Swat update :)
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!! But before I say what I did... yall have to promise not to laugh! (MAH!! I HEAR YOU!!) ... anyone ever heard of.... /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart I can tell you from experience that 'killall -HUP xinetd' is NOT the same. I can also say that nobody will find that command line entry in "Using Samba". To show my appreciation to the groups involved,

SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3) worked great, and I was really impressed. So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba 2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the office machine, I use encrypted passwords. I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no matter what account, password combination

EL6, xinetd, and permissions. What am I missing?
Staging for a rollout of EL 6, and ran into a very strange permissions issue with xinetd that defies all (my) logic. It's a script called "spfiled" that we use for messaging between our server cluster servers. I'm trying to get it to run with "least permissions necessary". Because it reads/writes files in conjunction with a web-based service, it runs as user

remote swat enabling
I've done this before and can't remember how. Also I have searched the archives and can't find it. Maybe some of us can come up with a better way searching the archives. My current way takes a lot of time. Anyway I am trying to enable swat from a remote location and there is some file somewhere that says only allow it from local but I can't remember what file that is. Can

Changing SWAT port or removing 2.2.7
Some of you have already read about my newbie fortune with this Samba3 install. Thanks to those who answered my original questions. Now I have something which I know is probably academic, and perhaps still newbie-related. When I installed Samba3 on Friday, it took me a little while to figure out that my names required adding a 3 to the end (SWAT3, SAMBA3, TESTPARM3, et al). I did not uninstall

Error running SWAT
Running SuSE v9.0 and Samba v3.0.7. I have samba up and running ok with printer and file shares working peer to peer with Win2000 box. However, I would like to use SWAT for config purposes, rather than manual edit. If I run http://localhost:901 I receive a 'connection refused' error message. I had a look in /etc/services and see these two lines as the only ones referring to port 901:

Promise TX2 and ATARAID....... kjouirnald and kupdated seem to fight it out for reasourses
What is really puzzling me is that the ataraid device (/dev/ataraid/d0p1 mounted as /bigdisk) 2x 123GB IBM Deskstar's is formated as ext2...top and ps etc... show a fight between kjournald and kupdated and all searches for kjournald or kupdated fights suggest ext3 issues... :-) It's a RedHat 7.2, 2.4.7-10 custom kernal (I added in the Promise FastTrak support and HIGH mem support to

Installed Kernal (default)
Is there a description or statement that describes the stock kernal in CentOS, and would give all the various modules it is compiled with? As with BSD, I assume there are things in the kernal that are mandatory, and then there are things that are optional or included so as to catch most everything one could have w/r/t hardware. That being the case, as with FreeBSD, removing those unneded

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members, I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed from

Mandrake 10, Request for comments.
My * is presently running fine on Mandrake 9.2, but Ive been entertaining moving to Mandrake 10.0 to enjoy the obvious improvement in kernal speed Im seeing on other 10.0 boxes Ive recently built for other applications. (10.0 is the first implementation of the 2.6 kernal) Any comments from anyone who's running on 10.0? IS anyone running * on Mandrake 10.0? If so, any issues stand out?
