Two MS Access questions (compact database & Access XP)
We're in the process of replacing an ailing NT box with a Linux one running Samba (Red Hat 7.3 w/ kernel 2.4.18-18.7.xsmp [from Red Hat] and samba version 2.2.7, with a variety of Win2k boxes connecting to it) and I have a couple of quick MS Access questions (in the hopes someone out there has had any experience with these things): 1) We have one rather large (700MB+) Access database on

Syslinux + USB + PE 2.0
I am having the darnedest of times trying to get my WinPE to work off the syslinux loader. I used to use isolinux, and my isolinux config would just invoke the etfsboot.com file which i had renamed to loader.bin, and everything would work just fine off a cd. But now I'm trying to transfer all of my cd functionality to thumbdrives. With Syslinux, i have my syslinux.cfg file calling loader.bin

Something like "fix buildbot failures from previous commit" is specific enough, without making the reader look up a specific commit number. The reason is that it will be harder to

Samba + Clipper

Fileshare - how to enable Modify permission for an rwx-enabled file
Thank You, Rowland. I have already read that. According to chapter File System Support, does that imply, that Samba could also well never grant Modify permission for linux ACLs? Do I need extended ACLs on filesystem in order to do that? I thought, that write permission on filesystem should be sufficient for Samba to grant Modify for Windows... As of smb.conf, here is snippet [pripomienkovanie]

samba & Oracle ACFS Issues
Hi there In an Oracle RAC cluster using ACFS (as file-system) where we have a samba server for sharing files to windows clients, we are suffering a strange issue, from time to time, which it causes the Windows clients lock for a while (10 min or a bit more) or even indefinitely when they are working with the share resource, and sometimes we have to re-start the samba service to come back to

slow access while crossmounting samba
Hi, I've got two linux machines with the same distribution and samba 3 that cross-mounts a share (i.e., machine a mounts a share of machine b and vice versa). I'm experiencing slow access from the machines to the opposite mounted share and I don't know what this slow performance can be due to. I'm not running with oplocks cause the share is accessed only by the other linux

Using Samba with LDAP and SSL
I have been reading up on SSL and LDAP. I have read how to create the CA and how to sign certificates. When using Outlook Express, LDAP and SSL, we need to import the certificate so that Outlook Express can verify the authenticity of the LDAP server. What does my Samba setup need to allow the Windows workstation to contact the LDAP server over SSL?

Locking problem
Hi all! I am using Debian Sarge with Samba version 3.0.14a-Debian and experience a locking problem: the program is a linux port of a Clipper program compiled with xHarbour (www.xharbour.org). It uses byte-range-locking to lock a record of a dbf database. If I mount the server directory over an smbmount and start 2 clients on the server accessing the server directory over the smbmount, the

Client Disconnects
Hi, I'm running samba 2.2.7 on redhat advanced server with approximately 40 win2k clients and having a serious problem with the clients. Intermittently the clients will lose their connection to the server for approximately 30 seconds. It's like the socket connection is being reset or something. Here's a sample output from a client log file: [2003/04/12 15:13:08, 0]

Creating variable names
My apologies for asking what is doubtless a dumb question, but I have scant experience in R. It would be very convenient in doing lots of plots to be able to do them in a loop that stepped through a vector of variable names. For example one could say x<-("mydates") y<-c("foo1","foo2","foo3") #where "foon" were vectors

Samba Slow for Shared App.
Hi List: My setup: cups-1.3.5 nss_ldap-259 openldap-2.4.7 openslp-1.2.1 perl-5.10.0 samba-3.0.28 I have an application that is a Win32 app. We share the application on a Samba server. The application has 3 DLLs that it opens and uses code from. Originally we were running a 2.x version of Samba and all users had local accounts. Samba was not acting in a domain controller role. Users had
