LOGIC ERROR in smbd locks system...
Hello,
i have a little problem here:
Using Samba 2.2.2 with IBM ClearCase (2003) on a Sun Solaris 8 machine (2
cpus, 4G ram) (IBM does not support Samba 3.0 with Clearcase, maybe Samba
3.0 will fix the problem, but not able to test it yet). There are more than
100 smbd processes running in average. Load average of the maschine: under
1.0 in normal operation.
But from time to time there are

dear all,
the following problem occurs periodically (appr. once a week) here:
the number of smbd(s) will dramatically rise (up to 500 and more...)
when having a look what the proccesses are doing i only see that they
are waiting for getting a lock:
fcntl64(4, F_SETLKW64, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=240, len=1}, 0xbfefa5c0) = 0
filedescriptor 4 is bound to my secrets.tdb !

Failed to set socket option problems Samba 2.0.6/Solaris 7
I am seeing the following errors under Samba 2.0.6/Solarisy 7.
I saw discussions of this on the Samba list but couldn't find any resolution.
I saw the following message from Jeremy Allison

Unexpected "Access Denied"
Background:
This situation is using Rational ClearCase in a situation with server on
Solaris 10
and clients on a mixture of Windows XP and Windows 7, with access to the
VOB (repository) enabled via Samba version: 3.4.9
Users are getting a consistent error with a specific ClearCase operation
(Add to Source Control), which we have traced to a Samba interaction.
The issue:

Register Name with nmbd fails after network move
Hello,
I am new to SAMBA. Originally, the WIN server and the SAMBA server
were located in the same subnet. After the migration of the Microsoft end
users subnet to 10.32.12.x, the SAMBA server is no longer able to seem
by the Windows clients in 10.32.12.x. The following is the error indicated
at /usr/local/samba/var/log.nmbd. I appreciate if anyone can guide me to
resolve the problem.

clearcase and samba
FYI:,
I'm fairly new to samba (a couple of months now), and have experimented -
unsuccessfully - with getting it
to work with clearcase. Does anyone have a how-to, or a list of gotcha's for
setting up clearcase with samba?
Thanks in advance for any information you can send me.

aliases for "share Definitions"
Hi
I have NT4 clients that have problem accessing my share:
[ccview1_view02] (Because it's more then 8 character long)
I would like to add an alias in this entry. Does anyone know if this is
possible?
I know I could do like this:
[ccview1_view01]
comment = Views on ccase cluster
guest ok = no
path = /export/ccview1_view01
directory mask = 0775
create mask = 0775

Problems with Winbind Idmap and Active Directory 2008 r2
For our Linux Machines (SLES 10) we are using kerberos and LDAP to
authenticate against Active Directory (works perfectly)
Please note that the same configuration works with Windows 2003 Server, the
problem is with with Windows 2008 Server
However we are experiencing problems with winbind for the file share, I see
in the "log.winbind-idmap" logfile the following errors

Too many open files when using clearcase
FYI:
I'm using samba 2.0.6 for clearcase interoperation between Unix and NT,
and while it works
great 99% of the time, I run into a problem whenever I do a complete build
on an NT system,
which involves compiling ~1500 files. The first 1100 or so are compiled
correctly, but then the following
errors show up on the NT box:
The system cannot open the
device or file specified.

Hi all, Jeremy,
after trying to add kernel oplocks = no I got the same errors as describes
in my last post.

This is what happens in the log file:

Hi Alexander,
Not sure if this of any help, but we had a similar problem with runaway
SMBDs and what seemed to be oplocks. We are running RH6.2 with 0.7.26 ACLs.
After much messing around and hassling Jeremy, I eventually changed the
kernel from 2.2.19 to 2.2.20 and recompiled everything from scratch. Since
then we have not had one of these rogue processes.
I think Jeremy was right when he

Samba suddenly going nuts!
Hello,
we're running 2.2.1a on a production server. Lately, it's been giving
us troubles. Monday mordning, this moring, and 2 times more during
today, samba stopped responding to all requests from Windows (2000)
clients. This has happened once before a week ago, and once several
weeks ago. Today it seems to be getting much worse.
If left un-attended the system will eventually run out of

OH DEAR! - RE: 2.2.2 runaway SMBD process
Jeremy,
Bit of bad news - we had a another runaway SMBD. This time profiles were
NOT involved - I was simply copying up an installation of Office2000 and
then deleting it. It almost reached the end of the deletion when the
processor utilisation went up to 90%. The client connection then dropped
with a 'connection is no longer available' and there is now 99% processor
utilisation on the

Errors after building 3.0.21b on AIX 5.2
I have seen a lot of recent posts about building on AIX 5.2, 5.3, etc.
but none showed the same problems I am having.
After building Samba 3.0.21b on AIX 5.2, I get this error when running a
number of the binaries:

errors:

Unable to join domain: FAIDHC01SDCG0402
Hi.
I am trying to configure Samba in Domain security mode. I am on a Sun box running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.23.
A computer account for this Unix Box is configured in the AD Domain (FAFIDDOM) but I am having issues running net rpc join. I am not planning to use winbind as the samba shares that I want to create are going to be used by ClearCase (Rational Configuration Management Tool). ClearCase

Help with compile on HP-UX 11.0
I'm having quite a bit of trouble with 2.2.7a and HP-UX 11.0. I've attempted
to compile (configure && make) with aCC (aCC: HP ANSI C++ B3910B A.03.13),
and gcc versions 2.95.1, and 3.2. (A few others as well, but that's not,
perhaps, relevant here.) Let's assume I'm using gcc 2.95.1. The first
configure error I see in config.log is:
