creating unicode_map.437 and unicode_map.ISO8859-1?
Hello,
I am running HP-UX 11 with Samba 2.2.5 binaries for HPUX and I keep getting
the error that Samba can't
find the unicode_map.xxx file. Well, I notice that all I have in
/usr/local/samba/lib/codepages
is codepage type files, not unicode. Why do the binaries not include a
compiled make_unicodemap?
I did download the source and found the .c file for the command. When I try

Samba client issues
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to samba. I am trying to mount a Windows 2000 share directory on my linux box using smbmount. I am able to do so successfully. But I do see some errors pop up when I run the command. My mount seems to be stable and it is mounted as rw.
# smbmount "//EngineerWKS85/My Drivers" /mnt/samba -o username=MyUsername,password=MyPassword,workgroup=MyWorkgroup

can't create user entries in smbpasswd
Hi all,
after installing samba 2.2.5 (on Solaris8 running NIS+) it is not
possible to create user entries in smbpasswd.
I generated the smbpasswd file by
# cat /dev/null | /samba/samba-2.2.5/source/script/mksmbpasswd.sh >
/usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd
-----
then tried to create user entry "dummy" in smbpasswd by

Multiple Instancies of Samba on a single System
Hi out there,
i intend to run multiple Instancies of Samba
on a single, multi-homed, server, with each instance bound
to a specific (logical) interface.
If this works, it would be fine to me.
Mainly for administrative Reasons. (You won't believe,
but from time to time it becomes necessary to restart
some services, but restarting the entire server is a
real mess)
Well here my

Winbind & Samba 2.2.7a on FreeBSD
Hello all,
I've got a weird problem with a fresh install of Samba
from the FreeBSD ports collection (btw. the BSD-box is
also a fresh 4.7 Stable install).
Configured Samba 2.2.7a
- without cups
- with winbind
- with winbind-auth
- with audit
so far, the installation seemed to work fine...
Then I copied the libnss_winbind.so to /usr/lib
and softlinked it to /usr/local/lib as well as
to the

Hope someone can help here:
I have upgraded from Samba 2.0.7 to Samba 2.2.0 without changing anything
in the config files, and everything goes well. Now I am looking at what can
and what must be changed for this new version. Currently there are three
things in the SmbClient that I am wondering about:
- SmbClient constantly complains about a missing codepage (850). After
looking at the doc, I

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

Help: can't get winbindd working ?
Could anyone give me some hint on how to get winbindd working ?
I have added the following to smb.conf , called smbpasswd to join the
domain
and got security=domain working.
security = domain
encrypt passwords = yes
workgroup = MYDOMAIN
password server = x.x.x.x
But when I try to use winbindd, even if I followed the man page
instruction and did the following:

samba appliance issues
Hi All!
I have been a happy and contented user of samba for several years now,
when I got asked several questions I didn't know the answer to. The
questions were:
1) Is there a way to create a network appliance type unix box, where
usernames and groupnames are pulled from an existing NT4 or W2K domain?
(without maintaining a local /etc/passwd file) What is the best way to
do this?

pam_winbind.so - How do I create it?
Hello,
I'm installing 2.2.7a, or attempting to at any rate. I've compiled it
from source using the following instructions:
http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html
Anyways, I've got it set up so that it works. Now I'm trying to get to
a point where I can interface it like I have with a different Linux box
that is working without any problems.
When I did the

smpasswd and ldap ...
Another question ...
When using the LDAP SAM, should smpasswd change the POSIX
password?
The reason I ask, is because when I do a change or add with
smbpasswd, I see that the POSIX password does not change,
but I throught that it should ... is there something wrong
with my installation ... another reason I ask, is because I
keep having little problems when changing passwords from

Problems with WIN2K accessing Samba 3.0.1 as PDC
Hello.
I am almost at the end of my rope right now. Here is the deal. I initially
installed Redhat 7.1 with the version of Samba server is came with (2.0.7 or
something) I setup everything fine, but when it came to setting the machine
up as a PDC, I recieved an error that could be fixed by a patch.
Instead, I decide to re-install RH 7.1 without Samba, and get the latest
distro. I download 3.0.1

Samba 3.0.1pre1 winbind / getent problems
Hi,
I've got some problems with winbind and ADS Domain Membership stuff.
I've joined the domain without problems with "kinit admin@MY.DOMAIN" and
"net ads join", i can see the machine account in AD with ldapbrowser.
Klist give me three tickets, as say in the documentation, OK.
I created the idmap entry in my openldap (with samba3 schema), OK.

Samba with winbind setup but some glitches
Hello there!
After much trial and error, scouring the net and books for samba
setups/faqs/resources, etc - I seem to have Samba setup with winbind more or
less correctly - There seems to be a couple bugs though.
The goal is to have a windows workstation-like Linux box to access the NT
4.0 domain. Logging into the Linux box (physically) with domain user
accounts, accessing domain printers,

Memory leak in winbindd
I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on NetBSD. I've been having an annoying
problem with winbindd dying inexplicably. I finally found a test that
seems to (eventually) kill it:
while wbinfo -t > /dev/null; do /usr/bin/true; done
The problem is a memory leak in winbindd. Actually, wbinfo -t will
still work, but wbinfo -u doesn't (response.extra_data is always null).
Is this a known
