Winbind trouble. Wbinfo see's users, "getent passwd" doesn't
I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've been using for far too long. I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine. Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it

Winbind and Samba
Hi all, I was wondering if someone could lend a little assistance. I recently setup SAMBA/Winbind to allow users to login to a Redhat 8 box using their Windows NT Domain credentials. All is working well in that regard. The issue I am having is getting regular UNIX based users to be able to login. The following is my PAM configuration. For example, if I try to login as root, it does not work.

Problem with pam_winbind
I'm on a redhat 7.2 box, and I am trying to configure PAM to use winbind to authenticate against an NT4 PDC. I followed the instructions I found at: http://de.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND I compiled the 2.2.4 source and have tried several permutations of the setup they suggest, and have tried many solutions I've seen suggested on different

winbindd and ftp
Hello, I setup samba2.2.2 with winbind. samba is a member of domain with security=domain. Now both work well. Since there is no user in /etc/passwd, and user information gets from PDC(a win2000 server). The question is: there is no /home/xxx directory too.(I don't want to make it manually). I can configure /etc/pam.d/login with : session required /lib/security/pam_mkhomedir. so when

winbind: NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
Hi, I'm running a linux RedHat 7.2 box with samba 2.2.4. I want to use winbind for authentification. The samba server is a member server in a W2K domain. I followed the steps in the winbind help which comes with the samba distribution (http://localhost:901/swat/help/winbind.html). Joining the domain was successfull: $ smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U toto | INFO: Debug class all level = 100

CVS over SSH
Hi there I'm running a samba cvs server in a windows domain with a W2K PDC. I want to authenticate windows users through ssh. I'm able to login with a windows user to the server on the server himself but when I want to login via a windows client It doesn't work. The connection is refused. Could it be something mis configured in my ssh pam module. This is my pam ssh module PAM

Winbind issues
Several questions really (all on the stable 2.2.2 samba compiled with winbind and acls (and Brandon Stone's recycle bin), with a 2.4.14 kernel along with acls from acl.bestbits.at on a RedHat 7.2 box)... 1) Does anyone know how to stop the security event log on an NT PDC filling up with lots of ANONYMOUS accesses to the Security Account Manager eg: Object Open: Object Server: Security

winbind and bad permissions mapping from NT to Samba
I'm installed Samba 2.2.8 with the intetion of use it as file share for a NT Domain. I have also an interest to the use of extended ACL so I recompiled the kernel (2.4.20) with the acl patch and I added to my system acl, attr, e2fsprogs and fileutils packages. After all I join the samba server into the NT domain: smbpasswd -j SAMBATEST -r SAMBA-SRV -U Administrator where SAMBATEST is the

Bug on PAM_Winbind ?
Hello guys, I am using PAM (0.82) to authenticate (samba) workgroup users and it works fine (pam_smbpass). But after joining a domain and start using pam_winbind too, pwauth (2.3.10) get a segmentation fault when trying to authenticate any workgroup or domain user. What happens is that it does authenticate the user successfully, but when it calls pam_end() to release its resources, it crashes.

help with winbind/pam
Hello, I'm trying to get a debian sid box to authenticate against an NT4 domain. I've followed the instructions in the winbindd man page and I think I'm on the right track. However, I'm having problems with PAM. As the winbindd man page suggests, I edited the /etc/nsswitch.conf and added some winbindd related stuff to my smb.conf file. I also edited the /etc/pam.d/* files.

swat and pam.d
Hello, Installed the binary RPM (http://de.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/7.1/) for samba 2.2.2 on my redhat 7.1 server. I got winbind to work and my samba server is now using NT usernames and groups. I was very unsure about how modify the pam.d files. The only file I changed was the /etc/pam.d/samba file. I pulled this configuration from another mail post.

Usernames with dots
Now that I have winbind working, life is good. However, I've hit upon a real kick in the pants. As you can see from my email address, we have a convention here of usernames being firstname.lastname. So, when I go to change the owner ship of a file: $ chown chris.palmer myfile Linux thinks I mean user chris, group palmer, and says "invalid group" (there is no palmer group,
