Long Share Names and Windows NT Workstation 4.0
Hello, Can anyone advise if there is a limit on the length of share names in Samba when accessing via NT Workstation 4.0 clients? It seems that the limit is 12 characters for NT, our Windows 98, 2000 and XP machines work with longer share names. If so does anyone know if there is a patch to make long share names work with NTWS 4.0? Best regards, Keith

AD group membership limits?
Hi, I'm running Samba 3.0.11 on RedHat ES 3 kernel version 2.4.21-15.0.4.ELsmp and have a quick question about AD group membership limits Am I right in assuming that Samba is limited by the group membership parameters (ie NGROUP = 32) imposed by the Linux kernel? Is there any workaround in Samba for this? At the moment if a user is a member of more then 32 domain groups they cannot access

We currently have approximately 120,000 files (and growing) under business related shares under our current Pathworks environment. With being in the process of transferring over to SAMBA we need to ensure that all the files are viewable. It may be advisable to split these shares across several disks on our UNIX

FW: Samba config
Further to my last post I decided to BUY a copy Suse 9.1 including Samba 3. Not only was Suse very easy to setup I managed to get Samba up and running without too many problems and can now print from Windows clients via Samba. My only remaining challenge is setting up point and print. Thanks for the responses. Regards, Chris Christopher Moss Murray McIntosh O'Brien Wellesley House 204

Numbers that look equal, should be equal, but if() doesn'tsee as equal (repost with code included)
Try the following function (the name is supposed to be a joke, by the way), which will also do the right thing with NAs and characters. Use it as if(equal.enough(x,y)) rather than if(x==y), e.g. > equal.enough(0.1+0.2, 0.3) [1] TRUE My default of 15 significant figures may be overkill in many applications; be prepared to reduce this. Disconnected Drives Reconnecting but red cross remains on share problem with clipart
When I last posted the email below the reconnect issue did not seem to be causing any problems, we have subsequently had some users reporting that they cannot open clipart. This only seems to happen when the red cross is displayed, if users perform a:- ? NET USE H: /D ? which removes the drive then they preform a:- ? Issue listing hosts with SMBCLIENT
Hi, We recently upgraded from samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.2 (RH package, 3.0.2-6.E3) on a Linux (RHES3) server, and have had a few weird things start happening. I've set up samba on this machine as a local master = yes, preferred master = yes, domain master = yes, an os level of 60 (as it was set up previously), and things were working fine. After a week or so however, it started loosing browser
