Adobereader on Centos7 crashes
Hello All, I can't get Adobe Reader to run stable on Centos7, when trying to edit settings or trying to print, it crashes. The issue is people need to digitally sign pdf forms. When I open these forms with anything else then Adobereader, I get EM To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader

Playback/background audio from MySQL BLOB
For some applications, storing recorded audio (prompts and caller recordings) as a BLOB in MySQL has advantages. So, once I have the audio in the database, how can I play it? Creating temporary files seems so tacky. Is there another way to playback or background audio either by specifying a URL or from a memory buffer (either C or PHP)? -- Thanks in advance,

PBX to gate interface
Has anyone found a good wayt o do a gate intercom using Asterisk? I am looking at a Xorcom PBX with programmable contact, so I have no issue with opening the gate, but the interface at the gate is a bit tricky. I thought about a weather proof housing containing a phone but it seems a bit tacky. I also looked at a handsfree erather proof phone, but at $600 it is a bit steep. Any solutions that

staying in control over the case in file_column plugin
using file_column plugin, if I upload IMG0001.JPG, I get files similarly named IMG0001-thumb.JPG, etc. but if I upload img00002.jpg, I get files img00002-thumb.jpg, etc. This is tacky in terms of my counting on a consistency when implementing views. My inclination is to start hacking away at this section of file_column.rb: class PermanentUploadedFile < RealUploadedFile # :nodoc: def

Blocking problem with embeded R (windows)
Hi all, I am trying to make calls to R from an MFC application running on XP and am having problems blocking the application while the call executes. I have tried the following approaches to using R from the application (note that I set a wait cursor while R is executing). 1) call rcmd in BATCH mode using system(). This works well, except that I get the cmd window popping up... which makes the

SAPI (Speech Synthesis API)
Replace nospam with ssb22 to reply by email. Hi, Does anybody have pointers about using SAPI 5 speech synthesis engines (sometimes called a "SAPI 5 voices") under Wine? I've searched all over the Web but can't find any mention of it. Although English speech is well-supported in Linux, speech in languages like Chinese, Japanese and Korean is not. Commercial offerings are

Festival Speech Synthesis 1.95:beta July 2004 Eval
Hello-- In the interests of playing around and wasting time, I've installed the latest version of the Festival stuff, 1.95beta. And, in the interests of future Asterisk-Festival connectivity, I applied the 1.4.3 patch to put in the asterisk related routines. I did it by hand, but, it looks like the patch will apply with no comment. Asterisk works with the new server... BUT the speed of

Sounds transscript / speech synthesis
Hi, in the earlier version there was a sounds.txt with the transcript of the soundfiles. Does this still exist somewhere? Is there a plan to make speech synthesis available the same way as soundfiles, ie. instead of playing language/soundfile.wav, send the text to the speechengine and play the output...? Transmitting synthetic speech using Speex?
Hi Reed, I've been using Speex to transmit TTS for years. It works very well with no tweaking. I use Microsoft TTS ("Microsoft Mike") with Speex at 16kHz wideband and VBR quality 6. Sometimes I forget that the sound is even coming from another computer and being compressed+decompressed. If anything, TTS seems easier for Speex to deal with than real voice. But I don't

Adobe Reader 7.0.8 on x86_64 system
Hi Everyone, [yes, this is about a proprietary product, but I'm just asking for some tips/pointers] Has anyone tried installing the new Adobe Reader (7.0.8) RPM from Adobe on a CentOS 4.3 x86_64 box? I just attempted an upgrade from AdobeReader_enu-7.0.1-1 (also RPM install), and I'm getting this error: error: Failed dependencies: libGLU.so.1 is needed by

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr
