Profile question
Everyone, I didn't know where else to call for help. Here it goes. I trying to replace our Win2k PDC with a combination of Samba3-LDAP-PDC. But I'm not having much luck in retaining my user's local profiles, I want this PDC migration to be as simple and transparent as possible, but the new samba pdc doesn't seem to want to recognize the old profiles (same with the

Problems with migrating from local to roaming profiles
Hello everyone! I have had a lot of luck with mailing lists in the past, so I'm hoping this one works out well also. I've recently helped my company move from an NT4 PDC to a Samba 2.2.7a PDC and everything has gone smoothly until this point. We made the decision to migrate to roaming profiles so our users could move around and use whichever computer they wanted to unlike before,

please help...
i have the following problem, the outlook express & desktop settings are being overwritten every time i change the host. i was helped by Laurent HOFMANN (thanks a lot), who pointed out that the exclusion list in ntuser.ini excludes Local Settings from the files, which are being synchronized. However, I still can not figure out the way to change this list for all users. Even if i change it

Migration to Samba
I'm migrating to Samba on about 50 desktops. After I join the domain (this is on Windows 2k or XP) I get a whole new set of settings (under documents and settings). Is there a way to tell Windows to use the old directory? It matches their username on samba if that helps. Note, I'm using local profiles. Thanks, Dean

Problems with migrating profiles
Not strictly a Samba question but hopefully someone has a solution. We run samba as a pdc for an office network of 2000/XP machines, the machines is old and dying, I have installed samba 3 on a new server and given this a different domain name. I can join machines to the new domain no problem, I can create new samba users and log in with them on the machines, the problem is when I try to migrate

User Profile Migration Solved
Migration of User Profiles Goal: Old machine with NT 4.0SP6 running as a primary domain controller (PDC) is to be replaced by a new Linux server running samba 2.2.7a. The samba version I used was a precompiled rpm package from SuSE. Environment: 14 Windows 2000 Professional (SP1-SP3) Workstations with 1-2 User accounts 3 Windows NT 4.0 WS (SP6) Workstations with 1-2 User accounts All these are

Copying profiles to a new samba server
Well I had to set up Samba on a new server and everything seem to went pretty well for the most part but now when I try to log on the domain it gives me an error message saying it couldn't load the profile on the server. What I did was set up new server with pretty much the same configuration, then one evening when there was nobody here I copied all the profiles and other stuff from the old

'profiles' command with WinXP Profiles
Hi all, I have gotten the 'profiles' command to work for NT and Win2K profiles very well. In Windows XP, I am able to change the 'owner' but not the 'group' SID. It gives no errors but it just doesn't change them. A snippet of the profile in question is below: furnsrv:/data/samba/profiles/jon # profiles NTUSER.DAT |grep S-1-5 Owner SID: S-1-5-32-544 Group

Getting rid of "You haven't logged on here before"
According to the Samba docs, there's really no good way to have Windows stop asking "You haven't logged on here before. Would you like your settings saved?" or whatever nonsense it actually says. However, due to headaches getting profiles COPIED and not merged with local copies as well as privacy concerns, I'd like to blast the profiles subdirectory constantly. But that

Recover from PDC Crash
Hello: I would like to use samba as our PDC (currently we are peer to peer) where I work but have one huge misgiving. What happens if the server crashes? I was so curious about this that I used a trial samba PDC with my work computer (XP) for a few weeks and then, simulating a total HD failure, I reinstalled samba on another HD and to my horror lost my entire user profile. bookmarks, emails, my

Moterboard help Please
All, I have been terribly pleased with openbsd 3.2 I was using it as a mail/samba server with postifx on a pentium pro 200 with 1 gig of memory. Well I wanted to add a larger harddrive than what I have in it now only 6.4 gig. Well the machine would not see it and for some reason after hours and hours of trying I can't get a tekram 395UW and a 18gig scsi to be the boot drive and having failed

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future, there will be Linux clients. I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

Mandatory User Profile
Hi, first of all: my name is uli... i'm from bavaria/germany and i'm working with linux quite a long time (maybe 10 years). Now my "problem": my samba is setup with ldap-backend. my configuration with mandatory profiles is working quite good. i created a Default User - Profile in my netlogon-share (migrated from a windows-xp client). ntuser.dat has been renamed to ntuser.man.

ntuser.dat
What are the implications of locking the ntuser.dat file on the user's server profile? That is, if I make the ntuser.dat file read-only, what affects will that have on the client?

Roaming profiles and case sensitivity
Hi, Yesterday I found big problems concerning my roaming profiles. They seem to work on some computers where they are always used, on some other the did not load properly (i.e. a default profile was loaded instead). After some debugging with userenv.log I found the very strange problem: case sensitivity for ntuser.dat!: [...] IsCentralProfileReachable: Testing <F:\testuser\ntuser.dat>

[4.3.11-Ubuntu] SMBD keeps Locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini after logout
After having migrated my machines and user to Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (no domain upgrade, new provision, all accounts new defined) and old data copied over to the new machines, I have now a broader testbed and notice issues I didn't see prior to that. Having roaming profiles (defined in the user object in LDB)... Seemingly at random smbd keeps locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini for a

dear R users, I need some help for multivariate analysis. I have 2 anaesthetic treatment groups (20 patients/group) where I register heart frequency and pressure for 60 min (repeated measures every 5 minutes). I would like to perform a test to check if treatments are different in controlling freq and pressures during the anaesthesia, but i would like to have also an overall measure and not

mandatory profiles
Hello! I am running samba 3.0 on fc2 in a win2000 network. I want to use only mandatory profiles in the network, but can't get this to work properly. I have set up a "perfect user" on my local machine", and copied this profile to \\server\netlogon\Default User. I have also made this default profile mandatory by renaming ntuser.dat to ntuser.man. In smb.conf I have added:
