Re: administrator privileges
I experienced the following problem with an apparent permissions Catch-22 where there's no "root" user to bootstrap from with Samba-LDAP, and found several other people experienced it too. I eventually figured out why a few people are plagued by this problem while most have never seen it, and I solved it. For everyone else who experiences a similar problem, the explanation and

domain admin
Hi ! I'm desperately looking for an answer here... I've been fighting all week-end with samba-3.0 and there's still something I can't do... Basically: how can I add some of my users to the Domain admin group ? I use FreeBSD-5.1+samba3.0RC3. My group maps: Admins du domaine (S-1-5-21-xxxx-512) -> domainadmins Utilisa. du domaine (S-1-5-21-xxxx-513) -> domainusers Invites du

adding machines to the domain with Samba 3.0.0
Is there something special I need to do to let root add computers to the domain in 3.0? When I try to add the workstation I get an error about 'user not found' even though I can logon to a workstation joined to the domain as 'root'. I was able to add computers to the domain with 2.2.8 with an 'add user command' entry and 'domain admin group = root' in my

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 - Domain Controller unreachable
OK, I've tried commenting the line out. Ran /etc/init.d/samba reload, but no change. Should I try a full server reboot then? Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 - Domain Controller unreachable
OK, I'm rebooting the server now. Removed that line first. SELinux and App Armour are not installed on the servers. Tested with the firewall down (iptables), ulimit is not being reached, still lots of memory and hard drive space available... Since it's the weekend, no one else is in the building except for me. Steam Installation Errors
Hey guys, I'm sure that this question has already been answered. If so, could someone direct me to the answer. The problem is that, steam.exe cannot access the Internet. My Internet service is fine, and I have not had any problems with steam accessing the Internet in the past. The problem only started a few days ago, and I am not sure what the cause is. I have tried basically everything. I

@Sonic # /etc/init.d/samba restart [ ok ] Restarting nmbd (via systemctl): nmbd.service. [ ok ] Restarting smbd (via systemctl): smbd.service. [ ok ] Restarting samba-ad-dc (via systemctl): samba-ad-dc.service. I may try rebooting as well, after trying @penny's fix. But that's what I've always been doing. When I use systemctl start nmbd smbd I get no output. On Sat, Apr 2, 2016 at

Interesting zfs destroy failure
Saw this while writing a script today -- while debugging the script, I was ctrl-c-ing it a lot rather than wait for the zfs create / zfs set commands to complete. After doing so, my cleanup script failed to zfs destroy the new filesystem: root at kronos:/ # zfs destroy -f raid/www/user-testuser cannot unshare ''raid/www/user-testuser'': /raid/www/user-testuser: not shared root

Installing windows drivers into print$ on OS X 10.5 Leopard
Has anyone had any success installing windows printer drivers onto a leopard-hosted print$ share? If I use the Add Printer Wizard method, if copies the driver files to \ \SERVER\print$\W32X86 then fails with an "Operation cannot be completed." If I use the rpcclient method I get a WERR_INVALID_PARAM error. Using the Adobe Generic PostScript driver as an example.

Mysterious connection disappearances
I installed a samba server about a week ago for a client and have been having some trouble with it. The two problems that occur are: 1. The "Microsoft mail postoffice" occasionally has files with deny_all locks on them that prevent other users from sending email to the user. My first impression was that this was an Outlook issue, but rebooting the entire (client) computer does not
