NHW codec
Hello,
I would like to discuss a little about the NHW codec and its state after
nearly 5 years on the Xiph forums.
I also know that if I would like to discuss I'd better go to the great
Doom9 and Encode.ru forums but for now I find that my codec is too
experimental for these professional forums:
- the codec is only for fixed 512x512 size, just a test tool.
- there is only mid compression

NHW Project - speed measurement 2 - very high compression
Hello,
If it could be of interest, here are new speed measurement for -l13 very
high compression setting.
For x265 (HEVC), I use BPG codec, and this time I use -m 0 setting which
uses the fastest encoding setting of x265.I run the .exe 10x times and I
pick the best scores.
So here are the timings at -l13 very high compression:
Encode time: x265 (BPG -m 0): 80ms NHW: 20ms
Decode time: x265

vhost net: performance with ping benchmark
At Rusty's suggestion, I tested vhost base performance with ping.
Results below, and seem to be what you'd expect. I'm working on TSO
support, expect results shortly.

Slow disk access on Dell Latitute with ATA/ATAPI-5 T13 1321D
Hi...
I have a Dell Latitute with an ATA/ATAPI-5 T13 1321D and it would seem
that my disk access is extremely slow. I have the latest updated kernel
from RedHat 8.0 kernel 2.4.18-27.8.0. Somehow I think it is related to
the UDMA stuff (shows my level of understanding). I have run hdparm and
although I think I should at least udma level 5, I have at most udma2
listed. Is this a kernel

FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.
I sent this to freebsd-questions earlier via the newsgroup, but I just
found out today that the list-to-news gateway has been down for half a
month now. Any idea when it's going back up? Who was hosting that service
anyway?
And now for the question..
I have a test server that is being used to test a 4.4-REL to 4.8-STABLE
upgrade, and I've found the system will no longer boot unless I

[FYI] PSPacer release
Hi all,
I have released Precise Software Pacer (PSPacer) version 1.0 under the GNU
GPL license.
PSPacer achieves precise pacing (regulating bandwidth and smoothing of bursty
traffic) without any special hardware.
In the past, some software-based pacing schemes have been proposed. However,
they have been hard to implement, because they require that the operating system
maintains a high

[SAGE] FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.
Before reading below: I am considering a new install rather than an upgrade
of our servers. However, now I just want to beat this problem. :)

[Q] e2image: tools for sparse files & e2sfck support
Hi,
i have two twofold e2image related questions:
1) The man page mentions "cp (1)"'s --sparse=always option. I
wonder if there are sparse aware tools which
a) display the "real" amount of disk space occupied by a
sparse file
b) compress sparse files (other than compressing very
thightly several GiB of zeros)
2) "E2fsck, mke2fs, etc.

Old harware (intel 82845G card) stopped working after update (centos 6)
Hello. I apology in advance if I am not reporting things correctly,
but my knowledge about these things is very limited.
I have five Transtec computers, approximately born in July 2005; they
have an intel 82845G video card.
The last 'yum update' was on January 30, 2014. I did not reboot the
machines at that time. I cannot be sure about the date of the 'yum
update' preceding

[HCL] Riello IPG 600 supported by riello_usb / incorrect battery.charge and ups.temperature values
Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Riello IPG 600 UPS (
http://www.riello-ups.com/products/1-ups/39-iplug) to prevent hardware
damage to my server in case of power outages (already lost two hard drives
because of this) and I managed to successfully configure it with NUT
version 2.7.4 available for Ubuntu 17.04:

NHW Project - paid development
Hello,
As I said in my previous post, I would like now to accelerate to NHW Codec
development.I started in January 2007, more than 10 years ago, and I would
like now to see it finished after all the time I gave to it (especially the
3 first years). For now I can only give 2-3 hours in the week-end to the
codec development, and furthermore I don't have all the skills to improve
it, notably in

NHW Project - good quality improvement & encoding speed improvement
Hello,
Just a quick message to let you know that I have made good quality
improvements for very high and extreme compression of the NHW Project (-l8
to -l15 quality settings). The NHW Project starts to be really competitive
with x265 (HEVC) at these very high compression ratios.I even find the NHW
Project visually better than x265 (HEVC) for mid and high compression!
I have also improved encoding

About ping latency in SR-IOV
Hi, Greg, Eddie,
I found that in SR-IOV + HVM environment, ping latency depends on ping interval.
The NIC is Intel 82576 (1000Mbps), server uses xen-4.0.1, domain-0 is
kernel-2.6.32
and HVM is kernel-2.6.31. The server and client are connected through
a 1000Mbps switch.
The data is as following:
# ping -i 1 192.168.0.21
PING 192.168.0.21 (192.168.0.21) 56(84) bytes of data.
