When I encountered weird messages when trying to mount Samba shares on a Linux box the solution was to make sure I had the location of smbmount and smbmnt in my path. On RedHat 6.2 the path is /usr/sbin. I have not seen your exact error before though. Hope that helps. The source code seems to compile fine but when I try to join the NT4 domain I get a broken pipe error and it stops. The command I am using is smbpasswd -j (whatever) -r ( whatever) -U ( whatever).
