MYOB Performance issues on Samba
I am experiencing a performance issue with MYOB accounting package being
served from a Debian 2.4.18 based server running samba. Clients are
Win2K/WinXP clients in a small workgroup environment, all maping drive
to samba 'data' share. Network is pure TCP/IP, no other (MS or Samba)
servers on LAN.
I've experimented with Oplocks and veto oplocks but to no result the

samba-3.0.0-rc4 and Domain Admins
Hi!
I am experiencing problems adding a user (e.g. smbadmin) to the "Domain
Admins" group on my samba-PDC using the ldapsam backend.
When I add "Domain Admins" as a supplementary group, the Windows 2000
client doesn't treat smbadmin as an admin. However, using "Domain
Admins" as the primary group (including setting sambaPrimaryGroupSID as

smbpasswd and RID/SID problems with LDAP
Problem number one:
-------------------
I'm running a few-hours-old CVS version of Samba 3.0 with LDAP as the
authentication backend, and I'm having some problems trying to set up
the LDAP accounts using "smbpasswd". I build the structure of the
LDAP database by importing a couple of LDIF's, and then I import the
following user account to create an administrative account

"Point'n'Print" setup problems (2.2.8a & XP sp1)
Hi - I'm having trouble trying to get "Point'n'Print" working.
I (think I?) have set it up as per the HOW-TOs but here's what happens...
I login as "root" in the "MAXP" domain to the client (gservxp). I use
"Network Neighbourhood" to navigate to the server (lambada). I then open
up "Printers and Faxes" - just for info, the Add

Windows XP logon problems (samba 3.0alpha22)
When I try to logon to my windows XP box I get the following error
message from windows:
Windows did not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you
on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be copied to
the server when you logoff. Windows did not load your profile because a
server copy of the profile folder already exists that does not have the
correct security.

directory vs. file delete permissions
I have an [apps] share that was intended to be read-only (to keep
viruses away) however some Windows programs require rw access to
specific files. I don't want to open-up everything on the share to rw,
only those specific files/directories that need 'w' access.
Here's the dilemma: In order for users to be able to change a file, the
file and directory it's in need to have rw

net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" ... succeeds but fails
After reading through the documentation, I realized that as a part of the
migration process from Samba-2.2.X to Samba-3.0.0 I needed to convert
everyone in my smbadmin group (previously domain admin group = @smbadmin) to
the "Domain Admins" group w/rid=512. So, I issued the following command:
[root@localhost profile]# net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins"

cifs-utils: regression in (mulituser?) mounting 'CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -126'
Hello,
On Debian 9 (stretch prerelease) I am able to mount with the following
command with root using the following command:
mount -t cifs //smb.physics.wisc.edu/smb /smb
-osec=krb5,multiuser,username=smbadmin at PHYSICS.WISC.EDU --verbose
root can also access files as expected
However, when cifs-utils 6.6-5 is installed, a different user cannot
access as expected:
ls /smb

performance problem with 3.2.8: unbuffered reads for some users
Hi!
I'm experiencing strange performance problems after upgrading to samba
3.2.8 from 3.0.30.
For all users except smbadmin (who has administrative rights), read
performance is _very_ bad. Looking at the read-requests using filemon
and wireshark, I found out that for those users, every read is handled
transparently (unbuffered) over the net. (I.e. a 2 byte read-request of

Cannot copy back profile
Hi! I have a problem with roaming profiles which I don't understand.
I can login and logout from XP with a samba PDC with ldapsam
flawlessly, but for some reasons when the profile does not
belong to the user itself windows tells me upon logout that it cannot
copy back some files to the server. Weird, because the directory
where the profile resides is readable and writable by the user,

Small Bug with username map (2.2.5)
Hi, there appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file
interpretation.
When I put an exclamation mark before a line in the file, that is supposed
to stop any further mapping if a match has already been made.
That's what I understand to be the case.
This is not happening for me.
When I connect from a Win2k machine as Administrator, the log file
records the mapping from

estimating parameters of a model
Hi,
I am about to conduct an experiment of temperature dependent development of
an insect. Here I would like to know is if I could be able to find the
parameters of the models what I will use in data analysis with R program.
I have found some other softwares that can be used for parameter estimation
but liscence would be needed, not open source. So I prefer to use R langauge
if it is reliable

valid users fails with net groupmap rid=512
Hi,
The group that is mapped to rid=512 cannot be used in "valid users", the
users cannot map the share (error 5).
Is this normal? Should I file a bug?
Version 4.1.6-Ubuntu

valid users = +smbadmin
command:

Are these BUGS? anyone experienced either of these?
I have experienced a couple of (minor) problems with Samba
Thought I would report these and ask if they are known problems.
1. Problem with "!" in username map file
2. Samba tools e.g. smbstatus, testparm not accounting for "config file"
parameter

ntconfig.pol policies for groups
Hi!
I have a problem using ntconfig.pol-policies for domain groups other
than "Domain Users" and "Domain Admins".
I am using Samba 2.2.7 with LDAP support as a PDC.
Policies work as expected for "Domain Users" and "Domain Admins" but
setting policies for any other group doesn't work.
The "Browse"-list for AddGroups in poledit only shows

samba 3.0 alpha 24 with LDAP question
has anyone expereience with setting this up or better yet documented
this procedure?? I have gotten samba to talk to my ldap 2.0x server but
it will not allow me to use the net command to modify group mappings. I
am including a dump of my samba log at debug level 10 when I issue these
commands and the general section of my smb.conf file.

Upgrading Samba
I am in the process of planning for a samba upgrade. The current version
of Samba (2.2.8a) runs on a Sunfire 280R with Solaris 8. The intended
new platform is a sunfire V240 with Solaris 9 as the OS. The new version of
Samba will be Samba-3.0.10. Please note that the Samba server will be a
member of a domain.
I've read Samba-3 by Example, Chapter 8 which describes to the process of

Not using CUPS. How much can I strip from smb.conf?
I'm not using CUPS for printing, instead clients have local printers and
are using Windows' printer sharing.
Can I assume it's safe to completely remove the following from smb.conf,
or do I need to replace it with something:
[global]
printcap name = cups
printing = cups
[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
printer admin = root, smbadmin
