dfs replication
Hi, I am considering using the dfs options in samba. The question I have is about file replication. I want to set up dfs between two servers (one dfs share points to two real shares). In particular, I want have a share on one and a replica on the other as a fallback in the even of the first failing. I have done it on windows 2K server before. I am considering using rsync to replicate the files

Dfs - Load Balancing
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with using the Dfs functionality within Samba. I've been searching for any performance information and or documentation regarding Dfs in particular load balancing i.e. 1) How does it load balance? Is it some sort of round robin? 2) Is there a limit to the number of servers that can used in the load balance? 3) How many requests per

This flags2 value is 0xC803, and we need to see the 0x1000 bit on before we recognize that the client is interested in DFS pathnames. So now comes the tricky part...why is this client different

Re: No files seen when mount DFS roots [samba Digest, Vol 8, Issue 9]
In response to my original post under the heading "No files seen when mount[ing] DFS roots" I received one offlist response to the following effect: >It sounds like the smbfs Linux filesystem module does not handle MSDFS >links correctly. You might try the CIFS module avaliable at >http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/smbfs/ Before I assume this is the problem, I would

Restoring SYSVOL Replication After S4
I realize this is not a Samba specified quesiton... but I thought someone here might have some experience with this. After migrating from an purely S4 AD domain to a purely Windows 2008R2 AD domain one is left with no functioning SYSVOL replication (FRS or DFS). This makes sense as S4 is not aware of SYSVOL replication. So the question is how to bootstrap SYSVOL replication on a set of

Support of NTFRS, SYSVOL replication and DFS-R
When does File Replication using NTFRS or DFS-R will be availabe? Does anybody already work on this item? Here would be some first documentation for this team in case it hasn't started yet: - NTFRS: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc759297(v=ws.10).aspx - SYSVOL replication: http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/dd640019(v=ws.10).aspx - NTFRS migration to DFS-R:

Samba 4 and DFS replication
I realize that Samba 4 doesn't yet support DFS replication. But my question is if Samba 4 as an AD server supports DFS replication within the environment. For example, if all we have are Samba 4 servers for AD domain controllers, and we have 2+ Windows servers doing DFS between each other (where the Samba 4 file server isn't involved at all), is that supported?

DFS-R (Replication) ??
Hello, I read that replication with DFS-R requires NTFS filesystem on both sides, because it accesses the "change journal". (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773238%28v=ws.10%29.aspx) Can I use DFS-R between samba4 and windows if I use ntfs-3g? If not is it planned to support DFS-R in a future version of samba? thanks, Klaus -- Klaus Hartnegg, Universität Freiburg,

dfs problems in 3.0.25a after client reboot and remapping
We restored to 3.0.23d after update to 3.0.25a because of strange dfs behavior. the detailed situation: on msdfs root server 'samba' ls -lR dfsroot/: drwxr-xr-x appl1 dfsroot/appl1 lrwxrwxrwx share1 -> msdfs:server1\share1 [dfs] comment = "SaMBa DFS root" path = /path.../dfsroot # next line does not work prior 3.0.25 !!! # hide unreadable = Yes

DFS support in 2.2.0
With DFS server support in 2.2.0, are any utilities bundled so that the system can now act as a DFS client? (I was never able to get any Linux clients to mount DFS shares from an NT server with Samba 2.0 utilities, and never got an answer from other mailing lists whether DFS was supported by any Linux applications.) I thought there used to be a "samba server RPM" and "samba client

Samba 3.0.13 DFS problem
Hi, After upgrading Samba to version 3.0.13, we had the following problem wit our DFS root share: From WinXP SP2 clients, we were unable to open *.exe en *.htm(l) files by browsing through our DFS tree. We had no problems with *.doc and *.xls files. Error messages: "cannot find file ..." for htm files "cannot get acces to the device, path or file..." for .exe files. Files

WinXP DFS problems, debugging with dfsutil.exe
Hello Johan, I'm having the same problems with DFS and WinXP clients since I upgraded to 2.2.8. I tried to clear the cache on the client side with dfsutil.exe that comes with the Win2000 SP2 but to no avail. Can anyone else confirm this problem? It's also strange that on the WinXP clients the version of the samba server is still registered as a previous version (2.2.6 or 2.2.7).

Can't follow DFS link
Hi, I am using 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06. I'm trying to setup a DFS root. Here is the smb.conf share section: [test] path=/var/test writable=yes msdfs root=yes The /var/test contains a single symlink: $ ls -l /var/test total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2007-05-22 14:56 pdf -> msdfs:cladms004\pdf On a Win2K client I can connect to \\cladms004\pdf successfully. 2.2.3a PDC Win2K Citrix Profiles
This weekend I upgraded SAMBA from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3a then made it the PDC on our LAN. Original PDC was an NT4 Server. There is a Win2K Server running Citrix Metaframe-XP, and the old NT4 PDC Server was replaced with another Win2K Server to be the Database Server. I didn't want to bother with setting Win2K up as a DNS and DFS/ADS Server (required for being a PDC), so selected to make SAMBA the

DFS questions...
I have been looking into DFS (no R) with Samba and found the page https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distributed_File_System_(DFS) and do have some questions: ?There is currently (July 2014) a discussion in the mailing list in which several users report great difficulties with domain-based DFS in samba 4, maybe related with the implementation of smb protocol version 3.? ? is this still true or has

DFS not working w/ fully.qualified.sub.domain
Hi: I've got a samba/DFS server configured that works fine under it's original name, but I'm getting booted out of that DNS domain, into a subdomain. All my (WinXP) clients have drives mapped to names like \\server.domain.com\dfsroot. If I browse to the path, \\server.domain.com\dfsroot, everything works. I can access the shares pointed to via the dfs links But, now the network is

Domain DFS on new share
Hi, I am trying to configure domain DFS (I think that's the correct term) as below, using the guide on the wiki: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distributed_File_System_(DFS)#Configure_domain-based_DFS_in_Samba I am aware that the wiki says that this doesn't quite work... however it feels to me that it's very close, nearly working, and I might be able to get it going (hopefully?!)
