I have Samba v2.2.7 on Solaris 8. I have uploaded all the needed print drivers and setup several printers using administrator. I edited the 'device settings', under printer/properties, to adjust memory and paper trays etc. When I login as a regular user on W2k client, the settings are underintensified and I don't see the changes made earlier, only the default settings. Adding workstations to domain as non-root
Hi, The Problem: I have a samba domain using LDAP as the backend, complete with the IdealX LDAP scripts. Most of my Unix boxes (certainly anything which does any Samba stuff) authenticates against the same LDAP backend, using it for groups and users. I need to grant some people sufficient priviliges to add workstations to the domain, but I don't want to give them the root password in

Multiple domain browselist over a wanlink
Hi, I'm trying to generate a multiple domain browselist but I don't get it to work. I've tried everyting by the book but the result is always the same: I can see the other workgroup(s) but they are empty. Currently I've added the following rules to the smb.conf remote browse sync = 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.4 remote announce = 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.4 As far as I understand

question about accessing XP login names within smb.conf
I don't want to maintain a list of userids in either Linux, or Samba. Our PDC is a win 2000 box and all the userids are stored on that win 2000 box. I'd like to store the "My Documents" folders on a Samba server and use %U to map each student's "My Documents" to their directory on the Linux machine. This works well in Win 98, but on the XP machine, instead of

%U and %u different between XP and Win98
I want to use %U to map My Documents to each individual's directory on the Samba server. This is working fine in Win98 but in XP %U maps to "guest" when I log in as "george". In Win98 %U comes across as "george". I am running Samba V 3.0.20 Linux kernel 2.4.22 Slackware 9.1.0 All Win98 and XP machines are in a domain with the pdc on a different box from

%u and %U different between Win98 and Win XP Pro
I have a computer here with both Win 98 and Win XP Pro set up as a dual boot. The computer name and domain are the same in both O/S's. I log in to them with the user name "george". When I log in from Win 98, %u expands to my username, "george". When I log in through Win XP, I get "guest". Can anyone suggest why this is happening? I don't have any userid's
