Live CD problems
Hi, I'm trying to repair a remote system using the Live CD. I have VPN access to the subnet where it lives. An onsite person is booting from cd, and running a small script I provided to tweak the default firewall rule set to allow incoming ssh, and set a password for the centos user and start sshd so far so good I can remotely access the system. the problem is the live cd environment is

On Hold music
This may sound kind of crazy and I maybe missing something. But are you placing the call on hold so you can hear the hold music. This may not be the case but you may have to place the call on hold to here the music. Also you mentioned sound, you do not need a sound card in the asterisk box to use this hold music feature. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From:

Using CentOS Live CD to recover trashed RHEL system
Hi, There's a RHEL5 system somewhere across the internet with a trashed root file system. I have VPN access to the subnet where it lives. But the system is not talking to the network. The current plan is having an onsite person boot from a CentOS Live CD, copy a small script to configure networking, set a password for the centos user, start sshd, and tweak the default firewall to allow

T1 Timing Slips
Does anyone know how to monitor * to see if they are receiving timing slips on a span connected to a T100P card? I am seeing b-channel restarts quite often and also getting "No D-channels available" warnings from time to time. Yesterday I had all the b-channels crash during a MeetMe Conference. Not good! This PRI is connected to an Avaya Definity PBX that is onsite and located in the

Asterisk/app_rpt and bandwidth
Hello to the list, I have a question about Asterisk/app_rpt: When a signal is *not* being received and or transmitted by the radio system attached to Asterisk/app_rpt via its interface, is the incoming and or outgoing data suppressed (silence suppression)? In other words! At idle but still connected to some other device, what data will be transferred? I currently don't have access to a

Needed - Asterisk Consulting
A customer contacted us today concerning getting a VoIP to PSTN system with a few IP Phones setup. Asterisk should fit his needs. It is not a big job, but I think that this customer is going to need onsite work. Please contact me off list if you are an interested reseller in the Washington, DC area. Sangoma FXO/FXS cards?
Saw an ad in the latest Linux Journal for Sangoma's FXO/FXS analog cards. it was part of an ad for a reseller. I can't find anything on the resellers site or Sangoma's site either. Did the ad jump the gun or someting? Is this for real? Paul -- Paul Dugas, Computer Engineer Dugas Enterprises, LLC paul@dugas.cc phone: 404-932-1355 522 Black Canyon Park

Iptables hangs at shutdown
Hi all- I have a Centos 3.6 server in production that hadn't been rebooted in quite some time. I was finally onsite today and took the chance to reboot into the most current kernel, but the box hung while "stopping iptables". Some Googling led me to one or two reports of systems hanging while the iptables initscript unloaded the modules. Has anyone else encountered this?

Best USB Handset and Softphone Combination
I have a client that want to try the softphone with USB handsets route to see if hardphones will even be needed. I always push for hardphones (Polycom) so I am not sure about softphones or USB handsets. This is going to be for a 300+ seat call center onsite and many offsite, I plan on using OpenVPN for the offsite machines. Any advice on softphones, handsets, or practical experience with

problems with icecast/ices
This is a very general email message. Please don't flame me on lack of information. I don't often get a chance to get into the building where this computer is located and unfortunately had turned logging off on the icecast server to avoid it ever writing to disk. The problem: Simply put, I have an icecast server on Linux that uses ices that needs to stream a signal 24/7 without

Voicetronix vs Digium FXO
One of the suggestions I got for dealing with my analog FXO woes was to look into using a Voicetronix card instead of the Digium. They're more expensive but if it worked better it may be reasonable. They indicated they were compatable with the CVS HEAD version of *. Can someone share with me their experiences with Voicetronix OpenLine and/or OpenSwitch cards with *? I'm specifically

ATA shootout: PAP2T versus Grandstream Handytone 286
I'm considering a situation where I buy about twenty ATA devices. I've played with the Linksys / Cisco PAP2T, and got that working fine with some inbound and outbound faxing. The web GUI was okay. I'm seeing prices around $45 to $50 for this thing. It comes with two FXS ports, but I only need one FXS. I've seen the Grandstream Handytone 286 online. It looks promising as an

Suitable for Dynamic IVR Platform?
New to asterisk so please be gentle. I'm guessing I'm among a number of recent additions to the list after the article in Linux Mag. I gotta say I'm *very* intersted in the project and will be doing lots of reading shortly. A couble quick questions first... How suitable is Asterisk for use as an IVR providing callers with textual data out of a database? Can it be combined easily

Using //server/share%username ?
I'm trying to get win9x clients to connect to a Samba 2.0.4b server on FreeBSD 3.2-STABLE. Some of these machines have Windows logins different from the Unix user on the server, and the smb.conf manpage suggests that the "share%username" hack should be used in this case. This seems to work fine on my old 1.9.18p8 server, but not on any of the newer ones. With debug level 5 I see
