NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major Hardware failure.) How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S' from the new Samba DC? sort-of fix for net rpc vampire account creation
This patch allows net rpc vampire to create accounts in the same way that smbpasswd does, i.e. it will attempt to use the appropriate account creation function for the backend in use. From reading the comments on the top of the local_password_change function, either I shouldn't be going this route or local_password_change is due for some sort of change in status. The only major caveat I've

rpcclient enumdrivers 3 times out on NT drivers
This is puzzling me (and hampering some work, slightly): NT4SP6 + full updates server, with some printers attached. "rpcclient -U admin%pass enumdrivers 2" server gives me a list of stuff like this: [Windows 4.0] Printer Driver Info 2: Version: [0] Driver Name: [HP LaserJet 5Si PCL 5e] Architecture: [Windows 4.0] Driver Path:

which ACL attributes are supported by Samba?
I've tried to determine this empirically, but have run foul of config issues that won't be resolved in the immediate future. Basically, I know that Samba + ACL + an acl-aware filesystem will allow me to assign unix-style permissions to arbitrary groups of people for a given file. However, Windows has additional permissions: delete, take ownership, and, um, I think possibly one or two more.

approximate net rpc vampire HOWTO, as promised
Hi Folks, as promised, here's what I did to get net rpc vampire working. There's a question at the bottom that someone might be able to answer for me. If the detail below is sane, I'll tidy it up some and submit it as a proper HOWTO. If not, please tell me where I'm being insane :) ====================================================================== Using 'net rpc

another Win2KSP3/Samba2.2.8a-PDC Problem
Hi list, I am faced by a strange problem w/ one of our 10 win2k/sp3 clients in a samba2.2.8a pdc-network. If I want to logon I get a message like this(translated from german): "Your profile has not been loaded, but you will be logged in to a local Profile. Your serverside profile has not been loaded because its security-properties are not properly." and that's it. Even if I blast my

Kareo please help
Hi, I am a new Ubuntu user and I am trying to get rid of Windows from all my computers forever! The only hurdle is my medical billing software Kareo. When I tried to run the exe file it states that it is extracting an MSI file and then shut out. I tried extracting the msi files running w/ the wine msi switch but it states that the msi file cannot run w/o the setup file. The program can be freely

Samba aka PDC and W2k problem
Hello, I have Samba 2.2.5 installed as a domain controller and there are around ten PCs(Win2k sp2 and 3) in this domain. Everything works fine and recently I tried to add two extra PCs in this domain, but Win2k PC generates an error message saying "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "hm": No mapping between account names and security IDs was

protocol question
I'm trying to understand odd behavior in my LAN. I'm running Samba 2.2.5 and trying to run it as a PDC. I have 1-2 win98 clients, 1 XPSP1 client, and 1 Win2kSP3 client. I've managed to add the XP and 2K machines to the domain successfully, but still haven't finished configuring logins to work correctly -- something about my user not having permission to write to

Still can't get my roaming profile to work
I've been browsing the archive and googling for something like 3 days now and still haven't found where the problem is. Here the situation: Samba 2.2.8a acting as a PDC Some Win2kSP3 clients The problem: When a user logon for the first time, a cache profile is created locally, when he logoff, that profile is saved on the PDC. It's working as expected. The problem arise when the

Formating @content_for_layout
Hi all, I sent a message earlier, so forgive me if you have already read this (I got some cryptic message in German about how my e-mail was not read?). Anyway, I was just wondering if there was any way to format the html that is output using <%= @content_for_layout %> I want to use something like the PHP Beautify. I guess I could write my own, but I was hoping that Rails already had

Ruby equivalent to PHP Beautify?
Hi all, I am working on a project in Rails for my senior seminar class. I am fairly new to Rails but I have done a major project, so I know a little. The one thing I cannot find however is a way to make the html code that is output look any cleaner. So, I was wondering if there was a function/library/extension that worked like PHP beautify. Thanks for your input in this matter. I am sure I will

debian squeeze gotchas using xen 4
I installed a debian squeeze desktop client today and a squeeze, with xen 4, on one of our servers. I had problems getting libvirt on the client to create virtual machines on the server. The fix was to create a symbolic link called xen to /usr/lib64/xen-4.0 on the server as libvirt was looking for files in that path. Is there anything else I should be aware of/issues regarding this setup? I

CentOS 5 gotchas
As some folks on irc have pointed out, and has been covered a bit in the beta discussions: There is no longer a 'Minimal' install option for centos5 in anaconda, however if you choose 'Customize Now' and uncheck all the selections, you will get a minimal install that only requires disk1, and weighs in at around 594MB. With kickstart it is possible to further reduce the package

Upgrade from 3.0.4 to 3.4.5 gotchas?
I'm about to install 3.4.5 over 3.0.4 on an old FreeBSD 5.2.1 server from source. The server is backed up to tape. Could I make life easier by backing up some files by hand to another directory? In theory should "make install" be all I have to do? (yes I ran configure and make) Will the old smb.conf need modified? Anything else to watch out for?
