NULL sessions - Listing shares anonymously - restrict anonymous
Hi,
I am running 2.2.5 and I would like to know if the
"restrict anonymous" as been implemented correctly, as it was supposed
to behave from the start, in order to deny
ALL anonymous connections as stated in the man :
"When restrict anonymous is yes, all anonymous connections are denied no
matter what they are for."
Ive been reading some dev mailing lists and someone said

Build problem - 2.2.7 (latest)
I'm trying to build samba 2.2.7 (latest tarball) downloaded about 2

System is SunFire 3800, Solaris 8 (Generic_108528-16) and gcc 3.2

how to mount another persons home dir when using [homes]
Dear list.
Using samba 3.0.2, exporting home directories to drives using [homes].
Suppose this scenario: an employee falls ill. Someone else has to take over
this persons work. I want to give this NEW person access to the ill person's
home directory. Homedirectories shares are created at logon time. Meaning
that the share for the ill person currently does NOT exist (as he or she is

A user named homes and homedir mounting
I run a pretty large network, we have plenty of users. Most of our users
have their windows home directories on Samba servers.
One of these many users has the username "homes".
This user is unable to map their home directory (\\sambaserver\homes).
It seems that this could be a conflict between the "homes" share definition
and his username and samba getting confused.

upgrade 3.0.1 -> 3.0.2, problem with homes-share
Hi!
We are using Samba 3 in SuSE-linux 8.2 with ldap.
After upgrading from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 we got following problem:
When users log-in homes-share is not allways reachable, so automatic
homedrive-mapping and roaming profiles doesn't work. This doesn't happen
everytime, but quite often.
And after login users can map their homedrives manually.
Users have following attributes in LDAP

homes-share broken in 3.0.2! any fix or workaround available?
hi,
I ran also into the home share problem, as discussed earlier in this list
(http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-February/080593.html). But so far
I haven't seen any solution.
In samba 3.0.2 changelog is a line: "BUG 977: Don't create a homes share for
a user if a static share already exists by the same name." I don't know what
was changed, but it affected the

"Add user script" option never running?
Hi all,
I'm using the latest alpha version (the one that comes with Debian
unstable) in domain mode, setting up a member file server, with domain
clients authenticating to a W2k machine.
I'm trying to use the "add user script" option to create new users
automagically, but it never seems to run. The script in this case is a
handwritten perl script, and I've added a

Comments / suggestions wanted - Winbind, 2K, and user Homes
I have a single AD domain with 4 domain controllers (win2k-not native mode). I want all
users to login to AD (clients from 98 to XP - no linux clients yet).
This is a school network with 4 campuses connected by wireless links (hence the 4 domain
controllers) and I would like to put a samba server at each location for student home
directories (basically a NAS setup to start with). There will

Samba 3 home dirs not going.
Hi all.
Sorry for a long email, but I am really lost here and need to fix this ASAP.
I have just upgraded a samba server to the current Samba 3.0.0 binary for
Redhat 9. This has fixed an issue I was having with 2.2.7 and 2.2.8 just dying
with no errors, but I have a new problem now and I cant work it out.
User's Home directories are showing up in the list of shares (as expected) but

Homes on differents servers...
Hi list,
I read the samba doc but i didn't find any answer to my problem, maybe
you can help me or just point me where to find the solution. That would
be very appreciated.
Our company has three offices in different cities plus a head office.
All of those office are linked using VPNs. For now, we have a domain at
the head office using samba3 as a PDC, a master LDAP server for

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as
pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of
restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is
this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share,
put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without
going through any

Making winbindd and pam_mount play nice together (2nd try)
We're trying to set up linux based workstations that use a win2k AD/DC for
authentication, and pam_mount to mount a share as the user's home directory.
It looks like winbind isn't passing on the credentials (although it is
getting us logged in). If anyone has made this work, I'd love the details.
It looks like winbind isn't passing the auth information

Limit on name size for cloned home directories?
hello,
I'm running Samba 2.2.5 and we recently went through a user login format
change. We have the "security = user" option and when the home
directories are cloned with the username (firstname.lastname), only
those users with less than 12 characters in their login are able to
click on their user named folder.
The temporary work around is to have long-named users click on the

problems using challenge-auth with winbind
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a squid with ntlm authentification, and as I
follow the instructions I read in the squid FAQ I run into this problem.
When I try to do a ``wbinfo -a <domain>\\<user>%<passwd>'' the process
tells me that the authentification did not succeded (both, plaintext
passwords authentification and challenge/response password
authentification). This

Seperate servers for home directory space and logins
I'm trying to run the PDC for my domain on a seperate server from the
home directory space. Also, I want each user to be able to FTP in with
their domain username and password and access files in their home
directory and only -their- home directory.
It seems that I would need a seperate linux account for every user on
the home directory server in order to fulfill my FTP requirement. Then

Im running debian 3 woody using kernel 2.2.x and samba 2.2.7. When I try to
join the box to my ADS using smbpasswd -j DOM -r DOMPDC -Uusr%pass it says
"Unknown parameter encountered: "ads server"". It also says "Unknown
parameter encountered: "realm"". Then it says that it'll ignore those lines.

Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again:
I am using tdbsam as passdb backand.
I have added root user with pdbedit.
The machine trust account was added on the fly.
I have added the user with pdbedit.
I have created the user in /etc/passwd.
When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed
that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it
