.Net 4 through WINE??
Specifically, I'm trying to find out if anyone is able to install or use applications that require dotnet 4. There is a econometrics package called SHAZAM 11 that I'd like to be able to install. If anyone has a clue for me, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Asterisk-Driven Linux Distro
Hey All; Well I am very pleased with all I've seen related to Asterisk and am also very ( and I mean VERY) happy with * itself. Thanks to all the help posted on this list I could get my box running and even start designing some stuff that were not possible to a telecom illiterate guy like me before. So, 2 cents a part.... I was wondering if anyone already thought about or is working on

beta regression in R
Hello, I'm using optim to program a set of mle regression procedures for non-normal disturbances. This is for teaching and expository purposes only. I've successfully programmed the normal, generalized gamma, gamma, weibull, exponential, and lognormal regression functions. And optim returns reasonable answers for all of these compared with the identical optimization problems in STATA and

VSftp, ssl/tls, slight issue with directory listings
Centos 6, stock installation, no additional repos added. vsftp works fine in regular mode, going to ssl I got issues. I get as far as 'directory listing' and it dies. It times out and disconnects. file: /etc/sysconfig/iptables-config added: IPTABLES_MODULES="ip_conntrack_ftp" (without this line, ftp normally fails, afraid it may be causing issues with the ssl) iptables -A

Using Solaris iSCSI target in VirtualBox iSCSI Initiator
Hello, I?m using ZFS to export some iscsi targets for the virtual box iscsi initiator. It works ok if I try to install the guest OS manually. However, I?d like to be able to import my already prepared guest os vdi images into the iscsi devices but I can?t figure out how to do it. Each time I tried, I cannot boot. It only works if I save the manually installed guest os and re-instate the same

How to join a win2k-domain using Samba 2.*
The documentation that I found regarding this issue wasn't that good - it didn't help me that much. Later on I managed to join the win2k-domain after a lot of work. Thus I'm writing this letter in order to help people who were in my situation. This was my problem and the solution I devised for it: I was using samba-2.2.3a (debian package) and the windows-domain I tried to join is

Need advice about models with ordinal input variables
Dear colleagues: I've been storing up this question for a long time and apologize for the length and verbosity of it. I am having trouble in consulting with graduate students on their research projects. They are using surveys to investigate the sources of voter behavior or attitudes. They have predictors that are factors, some ordered, but I am never confident in telling them what

Success - Rails, FastCGI, and IIS / Windows Server
About 17:00 localtime I managed to get fastcgi, Rails and IIS all happy together. Upon success I ripped off my clothes and ran through the village yelling "The future is now!". A PDP-11 geezer stuck his head out a window and said "The future isn''t what it used to be and keep yer shirt on". Modifications were required to dispatch.fcgi and request.rb. The following

Optimizing FLAC decoding
Hi all, I am trying to run the FLAC decompression at optimal performance, but the CPU utilization averages only around 60%. I have a suspicion that this is a desired behaviour to enable run-time decompression without slowing any other programs (i.e. players) down. There should not be any IO bottlenecks on the machine that I am using. Can anybody confirm my suspicions? Are there any workarounds?

AJAX Drag and Drop Detecting Drop Coordinates
This one''s kicking me in the *(&#^. All I want to do is create a draggable item and then detect the coordinates where it is dropped. So my first approach was to just use the draggable_element with :revert => false, like so: <%= draggable_element "my_element", :revert => false %> That works great and lets me drag stuff all over the place. In the scriptaculous

GlusterFS mounted home directories
Just want to let everyone know that with a couple of all-nighters I was able to replace my NFS mounted home directories with GlusterFS replicated across two servers. A couple of things I learned: Server side AFR doesn't work right. Not sure if I really care. It would have been nice to use the bonded Gigabit connection between the servers to do the mirroring, rather then client/server

holding objects in dataframes
Hello list, I need to keep track of objects that are related to particular observations. In this case, I need to keep track of polygons that are associated with observations. What I would ideally have is one column of a dataframe hold a "polygonal" object (from the spatstat package). My question: I seem to have managed to do it, but as I haven't read that dataframes are supposed

Mean-Centering Question
Hello, I'm trying to create a custom function that "mean-centers" data and can be applied across many columns. Here is an example dataset, which is similar to my dataset: *Location,TimePeriod,Units,AveragePrice* Los Angeles,5/1/11,61,5.42 Los Angeles,5/8/11,49,4.69 Los Angeles,5/15/11,40,5.05 New York,5/1/11,259,6.4 New York,5/8/11,187,5.3 New York,5/15/11,177,5.7
