Problems with Windows 2003 connecting a Samba server
Hi list,
I am encountering a problem in connecting a Windows 2003 to a Samba
3.0.21b server. The Samba server is configured to have a security =
share option, so that no password is needed. I can connect to the
server by typing "net use z: \\192.168.51.1\data", and it is
successful. However, if I try to do "dir z:", no file found! Same
behaviour are found in Windows

smb service response times + OpenVPN
Recently I had the chance to look at smb service response times over OpenVPN
using Wireshark/TShark. Here are 2 samples. In both samples a Win XP Pro
machine is connecting to a server running samba-3.3.7 and openvpn-2.0.6_9 on
FreeBSD 7.2-STABLE.

samba and OS X 10.2.6 problems
I've got a 10.2.6 box that when it copies large files (5-8GB) it will
eventually die. This last time I got the end of the transmission with
ethereal from the samba server. I did some searching for the "Unknown
DOS error (9e)" but couldn't find anything helpful Right after the
error is logged the smb share is dumped off the desktop of the Mac, but
samba still shows it

Problem with OpenAndX
Hi,
I am enhancing the Samba Server on our product (VxWorks on the box) to
support Long Name. So I started implementing the dialect "LM1.2X002" (first
dialect that supports Long Name, the current dialect that we support are PC
Network Program). I have implemented the Negotiation, Tree Connect AndX,
Open AndX and Transaction2 (FIND_FIRST2) commands etc.
I am able to open the shared

smbtorture : Unknown operation mkdir
Hi,
I got problem while using smbtorture with the NBENCH test. The error
happens on the "Mkdir" operation.
I'm using the file "client.txt" from dbench-3.04. There are "Mkdir"
operations, but in the file "torture.c", this operation is not handled.
Few other operations are not handled. I did compare operations from
run_netbench and those that are present

SMBD not authenticating against Active Directory
Hi,
Iam trying to setup Samba version 3.2.3 on Redhat (RHEL5) server to use
Active Directory for authentication. I followed the instructions from
article in following website:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/magazine/dd228986.aspx
Setup Winbind + Samba + Kerberos and it seems to work fine. I can see the
users in Active Directory through winbind as well as authenticate users

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list!
I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I
hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I
am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with
Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current)
against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I
can repeatedly test the

msdfs root problems even after a reboot?
We upgraded from Samba 3.0.24 to 3.0.25a over the weekend and rebooted
all of our clients afterwards. Since then, some of our clients are
randomly getting the following error:
"Configuration information could not be read from the domain
controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has
been denied."
Unmapping and mapping the network drive fixes the problem, but one

Permission problems after an NT4 -> Samba LDAP PDC migration
Hello,
I replaced an NT4 server by a Samba 3.0.14a ldap server following the
instructions in 'Samba by example'.
Everything works fine except for some files on a W2003 SP2 server:
- when the W2003 server uses the Linux PDC, from a WinXP client, some files are
not writable, and ACLs can be listed but not changed.
- when the NT4 server is up, the same files on the W2003 server can be

problems with DFS
Hi,
We have been a samba shop since way back and have used DFS quit a lot the
last years.
When we went with security ads instead of domain our dfs died.
We have tried 3.028(sun) in solaris wich we are leaving and 3.2.1 in linux,
our migration target.
For our 3.2.1 installation the config looks liket this and the problem
manifests itself as a empty share.

Folders with ~ (tilde) slow to save
running Version 3.6.23-14.el6_6
I'm having slow save times with folders names ~something.. ie.
/www/~bin/content.txt.
doing this via a windows share.. when I save file it has a moment
(few seconds) of hesitation.. then saves. When I do
/www/bin/content.txt. the file saves instantly.
Is there anywhere I can change a setting to fix this? or is this a
bug. I've looked in the logs

cifs samba mailing list
For two days now I've tried for two days now to get cifs working on a
redhat 9.0 2.4.20 based linux box. I followed the instructions given at
http://de.samba.org/samba/Linux_CIFS_client.html, i.e. compiling
cifs-0.6.8 and mount.cifs rev. 1.2.2.1. I successfully loaded the cifs.o
as a module and following the given examples I tried:

CIFS and DFS
hello,
maybe this is the wrong place, but according to
http://us1.samba.org/samba/Linux_CIFS_client.html
linux kernel cifs should be able to handle M$ dfs shares. I looked at the
installation and usage instructions but it doesn't work. On the mount.cifs
manpage I found no hint about a special switch to activate dfs parsing.
Can anybody put some light into this?

Poor performance getting lots of small files with WinXP/Win2k vs OS2
Hi,
We're doing some of performance tests with Linux Samba v3.
We're comparing WinXP/Win2k clients vs OS2 clients accessing a samba
server.
For one test, we're coping 10.000 small files.
Let's say, we run the command copy \\sambaserver\10000files\*.*
c:\data\10000files
With an OS2 client it takes 23 seconds to complete.
With an Windows client it takes 460 seconds to complete.

Access Denied, Roaming Profile -- no apparent reason...
Samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8 & Windows XP.
When logging on to machine 'A' one of my users gets an "Access Denied"
message for a particular cookie file -- 'statse'. When logging on to
another machine ('B'), there is no problem.
I have tried, when logged in as administrator (mapped to root on the
server), to read the cookie file on both machines. Machine 'A'

1 byte writes
After migrating a particular W2K file service to Samba 3.0.21c on SuSE
9.3 Pro (a DMS with winbindd against a W2K3 ADS), the W2K clients are
suffering performance issues (in a switched LAN).
Looking at the traffic with Ethereal (latest SVN), it looks like the
client writes the data in *1 byte* pieces likes this (c=client, s=server):
c->s NT Create AndX Request
