smbd is running!
After uninstalling VMware, smbd is running! It seems that installing VMware has side-effects on Samba. Thanks to everyone who sent me suggestions. xiaobing _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

ppp interfaces for both loc and net
Hi, I''m in a process of setting up a firewall system, which is going to be also an ipsec/l2tp and pptp vpn server for some mobile clients. The problem is, that the system has two ISPs a cable one (no problems here) and a DSL provider. Because of the DSL provider the system is going to have one pppN interface for DSL (net zone) and many pppX interfaces for l2tp/pptp (loc zone)

Windows XP slow with samba-2.2.7 from RH7.3
Hi. I posted last week a question about a network with some XP PCs. One PC connects fine to the samba server, but the other one is quite slow, almost unusable. There are also Win98 hosts running fine. Someone kindly answered he had the same problem, and solved it upgrading to samba-3 beta. I can't put beta software on this server. Do I have any other option ? Here is an extract of the

XP home edition and Home share
I can't get the XP home edition on my network to accept "net use H: /home". It works on my Win2000 box. I am running samba 2.2.5 Is this a limitation on the home edition? Is there a work round? The command net user %username% /DOMAIN for a valid username does return data which includes the path to the home share, so I can't see why it should not work. David Lee

I can't seem get the %u or %U variable to work. I am trying to map a drive letter via the login.bat script file for each user that authenticates to the domain, however it seems to strip the

Samba 2.2.7a - adduser script only worked the first time
I have WinXP machines loging into a samba domain. I am using this add user script: add user script = useradd -d /dev/null -g 300 -s /bin/false -M %u This worked beautifully with the first WinXP machine I set up. I immediately booted up a second machine and got the "Access Denied" error. I have tried two more computers since and keep getting the same thing but the first machine still

Samba4 for AD using existing LDAP, Kerberos, and Bind Setup.
We run Apple's OD to support our Linux, Mac, and Windows clients and servers. We are under pressure to use AD because more and more software coming out for Windows requires it. We don't want to use AD, so Samba4 looks good. However, we don't want to pull apart our directory to implement samba4. Is there a way to get Samba 4 running so that it is able to use the existing LDAP and

security
I have a user who was having problem accessing samba. So I suggested him to try to login from other system to see if it's problem with his pc or his account. Then he found that when he used other person's PC, it didn't ask for password at all and gave full access to his account! The two person's accounts are totally different. Any idea? Thanks. --

XCP XenAPI fencing script (clustering support)
Hi, I think this would be the best forum, let me know if not. I am in the middle of writing fencing scripts for Citrix XenServer virtual machines (specifically for use with Redhat Clustering, but will also work from pacemaker etc) and I noticed that XCP uses the same XenAPI (from what I can tell). Just wondering if someone would be able to test the scripts on XCP and let me know if they work.
