Directory perms not visible from Properties|Security on clients
Samba 3.0.7, XP Pro SP1 clients
When I view the "Properties|Security" tab on a folder from my XP SP1
clients, the checkboxes indicating the various permission settings are
all empty.
The share is functioning fine otherwise, permissions are OK when
inspected from the Unix side.
Does anyone know a work around (or fix!)?
This came up back in 2003, without resolution:

Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when
writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on
the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem.
Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date)
Samba Logfile for Machine account is below.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Henrique are user, this user is in the list of administrators of the samba, but he is not administrator of the PDC (windows 2003).
It looks at the parameters below of smb.conf:

Everyone group difference between ACL/no ACLs.
Hello!
I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on top of a ext3 filesystem with ACLs enabled.

File copy error with Samba 2.2.x and 3.0/Novell/Win2k
Hello,
We're experiencing a problem with samba after an upgrade, which only occurs
when using a strange combination of software.
The problem only occurs with samba 2.2 and higher. This problem does not
occur with samba 2.0. We tested this with samba 3.0alpha17, 2.2.2,
2.2.4, and 2.0.10
First off, sticking to procedure, TESTs 1-11 as described in DIAGNOSIS.txt
succeed.

Close - but you haven't given me the name of the directory that
has zero permissions. I need the exact name of the directory
that ends up with mode 000.

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having,
which is:
No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba
(2.2.6) disk share. A user can open word and save a document to the
share, but when they go to edit the document Word says "Word cannot
complete the save due to a file permission error". From Microsoft KB

samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset - NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
OK, I've traced this a little further on now.
I think I have followed the trail via the following items that call or
refer to each other in turn:
- python samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset
- source3/smbd/pysmbd.c: SMB_VFS_FSET_NT_ACL( fsp, security_info_sent, sd);
- source3/include/vfs_macros.h:#define SMB_VFS_FSET_NT_ACL
smb_vfs_call_fset_nt_acl

Problem setting password: : failed to pull old supplementalCredentialsBlob: NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
Hello,
I am stuck with a error when setting password for a couple of specific
users. This error makes impossible to set the password for the affected
users.
In Windows I get an operation error but the samba-tool output is more
informative:
samba-tool user setpassword user2 --newpassword=

samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset - NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
Hi,
After making progress with my scripts for software installation (thanks,
Rowland!) I am on a bit of a mission to get things working again.
I found that permissions on my sysvol share were somehow incorrect (group
ownership was root, etc.) so I ran 'samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset'.. however
this now fails with the following error. (I'm on Samba 4.5.0)

saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

Then we grep for the message with "call_nt_transact_query_security_desc"

I saw a post similar to this suggesting that it was a NIC problem and
that it was in full duplex mode? Im not sure I could check this on a dos
client. any suggestions?

Online backup of domain fails
Oh sorry, I forgot that the offline option isn't in 4.9. It will be in
4.10 (release candidate should be available next week some time).
However, you have to run the offline command locally on the DC, and you
probably don't want to install a rc build on a production DC.
So when I set the DC's smb.conf debug level to 3, I see smbd logs like
the following when doing the sysvol portion

Hello,
I have a redhat 9 system with samba 2.2.8 as PDC, this worked fine for
almost a year. Since yesterday it is not possible to log on from the win2k
workstations with the error message that the given username/password is
wrong.
With the same username/password it possible to connect to the server from
win 98 machines.
I attached the log entries of smbd and nmbd direct after the unsuccsessfull

Smbd internal error and panic with nfs-mounted share
We're trying to share a directory that's mounted via NFS from another
server; when we connect to that share, smbd panics and tries to dump
core.
This is samba-3.0.30 on Alpha/Tru64-4.0G. The directory we're trying to
use is exported from a Linux box called sesfs (Centos 4.4) and
mounted on
the Alpha server via NFS as /sesfs/scratch. I've appended below an
