RE: [Private] RH8 and Samba 3
Gordon, I did as you suggested, and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the suggestion However, this is contrary to the given docs on how to use CUPS with Samba, is it not? RE: 2.2.7a logon script will not run (Rich Forman)
Rich, Within the past 6 or 8 months, I to have upgraded my Samba to 2.2.7a. My Conf file is similar to yours, except for your script path. What I have is a global parameter of "logon script=" and then a [netlogon] share for the script path. with that setup, I'm able to map drivers, set the time, run liveupdate automatically and run "Automatic Updates" on my W2K machines.

Use client driver
Good day everyone, Just a quick question. When using Samba 2.2.7a and Cups 1.17 or 1.18, is it good or bad to use "Use client driver" as a share setting on the Printers share? I used it with LPD, but I'm not real sure it's necessary with cups. Thanks in advance Darin Bawden TeamDME! Technical Support (615) 333-1900 dbawden@teamdme.com

Samba/CUPS printing again
Hello...again...Y'all are getting sick of me, aren't ya? ;) Anyway, I am having quite the dilemna about printing. I'm using samba 2.2.7a aong with cups-1.1.5. I know this is an old version of cups, but this is a production server and I don't want to fool with it yet. Anyway, we have 2 printers: HP laser Jet 4 Plus and an Office Jet R80. each are running off a jet direct. One

samba 3 and WinXP (again)
Hello everyone, I have a redhat 9 server running with Samba 3.0. It's a bit different than the previous version, but I'm finally getting used to it. Here's my biggest issue: This is a server for approx. 15 clients, all but one running WinXP. Previously, we were running 2.2.8 w/ Win2K clients. In the past, we were able to log into the local computers, even when we didn't have a

PDC and logon script - try 2
Hi everyone, I have a question about the logon script command. I've read and read and read the man page for smb.conf. In essence, I've duplicated the settings on the PDC how-to document to create a PDC with a logon script. However, when I log in, the scrips doesn't run. The only thing I don't have enabled, like the how-to, is roaming profiles. I'll include my smb.conf for

DNS server and printing.
Good afternoon, This is my first post, so please be gentle ;) Anyway, here's my question....I've recently put together a Linux Server for our company, replacing an old Novel server. I have the box set up with Samba, as a PDC on our network. So far, just about everything is working correctly. One issue I'm coming up against, though, is printing from DOS. I have Samba

Samba printing and CUPS
Well, I have a strange one again. Using samba version 2.2.5 and cups version 1.1.15. We have 2 printers over the network, both TCP/IP-based Jetdirect printers. on is on x.x.x.32, the other on x.x.x.38. I can print to the laserjet on IP 32 all day long. However, both on Windows clients, print jobs are not even seen in the que (either windows print que or CUPS web interface). When I try to

Windows notification
Good morning everyone, Does anyone know of a way for Samba, or Linux, to send a notification to Windows users, as they log in, that there password has or is expiring in a certain number of days? I've thought about sending a network broadcast using Samba, but I have no idea how to do it automatically, based on a 60 day password life and X number of days warning before it expiring. Right now,

Printing with CUPS & Samba...
I am trying to print from both a Win98 PC via Samba and a Red Hat 8.0 workstation to an HP 4 Plus printer that is connected to a Red Hat 8.0 server. I have managed to get the Win98 PC working OK, but am having difficulty with the RH8 workstation. I set the printer up using a browser with <Server>:631, calling it HP4Plus, and I can send a test print from the browser on the RH8 box via

RH8 guest: bad fs?
I recently reinstalled RH8 as a VMware guest on a WinXP box. I used a previously proven script at level 3, containing, in one line with no inappropriate spaces: mount -t smbfs -o user,noauto,dmask=777,fmask=777,username=xx, password=yy //DELLBOX/linuxShare /mnt/linuxShare I get a failure that reports numerous possibilities including bad fs, and other other things. I suspect I omitted a

Can't see all of the directories in a share with 2.2.7a-1 & RH8...but older version/kernel can
Hi all, Hoping someone might be able to steer me in the right direction and/or help me solve my problem. We have a number of Linux servers (RH6.2 -> RH8) which connect to the same share on a Win2000 Server. We've been working kinda hard to get everything upgraded to either RH7.3 or RH8.0 since we rarely get the opportunity. 2 similar servers (one dev, one prod) access this same window

moving from RH8 to CentOS5.1
Hi all, Is there a way to 'automatically' recreate users/permissions when moving from RH8 (yes, I know...way old) to CentOS5.1 or is it just simpler to recreate the users manually? Total users on this system is < 20. Thanks in advance, -Ray

How to "recover" the printer drivers?
Samba 2.2.8a-1, RH8. ... So, I had to reinstall. Fortunately I had a back-up copy. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*. Aparently samba is working corectly: All user/machine accounts are in place winbind OK... It's just that although I've restored the /home/printers
