Indirect routing issue?
Hi there,
I am experiencing an annoying but not critical issue with (I think)
tinc's internal routing. My setup is this:
HostA (local. ConnectTo = HostC)
HostB (geographically close. ConnectTo = HostC)
HostC (far away. ConnectTo = nothing)
Without tinc, pings from HostA to HostB take around 10ms, and from
HostA/B to HostC around 200ms.
With tinc, pings from HostA to HostB take nearly

Win2k and PDC logon.
Dear Samba Experts.
I an quite new to samba but know the basics of creating chares and
permissions, I think!!! Been digging into HOWTO for pdc logon using
windows boxes.
Having great difficulty in getting win2k to complete and logon to a samba
2.2.5 PDC configuration. Win98 is ok and runs the logon scripts as
required. I have attached the smb.conf used and can confirm the directory

Logon to SAMBA
Hi,
I have installed the samba-1.9.17p3 on our
Solaris 2.5.1 (named 'dor-ent1') and Linux (named 'iserver').
They work when I test out 'smbclient -L dor-ent1' from
Linux machine and vice-versa. I also can map the directories
on 'dor-ent1' or 'iserver' to my win95 machine using:
'net use * \\dor-ent1\tmp'.

browser problem
The browsing capability in Network Neighborhood disppears periodically.
Usually, double-clicking on Network Neighborhood gives us a list of all
the NT and Unix/samba boxes on the network segment (i.e. in the
Workgroup). When browsing disppears, all we see is *Entire Network*,
which has nothing in it.
We run a unix/NT network with 6 unix servers and about 80 NT clients. We

currently no logon servers available to service logon request
Hi all,
My Samba server with winbind in an NT4 domain ran fine for a year, now this
message is all we get from the windows side.
Can it be because it is not listed in the WINS?
Whe I look at it from Svrmgr in NT then it says access denied.
The same happens using net view
Why does it not register with the WINS server?
If I configure Samba as a wins server - will it run together with an NT WINS

"logon path" and "logon home" settings return different values in 3.0.13?
When exactly did the samba meaning/returns for "logon path" and "logon
home" change? (at which version?)
We used to have a system that appeared to be working well and it was as
follows
logon script = logon.bat
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U
logon drive = h:
logon home = \\%L\%U\.profile
domain logons = Yes
and the [profiles] share had the following

Can't seem to change "logon script = logon.bat"
Hello,
I am running RedHat 8 and have the same problem with both the distributed
and updated samba RPMS (2.2.5 -> 2.2.7) and the source dist (2.2.8a).
I can seem to change many options but the "logon script = logon.bat"
doesn't want to change. This is what I have in my smb.conf file :
[global]
...some stuff...
logon script = %U.bat
logon drive = H:

logon drive, ldap ssl = start_tls, ssh and client/server encryption (and logon.bat permission tip)
Dear list,
More questions on my PDC travels ;-)
1. Is it ok, with roaming profiles on, to leave "logon drive = "
empty, as this drive seems to be confusing users?
2. All my ldap stuff is using tls, and I just want to confirm that
"ldap ssl = start_tls" is looking in /etc/ldap.conf for certificate
locations etc.?
3. Is all traffic between Windows clients and the Samba

bug: inconsistent handling of workgroups > 15 chars leads to failed master browser elections
hi,
when i give samba a workgroup name with more than 15 characters [the
limit for netbios names], nmbd is unable to participate in browse master
elections. it appears that parts of internal samba code honor 16
characters and parts only honor 15.
details:
i used a workgroup name of nodomain.nowhere, 16 characters, on samba
2.2.1a. the samba box was the only member of this workgroup on the

how to get logon.bat run with Administrator rights in domain logons?
On win XP Pro workstations it would be so convenient if the domain logon script which is stored on
the samba pdc could be made to run with Administrative (or System) privileges.
I know that I can interactively run another security context by choosing "run as user" but how could
I achieve this non-interactively and domain wide whilst a "limited account" is loggin in?
Thanks

Samba WINS Server losing all elections against
Hello everybody.
I've been trying for weeks to find a solution for my problem, but since
I couldn't find anything, here I am.
I manage a network of about 200 PCs, 90% windows XP and Vista, 10% linux.
A samba server is located on the main server, acting as a WINS server,
to manage the list of connected computers.
However, when a resident computer is badly configured (ie no wins server
