Changing passwords under Win2K/WinXP (Samba 2.2.6)
G'day all...
Has anyone had any success in achieving the above, without requiring the
user to run smbpasswd on the samba server?
On the client machine (2000 or XP) when I press ctrl-alt-del and attempt
to change the password I get the error "The User name or old password is
incorrect..."
I need to keep things as simple as possible for my users, they're not
highly computer

SWAT, where ?
Hi there... first I apologise for being dim...
Where can I download SWAT from ? I've looked on the Samba.org site but it
only tells me that the demo page is off-line and no more info.
Idiot proof instructions for installing it on RH 7.2 would be handy too :-)
Thanks

RPC protocol error with one user on login (64 bit svr 2003 client - samba 3.0.14a PDC)
This user is attemting to log in on a win2003 64 bit client to a PDC
running 3.0.14a.
The user is able to log on on another machine (32 bit, I don't have
another 64 bit machine)
There was a local user with the same username but that user was deleted
after adding the machine to the domain.
I cannot see an error in a level 5 log from the client.
I see nothing in the windows event log.

RE: Browsing cont'd
Don't forget to add the #PRE after the host info; that way it preloads it.
Create one lmhosts file for the Win boxes, and copy to either
\windows (win9x)
\winnt\system32\drivers\etc (NT/Win2k/XP)
then open a DOS Prompt and type nbtstat -R to flush/refresh
the cached info.
The samba box's hosts go in /etc, /lmhosts go in /etc/samba
(if you're using the current defaults. Put the

Admin user
I want to create a user "samba" that has admin privileges over the
directory where Win95 apps will be installed, but does not have
root privileges.
Are their any problems with doing so?
Thanks,
Carey

After a thorough google and marc search i'm shocked to find
this problem unmentioned...
How does one go about changing the windows password from a unix machine
with no physical access to the windows machine sharing things?
samba 2.2.3a (debian woody)
windows2000 server
thanks!

note: here's my latest attempt. I tried this with and without a -c
parameter

typical performance on 10mbit switched network
I've never been happy with my samba box's network performance.....
I see about
60K/s between
1 client and my samba server
the load average on the server is nearly 0
and it's reading from an ide raid5
so i don't think that's a bottleneck.
I'm running samba 2.2.7 with
  socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192
SO_SNDBUF=8192
and log level 2

logging by name and ip address in 3.0a21
Does anybody else see two sets of logs with
log file = /var/log/samba/log.smbd.%m ?
i get both logs like
log.smbd.192.168.0.3
and
log.smbd.testpc
when testpc has the ip address 192.168.0.3
I've tried %M and with no obvious effect
thanks

roaming profile fails with NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
i'm running (well trying to run) samba3a20-4 from debian
with sam backend = ldapsam_nua:ldap://localhost/
when i try to log in I get a message saying that the roaming profile has
the wrong permissions. There is no profile in place for this user... it
should be created from the netlogon share (which was copied to netlogon
via the system control panel with "everybody" given permission

There is something very strange going on with new users...
i've created a new user using the smbldap-tools
creation goes fine...
smbldap-useradd -a -g labusers -G power_users -n -c 'test user' -m -P
testuser
I've set the password and i see this in my ldap dir:
ldapsearch -x -D cn=ldapadmin,dc=bitc,dc=unh,dc=edu -W

Should be easy-printing problem rest of Samba works
Hi list. I've just got Samba up and running as a fileserver just
fine. Now I'm trying to use it as a printserver using CUPS. I can see
said printer via Network Neighborhood on XP boxes and add it in Windows
but no print jobs complete. No errors in Windows yet no printing start
on the printer. Would this be a question of spool permissions? Right
now I'm using spool

swat seems broken in HEAD
it just says
/usr/sbin/swat.new
Aborted
when i run it from the command line.
nothing i can see in the logs...
The swat binary from a 2 week old head now
(with the rest of the installation from today's head)
seems to work okay.
what's going on with swat - did i screw up the build?
Are others also having problems? (nothing in the marc)
