SP6 for Windows NT terminal server AND SAMBA - 2ND try
Had no replies, so here goes again.
We recently installed the Terminal server SP6.0 on Windows Terminal
server. And are now having problems opening some files with some
applications from samba shares. We have traced it to being a file open
function used by apps.
such as notepad and perl.
Any ideas what has changed in SP6 and how to fix it?

vb6 sp6
I've installed the latest Wine RC and I'm trying to use it to install VB6 SP6. I've succeeded in getting sp5 installed but when I run the sp6 installer I get as far as the agree/disagree button and as soon as I click the "I Agree" button I get the "Visual Studio 6 Service Pack 6 setup was not completed successfully" click OK box.

No access to root-level of shares on NT4 SP6 with Samba 2.2.2 on FBSD-4.7
Hi all,
I've got a strange problem with my German NT4 SP6 and my FreebSD-4.7
Samba 2.2.2 server running as a PDC. I connect to several shares on the
Samba-machine by linking them to drive letters. I can browse them but I
can not copy anything to the root-level of the share, neither
directories nor files. The error message is on the NT4-box is:

NT PDC Rejecting Samba name registration
Looking for help on how I can convince my NT4 PDC to accept the name
registration of one of my Samba servers.
I have:
- PDC running NT 4 SP6
- Samba 2.2.8a on Solaris 8 Sparc which I am trying to have authenticate
against the PDC. This server is on a separate subnet connected by a VPN.
There is no port blocking in place and all the servers can talk to each
other quite happily

RE: Samba connecting to NT PDC
(Please take this to samba@lists.samba.org <mailto:samba@lists.samba.org> ,
it's not a development issue.)
Try defining the IP address for "CAT" in your /etc/lmhosts file. Your WINS
server may not be supplying good information. Also, try to ping CAT at its
IP address. It doesn't appear to be reachable from where the Samba server
is.

SAMBA NT
Dear folks,
We are running SAMBA (2.0.5.a) in a test-enviroment using an IBM Risc
6000 / 370 (AIX 4.3.2) as server. The frontends are pc's running NT 4.0
(SP6).
Is it possible to connect from one frontend to the same share as two
different users (with different passwords and privileges)?
The connection works out perfectly for every single user but when we try
to connect one user after the

Samba PDC windoze BDC
Hi,
During my migration to samba, I had kind of assumed
that I could run Samba as a PDC and my windoze server
as a BDC to ease the migration path a little and still
keep the same domain. I was going to use samba 2.2.5
on the PDC and NT4 sp6 on the BDC. After reading quite
a bit, it looks as though this doesn't work?
Is there a way to make it work?
Does Samba 3 handle this?
Is Samba 3

Sybiz Accounting + 2.2.7 = ????
Hi all,
Got some hassles with a client running Sybiz accounting. This is a FoxPro
application developed in VB6.
We're just through the exercise of eliminating all the pieces that might be
causing problems and unfortunately that might include Samba.....
Running Samba 2.2.7 on Red Hat 7.3. All clients are running either Windows
2000 or Win XP.
We're getting cases of workstations being

Double work at Model.rebuild_index
I''m noting that every time I run Model.rebuild_index its running twice
the rebuild_index. Also, on ferret_index.log there is only one small
difference from the first and second time, see:
First time it shows:
rebuild index: []
reindexing model User
After it finishes, it automatically starts the second time and shows;
rebuild index: [["User"]]

NT poledit.* & common.adm & winnt.adm & windows.adm
I've googled my brains out trying to find the "latest" NT 4.0 System
Policy Editor files:
POLEDIT.CNT
POLEDIT.EXE
POLEDIT.HLP
COMMON.ADM (NT & W9x)
WINNT.ADM (NT)
WINDOWS.ADM (W9x)
I only have dialup access, and it will take me a zillion days to
download SP6 for NT so I can extract the above files.
Can any one point me to where I can D/L those six (or 0110) files?
Thanks

NT domain and Samba domain
Hello eveyone,
My situation is :
I have NT4 sp6 domain working fine.
I have a Samba 3.0 working fine.
I've installed the bi-directional relation.
In the users'list of NT4 I can see the users and groups of the samba domain.
But I can't join in a Samba's group users from the NT4 domain.
So my users of the NT4 domain can't access to the shares of the samba
domain.
Where can

NT 4.0 SP7
Guess what, after I posted I came across the list of hotfixes for after SP6
for NT4.
It's basically SP7 under any other name - but requires SP6a installed.

It's a whopping 13.99 Mb to download (or if you believe IE's figures more
than their website, 14.1 )

I am running a small network consisting of a few Win98 machines, 2 NT

everything is working fine.
However, when I try to list the shares on a Win98 box fron an NT machine,
having logged on with a domain-authenticated account, the Win98 boxes
return an "Access Denied" error. If I do the same with a local account on

Should Windows NT guest use all of a CPU?
I've "ported" an old VMware VM containing Windows NT 4 SP6 into
libvirt/kvm/qemu and got it running (more or less).
However, the CPU graph next to the VM in virt-manager shows it
starts using 100% of the allocated CPU as soon as it reaches
the "OS Loader" screen, and stays there even after Windows has
booted and I've logged in. (There's a dip now and then,
