RE: Samba connecting to NT PDC
(Please take this to samba@lists.samba.org <mailto:samba@lists.samba.org> ,
it's not a development issue.)
Try defining the IP address for "CAT" in your /etc/lmhosts file. Your WINS
server may not be supplying good information. Also, try to ping CAT at its
IP address. It doesn't appear to be reachable from where the Samba server
is.

Auth. Failing... Update - NSSwitch
Yes. Try checking the PAM setup. I have to assume when you say that you
can't log in via something obvious like telnet, you mean that Windows users
can't log in. If your Unix users can't telnet in, you have bigger problems.
:)
The PAM stack is what controls the logging in of Windows users to Unix
services like telnet. There is a document which describes the installation
of winbindd,

Auth. failing - Update - NSSwitch
Thank you Andrew, you pointed me in the right direction. Part of what I m
doing to try to get Netatalk to authenticate through Winbind was the
following:
4) to install Winbind files:
cp nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib
# this is the major one - solaris nss is different to linux.
ln -s libnss_winbind.so nss_winbind.so.1
cp nsswitch/pam_winbind.so /lib/security
Once I deleted /lib/libnss_winbind.so

Samba Team? - "ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not fou n d"
You can test if winbind is able to resolve user IDs internally with "wbinfo
-u". This uses the samba tool "wbinfo" to connect directly to the running
winbind daemon and list all the Windows domain users. If that fails, then
you have problems with the winbind daemon itself. The authentication between
winbind and the PDC can be tested with "wbinfo -t", which is usually

retrieve most abundant species by sample unit
Hi R-users:
[R 2.2 on OSX 10.4.3]
I have a (sparse) vegetation data frame with 500 rows (sampling
units) and 177 columns (plant species) where the data represent %
cover. I need to summarize the cover data by returning the names of
the most dominant and the second most dominant species per plot. I
reduced the data frame to omit cover below 5%; this is what it looks
like stacked. I have

rsync recursion question
That's the way it is. If it's really a one-off change, a huge change in your structure, telnet ssh, rsh, and so forth, work really well for dropping in and deleting stuff (unless you're supplying the master, and other systems out of your control copy
from you). Rsync is optimized for taking a filesystem in an unknown state, and making it identical to another filesystem in an unknown

mode data=journal in ext3. Is it safe to use?
Hello
I try again.
Can anybody of you acknowledge or not if mode data=journal in ext3 is
safe to use in Linux kernel 2.6.x?
Wee need to have a very consistent and integrity for our filesystem, and
it would then be desired to journal both data and metadata.
But if this mode can corrupt the filesystem as both Phil White and
Nicolas Kowalski has experienced, it may be more advised to use mode

mode data=journal. Is it safe to use?
Hello
I can see several postings on this mailing-list that people have problem
with mounting ext3 partition with mode data=journal.

We are going to use ext3 on a Compact Flash disk in true IDE mode. We
need this filesystem to be as safe and

Is = now the same as <- in assigning values
I?m a PhD student at the University of Warsaw, and have started using R.
In many books they specify to use <- instead of = when assigning
values, and this is also mentioned in older posts on the R website.
However, it seams to me that some update has occured, becuase I
continously get the same result wether I use <- or =.
I would be extremely helpful for any answer to this.

Zicounts package
Dear R users,
I have been using the zicounts package (verson 1.1.4) in R (version
2.4.1). I have been fitting zero inflated Poisson regressions to model
the number of trips made by a household. Whilst I can get the best fit
parameter set from zicounts, I can't get the package to return the
fitted values for the model. I have attempted to calculate the fitted
values from the optimal

configure patch for Alpha/Tru64 Unix 5.1
I had to apply this patch to configure.in to get configure to run on
Tru64 Unix on Alpha. The RSA test forgot to reset $LIBS.
(The compile stopped with missing "zlib.h". I'll send more patches if
required. :-)

Graphical rsync!
Hello,
Something very much resembling a graphical win32-based front-end for rsync
is available at http://sync2nas.sourceforge.net It is released under the
BSD license for all to enjoy.
A few caveats:
* It reportedly only works on WinNT/Win2K. Win9x is being looked into at
this time.
* It is written in Perl/Tk, although all portability conceits were
abandoned fairly early on, and it

I have found a list in which order the colors seems to be arranged.

Solaris / OpenSolaris
I'm having some difficulties pxe booting Solaris. So far I have tried
the mboot.c32, and the pxegrub shipped with Solaris. At first I had some
problems with blksize, but this disapeared when I changed from atftpd to
tftpd-hpa. The point at which I'm stuck now is, the kernel and
x86.microroot/x86.miniroot is loaded but then VMWare crashes. I might
try with real hardware, but I thought
