Problem with smbclient and domain logon
I am able to join the domain initially with root username and password. When i reboot and try to logon to the domain it tells me: The system could not log you on because the domain DARCSTAR is unavailable. Additionally, i am having a problem with logging in from smbclient with any user except for root: I type: smbclient -L FILESERVER -U sean password: session_setup_failed:

Samba 4 Domain Member fileserver permission denied error
Hi there, I have a working Samba 4 domain (4.1.5) with several DC's spread over a global network. They are all based on Ubuntu 12.04. At present the domain member fileservers for this network are all running Samba 3.4.7 and using NSLCD and *nix permissions to allow access. This is working nicely. I am now trying to create a new Samba 4 (4.1.7 Ubuntu 12.04) domain member fileserver and have

Rotary phones? (No, I'm serious)
Will the FXS cards that work with asterisk handle rotary? Are there any channel banks that can convert rotary to touch tone (like some sorta bridge)? The goal is to be able to log input from rotary phones. Full PBX functionality would be nice but... (It's for a project, not for serious production). -- // Ethan O'Toole //

ADDC and fileserver
Hi, I'm planning to make a samba4 domain. My initial plan was to make the DC also fileserver. Recently I saw a discussion strongly discouraging the use of a DC as fileserver. That was not the first time is saw similar remarks. So I think I need a DC and a member server. But how does it work concerning the "home-shares" of users ? Are those also on the member-server ? So that

Fileserver and access groups
Hi! I have Samba AD DC and Samba fileserver (hereafter-FS) as domain member. I need to organize access to the specific shares on FS for a groups of specific domain users. Where should I make the domain user groups - on DC, on FS or on both? Does the FS need any local Samba users at all? What if domain users' homes are located on FS? Janis

Cannot authenticate as guest to domain-joined Samba 4.7.0 fileserver when map untrusted to domain = auto
Hello, I just upgraded Samba on a fileserver from 4.6.8 to 4.7.0; this fileserver is joined to a Samba4 AD Domain. I have configured the following options to allow guest access to a share: [global] guest account = nobody map to guest = Bad User [Share] guest ok = yes When attempting to connect from a local account on a Windows 7 client (the client is joined to the domain but the

RJS and layouts
Hi all, I''ve been using RJS more and more for my app and I have sorta run into a possible issue. My app has different user roles that require different layouts. So far, this has worked fine, but now that I''m using rjs more and more I''m finding that the two don''t really work together since I have to rails not to use a layout upon controller method

fileserver security
Is there any security (or perhaps plans to add security) within the fileserver to verify that clients are only able to receive files specified in the manifests on the server? I''d like to distribute different Kerberos keytabs to different nodes such that nodes www01 and www02 can retrieve different files from nodes www03 and www04. Any ideas on how best to approach this problem? Thanks,

Newbie Question: Type of card
Hi, I am sorta a newbie to the asterisk community at least in the realm of hardware types. I was wondering, what type of card is used to allow asterisk, on a slackware installation to talk to a standard phone line so that asterisk can call out? Dan

Playing MP3s...
For no reason other than it would be cool, I'd like to be able to dial an extension and have it play a random MP3. Since, however, MP3s are kinda-sorta weird due to patents, I'm not sure what the right approach for this is. Any pointers on how to go about this? Thanks! -Ken

No mapping on second fileserver
Hi, We recently switched our NT4 Domain to AD. We have 2 AD serves using sernet packages on debian buster with bind9 dns backend, isc-dhcpd updated by the dyndns script. Files are served by a AD member server (AKA fileserver) on debian buster, too. It's using the original debian samba packages. However, I am still far away from calling myself familiar with samba 4 AD :(. Nevertheless, I

Samba 4 AD and Samba 3.6 Fileserver GID Problem
Hi all, I am preparing a migration from openLDAP to Samba 4 AD I am trying to get a Samba 3.6 fileserver (for different reasons it has to be samba 3.6) with ad backend to work with a Samba 4 AD. Almost everything is working. The only problem is that the fileserver does not map the users gidNumber correctly. Example: userx has the uid 1229 and the gid 1040 If I use the "id"

Adding Samba3/4 fileserver to samba4 domain
Hi! We've been trying to add a fileserver to our current samba4 test domain. The scenario is that we have several branch offices connected by low bandwith lines. So we want to have a fileserver locally handling home directories/profiles and stuff like that but a central DC handling logins, GPO and such. The DC (samba4) is up and running the way we would like it to but we're now stuck
