a specific (or any?) user logs on with his nt machine. is this possible? to clear the things, i do NOT mean a batch file that is executed on the client, it has to be executed on the server! thanks, woerns

netlogon.bat issues
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have samba configured so that users have their own netlogon.bat file (e.g. %U.bat) and each user has a .bat with their username in the netlogon share. So far I have been unable to get any of the shares that I have defined in the batch file to be mounted when a user logs in. Here is a snapshot of both the netlogon section of my smb.conf file and

w2ksrv, and a samba based netlogon?
Is it possible to have a windows 2000 server in AD mode, with a samba server as a domain member, and have the roaming profiles and netlogon stuff all happen on the samba server? So: W2ksrv as ADC. Samba box is joined to AD on the w2ksrv box. We then add a user to the w2ksrv box, and set up the profile to load from \\sambaserver\homes\profile\ and to run the logon script from

degrading gracefully - how to tell if JS is enabled?
Is there a RoR best practice wrt determing in a visitor''s browser has JS disabled? Is there even a way to find out? I''ve got a couple of pages in my app that are not going to degrade gracefully at all. I really need to point a visitor who has JS disabled down a seperate path. Any ideas? win2003 member netlogon.
Hello ! I have joined my samba 3.0.32 samba server to a windows 2003 domain = controller. All works well and all users are mapped etc etc. Now is the server situated on a remote location. My question is can it handle domain logons for the remote location or = can this only be done by the 2003 server. the reason is that the connection between both locations is sometimes = out of order. =20

universal netlogon script
Hi Guys, Advise, I have 200 users, they all have access to 20 shares in different combinations. They all have their own netlogon scripts... its a management nightmare, is there a way to create a universal netlogon script that I can include all the shares to mount and it will silently fail on the ones it cant? Perhaps there is a smarter way to implement this idea, lynching is welcome, so is

Auto Create Home - shadow_copy2 and root preexec
Hi, I make use of shadow_copy2 and root preexec. The vfs root preexec is responsible to auto create home directories which initially don't exist. The script behind it is well tested and works perfectly. Unfortunaltely shadow_copy2 seems to be called before root preexec and fails due to the missing ZFS home share which causes the session to fail completely before root preexec even has a

Odd preexec/root preexec behavior
Running Samba 2.2.2, having troubles with preexec when it involves the path parameter: Log on to the samba server as kris, user "users". %U expands to kris, %G expands to users. [profile] path = /data/profile/%U preexec = /bin/mkdir -m 700 /data/profile/%U writable = yes create mode = 0600 directory mode = 0700 This fails to work, Samba reports that it could not

Preexec and smb.conf
Hi Steve, And thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it does not solve my problem. What I?m trying to do is to create two dirs using preexec in the same service. It works well as long as I?m only creating one directory, what I can?t figure out is how to create the second directory withing the same service. Eg. How would I continue after the last "fi" in the script to check for the second

preexec and msdfs proxy
One more time: root preexec does: run a command or script if the user hit the share. Now with msdfs proxy it need to be run on the linked host that carries the share. So you are better to set root preexec on the share of the linked host. I think there is no other way. Server1 [sharepointtoserver2] msdfs root=yes msdfs proxy =\server2\shareonserver2 Server2 [shareonserver2] Root

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Hi, I am trying to automatically create nested zfs data sets as home directories. I have a script that works fine if I execute it manually as root (auth via public key). It also creates a short log file in the same dir. However, this section in my smb.conf (on the DC) doesn't seem to execute (no data set created, no log file) on user logon (on a member server): [homes] comment =

Netlogon no longer works in 2.2.6 with W2k client
Hi, We've got a fairly simple samba setup (no ldap/winbind etc) and until recently everything worked fine (using samba-2.2.5). But after switching to samba-2.2.6 w2k-clients fail to run the netlogon-scripts. When i look at the client it says: logonserver=\\<workstationname> BTW. The output of "nmblookup -S CPB" (to me) seems to say that CPB is the logonserver. querying CPB

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
The next interesting question for me is: If I put '\\server\%username%' into ADUC Windows part (or \\server\username explicitly, for that matter), Samba on 'Ok/Apply' registers the attempt to access a non-existing share and applies the [homes] section (executes 'root preexec'). I tested that. However, the user doing this is the domain admin. So Samba would look that

preexec and msdfs proxy
Hi, I was wondering if someone had any thoughts as to why "preexec" doesn't fire when "msdfs proxy" is used?
