Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6 - RESOLVED
Found this issue in the list archives, with no resolution. I think I found
one.
We were having this exact problem, and we resolved it by removing
\*.doc\*.DOC\ from our smb.conf "veto oplocks" list, and adding
\*.tmp\*.TMP\. Leaving the *.tmp files out of the veto list was causing Word
2000 to say that a file was currently locked by 'another user', even when
the file was just

gplpv driver correctly supports 9GB RAM in Windows 32bit?
Hello
I have Debian Linux 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 Xen 4.0.1, 2 SAS drives in
RAID 1, 16GB ram.
I have virtualized Windows 2003R2 32bit where you install the
latest version 0.11.0.295 gplpv
After reading and reading forums and post testing, I noticed that the
hard disk performance drops significantly when I assign the windows
domU 9GB ram. (below I leave the config files)

Inconsistant result for normalizePath on Windows
Hi all,
I saw a quite surprising result in the devel R when using the function
*normalizePath*. If the input is a path to a folder, the function returns
an absolute path with/without a slash at the end depending on the existence
of the folder. I know both results are valid on Windows but this behavior
is different than R3.6, I do not know if the change in the devel version is
made on purpose.

Inconsistant result for normalizePath on Windows
Hi Jiefei,
the change in handling trailing path separators is not on purpose, but
is a byproduct of a new implementation of normalizePath, which now
handles symbolic links and normalizes case in long path names. It is not
documented what happens to trailing separators, and hence portable
programs should not depend on it. I don't think it is a property that
should be documented/specified.

hardware error 0x80000021 on Ubuntu 12.10, need advice
Hi,
On a DELL r610 (Intel Xeon L5520) and a Windows guest I have an
hardware error. The bug is well known[1][2] and seems fixed with the
package 3.5.0-16-generic. But I use 3.5.0-30-generic. Do I need to
upgrade to 13.10? Or just the kernel ? Or modify the options of the
kvm module?
Thanks.

Re: [linux-lvm] lvm deadlock with 2.4.x kernel?
I think I have this one solved, I hope.
I think what Andreas and I are running into are a few different
assertions. One being the LVM lvm_do_pv_flush caused assertion which is
related directly to invalidate_buffers() being called which then triggers
refile_buffer() on a journaled buffer, which appears clean in all other
ways according to the checks in refile_buffer().
The following is what

FW: smbmount problem
Hi
Sorry about the misplaced Q
I tried to use a script that when user will logon to the machine he will
mount to smb mount (instead of fstab if it's problem)
I sow on several places the option to use on /etc/fstab this line
//server/share /mnt/home smbfs noauto,user 0 0
and I tried to put on script smbmount //server/share /mnt/home -o
username=$USER and get

printing from xp
Hi,
I've installed Samba 2.2.7a on a Red Hat 9 machine. This machine is
also running VMware with Windows XP as the guest OS. The XP virtual
machine can access the Linux host's shared directories, but not the
printer. The printer is an Epson Stylus Color 860. It works fine in
the Linux host. In the XP guest, I can see the printer in the add
printer configuration wizard. But when

Scrambled Jobnames when Printing
Dear Samba!
I use a perl script to move print jobs around for users, and there is a custom
printer interface to pick up the jobs. Windows clients print to the samba
printer, which basically moves the job to another share to be picked up by the
print server client, depending on the users \\Machine Name. A sample from the
conf file:

changing domains
Hi,
We're going through a massive IT upgrade at our company. All of the
Windows computers are begin migrated to a new domain. I want to move
our Red Hat 7.2 Samba server to the new domain. I changed the domain
name using SWAT. I checked that the new domain name was entered in
/etc/samba/smb.conf. But the Samba server isn't showing up in the new
domain in the Network Neighborhood on

samba in 7.2
Hi,
I'm running Samba 2.2.1a in Red Hat 7.2. Some things appear to have
changed since I upgraded from Red Hat 6.2. Where should smb.conf
reside? In 6.2, I had it in /etc. Now I see several smb.conf, in /etc,
/etc/samba, and /usr/local/samba. Also, how is Samba started and
stopped? Under 6.2, I was starting and stopping smb in
/etc/rc.d/init.d. Thanks,
Hidong

.Rprofile on MacOSX
I'm new to R, so apologies if the answer to my question is very obvious to
everyone else!
I use the carbon version of R (1.5.1), not the Darwin version. After a bit
of a battle, I'm getting to grips with using R, and really getting to like
it, but I'm still having trouble customising startup the way I'd like it.
Reading ?Startup, I see that I can specify some commands to be run

samba with vmware
Hi,
I just installed Red Hat 9 on a Dell Latitude D600
laptop. Then I installed VMware 4 and installed
Windows XP as the guest operating system. I want to
run Samba on the Red Hat 9 host to share files with
the Windows XP guest. Each OS individually is running
fine. I compiled Samba 3.0.2 on the Red Hat host, but
I can't start Samba. I try starting it with

Patch and introduction
Hi,
I''m currently trying to get icalendar packaged and into Fedora and EPEL,
During this process I''ve noticed that you''re currently using
Gem::manage_gems
in the make Rakefile, this method was depecated in rubygems 1.3.0 them
removed in rubygems 1.3.3.
The attached patch updates the Rakefile replacing the method with the
two require calls required.

Cups print jobnames became SMB jobname not doc name
Since upgrading to Fedora Core 3 the jobname for the files being printed to
our PDF CUPS backend have become the Samba jobname as in
"SMBPRN.888009.hjdcl" instead of the application filename such as "Microsoft
Word - Document1.DOC". This stops us from providing a properly-named PDF
file to our users.
Our other server that is still on Core 1 does not have this problem.
