Query regarding Xapian-Matcher Optimisation Project, GSOC-2016
Hello Sir/Ma?am I beg to state that I was looking for a project In GSOC 2016 which matches my skill and passion, and I came across Matcher Optimisation, Xapian. This project has really captured my interest and I would love to contribute to this project. I am a computer engineering undergraduate so I am good at programming languages (especially C and C++), algorithms, logical and analytical

Restricting to a subset of the domain controllers on a site
Had a situation where users could not map drives from Windows XP to Solaris 9 system running Samba-3.0.10 for Active Directory. This system has been running for a couple of years without problems. Now recently, the site administrators have added some new servers to the domain which may have introduced a problem. This krb5.conf file has been modified to hide the site in question. [libdefaults]

Converting Number into Integer in ruby
I am working with a legacy oracle database. The primary key is not defined as an integer but as a number. This results in a url with an id as a number, such as 1234.0 instead of 1234. It works fine, but I would prefer 1234 to be displayed in the url. I have attempted to redefine the model id method to convert to an integer using to_i method, but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks, Vaibhav -- Posted via

->journal_info sharing
Hello, Stephen, It seem that in the presence of several jornalling file systems in the kernel some mechanism is needed for proper sharing of the ->journal_info pointer in the task_struct. One journalled file system can indirectly call another during page fault in copy_from_user, quota file modification, or __alloc_pages()->balance_classzone()->shrink_cache()->vm_writeback()

RH7.2 journal creation
Stephen et al, You may remember me raising the point that the new e2fsprogs (1.25 as I remember) griped about old journals not having all the appropriate fields zeroed. I've just discovered that the RH 7.2 installer produces journals (ie on partitions created as ext3 from within the installer) that flag these warnings with a modified 1.25 e2fsck (the mods being to clear the errors rather

ACLs under Samba 3.3.0
Is behavior of ACLs under Samba 3.3.0 (Sernet) completely different from that under version 3.2.7? The release notes only talks about some "fixes". I installed version 3.3.0 and got completely different result with the same filesystem and the exact same samba configuration. The ACLs behaved strangely and appeared very different under Windows ACL editor. Users were now unable to

external journal
Hello! I have some questions about external journals. On a 4 disk software RAID 5 I have two big devices (one 60 GB, one 180 GB). I would like to give each an external journal on a 2 disk software RAID 1 device and use data=journal. The journal will get its own partition with mke2fs -O journal_dev /dev/mdwhatever. The used 6 harddrives are all IDE drives, they are connected through

Citing R in journal articles (or the failure to)
Hi all I was reading a paper recently in which I was surprised to see an R package of mine obviously used, without acknowledgement. Indeed, R itself was used without any acknowledgment. So I contact the author about these issues, who said (in part): Regarding the R packages, I used the "tweedie" and "statmod" for my analyses as you pointed out. The referee of this paper

RE:How to decide mode and journal size?
Hi. I am using a large storage which is ext2 file system of 1T byte. It has many file types, doc, mail data, zip, etc. It doesn't have a database file. I want to change the file system from ext2 to ext3. It also can't divide to any partitions. How to decide journal mode and journal size? Please advice to me. Recommend a journal mode. ext3 on zvols journal performance pathologies?
I''ve been seeing read and write performance pathologies with Linux ext3 over iSCSI to zvols, especially with small writes. Does running a journalled filesystem to a zvol turn the block storage into swiss cheese? I am considering serving ext3 journals (and possibly swap too) off a raw, hardware-mirrored device. Before I do (and I''ll write up any results) I''d like to know

Recommended journal size for /boot
I want to convert the last of my filesystems to ext3. The only one left is /boot. It is not very big however, only about 10MB itself. Any recommendations on what size journal to put a /boot filesystem of only 10-20MB? Oh, BTW: "tunefs -j -J size=..." is awesome. No more gyrations with dd, chattr, lilo -R, etc. Nice! One note however: even in Stephen's 1.20.WIP.sct-20010216

max journal size
Hi all, Man page of tune2fs says that max journal size is 102,400 filesystem blocks, which translates to ~100MB with 1kb blocks or ~400MB with 4kb block. I wonder - why this limitation exists? Now that relatively cheap ssd devices exist (gigabyte iRam) that offer up to 4GB of space, it would be extremely useful to use whole capacity of such device for full data journaling. -- Jure Pe?ar
