3Ware 9550SX and latency/system responsiveness
Dear list, I thought I'd just share my experiences with this 3Ware card, and see if anyone might have any suggestions. System: Supermicro H8DA8 with 2 x Opteron 250 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM installed. 9550SX-8LP hosting 4x Seagate ST3250820SV 250GB in a RAID 1 plus 2 hot spare config. The array is properly initialized, write cache is on, as is queueing (and supported by the drives). StoreSave

Offtopic: 3ware Raid Controllers
Hi! I know this is a little bit offtopic, but i couldn't think of any other place where i can get uninfluenced first hand information on these controllers :) I've read about and experienced data loss/system lockup with older 3ware controllers, but the 3ware Escalade 7xxx (i'm especially interested in the 7850) sounds too good to ignore it (8 channels, 8 drives, raid 0/1/5/10,

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

3Ware 9550SX-4LP Performance
I know there are a few 3Ware fans here and I was hoping to find some help. I just built a new server using a 3Ware 9550SX-4LP with four disks in raid 5. The array is fully initialized but I'm not getting the write performance I was hoping for -- only 40 to 45MB/Sec. 3Ware's site advertises 300MB/Sec writes using 8 disks on the PCI Express version of this card (the 9580 I think.)

Write performance with 3ware 9550
I have two identical servers. The only difference is that the first one has Maxtor 250G drives and the second one has Seagate 320G drives. OS: CentOS-4.4 (fully patched) CPU: dual Opteron 280 Memory: 16GB Raid card: 3ware 9550Sx-8LP Raid volume: 4-disk Raid 5 with NCQ and Write Cache enabled On the first server I have decent performance. Nothing spectacular, but good enough. The second one

Gluster 3.4 Samba VFS writes slow in Win 7 clients
Hello? We have used glusterfs3.4 with the lasted samba-glusterfs-vfs lib to test samba performance in windows client. two glusterfs server nodes export share with name of "gvol": hardwares: brick use a raid 5 logic disk with 8 * 2T SATA HDDs 10G network connection one linux client mount the "gvol" with cmd: [root at localhost current]# mount.cifs //192.168.100.133/gvol

3ware RAID controller scripts
Hello list, I see through the archives that some people here use 3ware RAID controllers with Centos. I have picked up two 9500S-4LP controllers for future servers. I was hoping that if some people could please share their 3ware monitoring scripts with the rest of the group. What I am really hoping to do is have some setup where a cron job runs scripts to test each of the drives connected to the

Getting kernel panic when installer starts formatting partitions. Was: How to get 3Ware 9500S controller card working in CentOS 3.1?
In regard of the e-mail sent on Jul/16/04 about the 3Ware 9500S. Has anyone experienced/solved this issue ?? I'm having a similar problem, I already have the system installed on a separate disk, now I want to make the filesystem on the RAID partition (using 3Ware 9500S-8). First I had the problem that the card will keep resetting after continous timeouts whenever I tried loading the

Poor gluster performance on large files.
Hi gluster users, I've spent several months trying to get any kind of high performance out of gluster. The current XFS/samba array is used for video editing and 300-400MB/s for at least 4 clients is minimum (currently a single windows client gets at least 700/700 for a single client over samba, peaking to 950 at times using blackmagic speed test). Gluster has been getting me as low as

3ware cards and new firmware in 9.4.1 codeset
I just saw the following in the release notes for the new firmware for the later 3ware cards; Improved CIFS performance The firmware has been tuned to greatly increase performance with CIFS (Common Internet File System) protocol. However, this has resulted in performance with the Linux ext3 file system that is slower than earlier releases. We recommend that you use other Linux file systems, such

3.10.5 vs 3.12.0 huge performance loss
It is sequential write with file size 2GB. Same behavior observed with 3.11.3 too. iozone remove_suid oops...
Having done a current checkout, creating a new FS and running iozone [1] on it results in an oops [2]. remove_suid is called, accessing offset 14 of a NULL pointer. Let me know if you''d like me to test any fix, do further debugging or get more information. Hello: Sorry for asking iozone ques in this mailing list but couldn't find any mailing list on iozone... In IOZone, is there a way to configure # of outstanding requests client sends to server side? Something on the lines of IOMeter option "Number of outstanding requests". Thanks a lot!

3Ware Escalade 9500S controller question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings folks, I'm currently redoing my home server as one of the hard drives in my RAID-1 array went down and I'm going to replace the lot of it with a 3Ware Escalade 9500S RAID capable card and four Seagate 200GB SATA drives. These drives are supposedly the coolest and quietest SATA drives available (better than the Maxtors I had anyway)

3Ware 9650SE tuning advice
Hello fellow sysadmins! I've assembled a whitebox system with a SuperMicro motherboard, case, 8GB of memory and a single quad core Xeon processor. I have two 9650SE-8LPML cards (8 ports each) in each server with 12 1TB SATA drives total. Three drives per "lane" on each card. CentOS 5.2 x86_64. I'm looking for advice on tuning this thing for performance. Especially for the

Poor gluster performance on large files.
Hi Brandon, Can you please turn OFF client-io-threads as we have seen degradation of performance with io-threads ON on sequential read/writes, random read/writes. Server event threads is 1 and client event threads are 2 by default. VM Performance using KVM Vs. VMware ESXi
Hi All We are currently testing our product using KVM as the hypervisor. We are not using KVM as a bare-metal hypervisor. We use it on top of a RHEL installation. So basically RHEL acts as our host and using KVM we deploy guests on this system. We have all along tested and shipped our application image for VMware ESXi installations , So this it the first time we are trying our application

ZFS and small block random I/O
Hi, We''re doing some benchmarking at a customer (using IOzone) and for some specific small block random tests, performance of their X4500 is very poor (~1.2 MB/s aggregate throughput for a 5+1 RAIDZ). Specifically, the test is the IOzone multithreaded throughput test of an 8GB file size and 8KB record size, with the server physmem''d to 2GB. I noticed a couple of peculiar

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone, I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the fact that the raid is transparent to the OS. Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this sort of usage? From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands: Red Hat Enterprise Linux
