Same configs, different results
I am configuring two identical PDCs so that, if one goes down, the
other can start to serve logins.
The first PDC, a Debian 3.0 with Samba 2.999+3.0cvs20020723-1, works
fine.
The second PDC, that I bring up after killing manually smbd and nmbd
on the first one, is a Red Hat 7.3 with Samba compiled from the same
sources (but with gcc2.96 instead of 2.95) and the same smb.conf,
except for the

Fw: Samba 3.0-alpha 18 with ldapsam backend and primary gid of user?
Hi again,
I just wanted to add this to make my information more complete:
The id primary group id of user "eddie" in the ldap tree is 500:201.
201 is the group "Domain Users"
But you have to know that user "eddie" also excists with id and gid 500:500
in the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files.
Examining the log file below, this raises the following question to me:

Samba Version 3.0.9-1.3E.2 installed on Vanilla installation of CentOS
Users who log in are unable to install printers via a script like they
do in all of our other domains. The drivers have been installed properly
an rpcclient enumdrivers confirms this. When the user logs in, they are
assigned guest privileges, and I believe that this is what's preventing
the print install.

Problem with RID,SID and usrmgr
Hello,
First of all, I would like to say that this is my third attempt to make
Samba working as PDC. On the very beginning I had a problem with machine
account, but after group mapping and cleaning group maps, I was able to
add it from command line - using smbpasswd (according to this point, I
would like to ask: "machine" unix group is only allowed for machines? Am

Cannot set a "Domain group" membership with ldapSAM
Hello everybody!
I should have an error on the LDAP entries of my ldapSAM, but I've read
several times chapters 11 & 12 of the Samba HOWTO Collection and I
cannot fix it. Let's explain:
I've got a StandAlone fileserver (not PDC) samba-3.0.4 with ldapSAM
working on a RedHat Enterprise 3.0 (linux kernel 2.4.25). The directory
server version shouldn't be important, but

Samba 3.0-alpha 18 with ldapsam backend and primary gid of user?
Hello list,
Can someone tell me why I keep getting these kind of errors in the samba log
files?
I just went over from 2.2.5 to 3.0-alpha 18, I never had these errors in the
2.2.5 version.
Especially the rid [0] is a complete mistery to me since I have no account
defined in my ldap service that has rid 0.
Thank you very much for your help.
Eddie Lania.

Samba 3.0.12 (gid of user [joe] doesn't exist) Weird error when Client logs on.
Hi,
I just recently purchased a new server and took this opportunity to
upgrade to the latest version of samba (3.0.12). Unfortunatly, I have
some weird occurances. I have a user called "joe" who is my admin
user.
In /etc/passwd I have this:
joe:x:500:500:Joe:/home/joe:/bin/bash
In /etc/group I have this:
admin:x:500:joe
id returns correctly:
uid=500(joe) gid=500(admin)

Newbie to 3.0.1 and having problems
I have just upgraded from samba 2.2.7a to 3.0.1. For this upgrade I backed up my old
samba installation, installed the new configuration and copied over the contents of
the private directory which was secrets.tdb and smbpasswd. I ran testparm and
everything seemed fine so I run samba and H drives come back up perfectly.
I think I have 3 issues:

I noticed in /var/adm/messages that entries

new box can't join domain since switch to ldapsam
Hello,
Since changing to "passdb backend = ldapsam" on my debian unstable PDC
things work well, however a new winxp machine can't join the domain.
Here is the /var/log/samba/log.smbd output. It seems the sticking point
is about a missing user RID? (the new machine is sylla).
Thanks in advance for any hints as to what may be wrong, cheer,

Domain Admins
Hello All!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a domain admin problem and I'm stuck at a log
error msg. The log says the following:
