Win98 clients not 'seeing' each other
Hi there,
I have a somewhat wide experience with samba. I've succesfully installed
it as a client as well as a PDC on Windows networks.
The last time, however, there has been an issue with the win9x stations.
I've setup the Samba server over Linux to act as a PDC for the domain. I
use dhcp to assign the network configuration to the hosts, and the only
protocol installed on them is

Using user account information from another machine
Hi,
I had no responses to my previous message about setting up a samba linux
fileserver using account info from another linux box, so I've tried to
figure out a solution.
I need to have two separate servers, one holding the UNIX accounts for
the users and also acting as a PDC, and a second one acting as a mere
file server with a backup unit (perhaps a DVD-RW).
All I want to do is that the

Samba-based Linux fileserver using account info from another Linux box
Hey there,
I'm planning on setting up a mixed windows network (there are 98, 2000
and XP clients on it). I want to use two Linux servers for the network,
one will act as the mail server (which will hold the users accounts) and
another one will be the fileserver for massive storage and backup.
The mail server will be the internet gateway/router of the network, and
I want it to hold the real

Network browsing with through OpenVPN
Hi all,
I have succesfully joined together three LANs using OpenVPN over Linux
(Debian) gateways at the 'exit' of each one of these LANs.
The VPN seems to be OK, as I can ping network hosts from one LAN to
another using their private IP addresses with no problem at all.
However network browsing through the VPN is not working.
The network diagram for my setup is at

Pentium Samba server?
I have got an old pentium back. It is an Intel 66Mhz processor, 16MB RAM and
a 2 gigabyte harddrive. Could it be used as a dedicated samba server and
what Linux disto would work well? I was thinking of Debian 3 or Slackware.
Can samba act as a 2000 PDC?

Samba as a Multiple Domain Controller on a complex setup
Hi all,
I've run across this problem before but this time it's a rather
complicated setup.
a. We have a long list of local users, all of them resident at the
system level /etc/passwd, and on three different primary groups (each
of these groups corresponds to what needs to be a different Windows
Domain)
b. Some of these users will actually belong to more than one Domain,

WinNT -> samba -> Linux -> NFS -> Solaris
I have Solaris machines that I'd like to use to
gain access to SMB shared drives. I can get a Linux box to
mount SMB shares via samba. I can get a Solaris box to access
files on a Linux box using NFS. Can I get the Solaris box to
access files on the Linux box, which actually are mounted to SMB
shares using samba (smbmount) on the Linux box?
Is there any documents for this?
Thanks

(no subject)
Hello!
I trying to setup Domain Controller with Samba,
but I have some trouble.
As I understood, I ought to create "Trust Account" for
every mashine, and if mashine name is "vasya" then
account should be "vasya$"
but FreeBSD is not allowed to create accounts with "$" characters,
what should I do ?
Thanks!

seeing/setting file or directory owners from win9x just like from nt/w2k
Hi All,
Is there a way (speak command/wsh script) that allows a win9x
workstation that is logged into a samba domain server (running
onlinux for example) to see from the workstation what owner a
certain file or directory has?
Under win2k the "dir /q" command does this adequately.
And if this is possible, is it then possible for someone to change
the ownership of a file to another

anaconda-ks.cfg fatal
Good afternoon Support Team,
I have discovered a disturbing error inside?anaconda-ks.cfg under the /root directory. Examination found the config file devoid of the string "buns". It's distressing, because I don't understand how my Anaconda can get anything done if it doesn't happen to have any buns.
Please advise I need to know how to continue. Please feel free to contact me

Win9x can not see my Samba
I hace just installed samba.
It works fine using application on my debian,
but from Win98 can not see my samba.
I can not achieve to see my samba as part
of the NT domain.
If I try to find
\\mysamba\share
(where mysamba is my netbios name)
Win98 says
"Error 53" Unknown hosts or route to host
(in spanish)
using my IP instead of "mysamba" produces the
same result on Win98, but

messages from being printed to stdout if the tar-file is

OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 won't build on IRIX 5.2
It depends on regex.h, that is not part of IRIX 5's standard library
and, in fact, that is no portable in general. I'm currently using
GNU rx as a replacement, but it would be nice to have a portable
implementation of regular expressions built into OpenSSH, if it is to
depend on them.
Best regards,

Error message in polr
Dear members of the list,
I'm fitting ordinal regressions using polr, and in some models I
get the error copied below. Dependent variable is an ordered factor
of bird abundance categories, and predictors are continuous habitat
variables.

security bug in 2.4.1
A bit of context for the SAMBA mailing list:
Amanda <URL:http://www.amanda.org> is a distributed back up software
that can be used to back up M$Win shares, using smbclient. Some
Amanda users have complained that the password to access shares can be
obtained by running `ps', and we're trying to figure out a way to fix
this problem. The PASSWD environment variable won't do,

Redelivery of mdbox messages to pass through sieve
Hey,
I've been slack and haven't updated my sieve script for yonks, and
finally got round to it.
What I was wondering is whether there was a way to basically take all
the messages from a
folder and pass it through sieve again. I've found earlier messages in
this list, but they
were for Maildir format, not mdbox which I use now.
Does anyone know of a way to do this?
Cheers,
Hugh
