Linux server, Win2k client: Almost works, what am I missing?
Hello all. A couple of days back I posted a question about how I could get a Win2K client to mount a share from my linux Samba server. I was getting the familiar "account is not authorized to log in from this station" error on the Win2K box, despite a set-up that supposedly allowed guest logins *and* implemented the registry hack for clear-text passwords on the Win2k box. While I

Switching to another Samba server
I've been running Samba 2.2.2 for a while as a domain controller on my mostly Windows network. It's been working great up to this point. Anyway, I just put together a new Linux server and installed 2.2.2 on it as well. I copied the conf file and pretty much mirrored everything on the existing server, changed the paths and the "workgroup" field in the conf file to match the new

Samba 3.0.8 - Unable to login/logon from Windows 2003 or CIFS
Hi Folks, Recently (I believe since recent 3.0.x releases), I have been unable to login to a Samba instance using CIFS (Linux mount) or Windows 2003. If I change the smb.conf from: security = server to security = user I _can_ login again fine. The NT PDC always replies with NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE. It's event viewer shows that the proper username is being used, but that the password is

Windows 7 only connects if joined to the domain
I'm running 3.4.6 (was running 3.0.28a but upgraded in hopes to fix this issue). Clients running Windows 7 that are NOT joined to the AD domain (samba authenticates against it via "security = server") cannot authenticate to access the server. Clients running Windows 7 that are on the domain as well as Windows XP, Windows 2003 on and off the domain work as expected. Any help would

NEWBIE QUESTION - ERROR [BAD PASSWORD]
I have installed the icecast server on my Debian Linux 2.2. I modified the distributed icecast.conf (as far as thought was necessary), and I set up the shout.conf... Both server and shout are started from root and are set up to localhost. I could start the server, but when I started shout, it did find the server, but it was blocked with the message "BAD PASSWORD[encoder]" even if the

Samba on Tru64 UNIX Cluster
Hi list, I am planning to deploy samba 2.2.6 on a two-node cluster running Tru64 UNIX 5.1A. Each node will be running an instance of samba providing different services, but I want the locks directory to be shared between them so that if one node goes down, the other can take over its services and still have correct information about open files etc. My question: Can the tdb's handle being

Upgrade to 2.0.6 not working
Hi All, We have been running samba-1.9.18p10 beautifully for the past year or so. Finally decided to upgrade to samba-2.0.6 and am having no luck. We are using security=server such that the users are using their NT login/password to authenticate. When I test the 2.0.6 installation with smbclient, I get the "protocol negotiation failure" message. Does anyone know what this means? I

printing probs and samba update
Hi, I have still a 2.2.5 Samba PDC running and get from time to time printing problems. Sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes when trying to print even simple documents, but then most of the time printing starts immediately. I could not figure out why or when this is happening. It has nothing to do with a long printer queue or an (over)loaded server. Perhaps someone else had these problems too? I

connection problem to W2k DC
Hi, we are using Samba 2.2.5 in a somewhat larger configuration: a big NFS file server and a separate box acting as a NFS/SMB gateway. Usually there are about 200-250 connected clients. The box is a Sun Netra T1 AC200 with Solaris 8. Sometimes we get the following (loglevel 1): [2002/07/01 11:48:50, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(615) si17062 (10.2.202.88) connect to service mrd8si as user

ogg vorbis and CD burning software
Has anone started a petition or email campaign to make Ahead Software and Roxio aware of the need to be able to use their software to burn oggs? I currently use Ashampoo BurnYa! Audio CD for this, but I noticed that even if you have the box checked that tells it to burn "Disk At Once," it still puts 2-second pauses between tracks on a live CD or between tracks that connect.

Trust domain
Hi, All, I upgraded my samba to 2.2.4 recently. There is one question about trusted domain. If I set 'winbind use default domain' to yes, supposed the domain name is D1, a trusted domain D2, when I run wbinfo -u, what I should I get? I remembered I will get users like D1\UserOnD1 ..... D2\UserOnD2 ... in previous version. Thanks in advance, Juer
