Painfully slow writes in MS-DOS
Hey folks,
I was having a problem at work with Samba 2.2.3a (SuSE 8.0) as well as a Redhat machine I know nothing about and an HP Workstation station I know nothing about.
Each had painfully slow writes from dos clients (for using Norton Ghost). I tried many machines, many nics, and even played with different hubs. All caused problems. I even tried VM-Ware to VM-Ware.
I have Samba 2.2.4 at

Slow Transfers from DOS/LANMAN (again)
A detailed description of our status and dilemma is given below...
This week I've been on samba.org and searched the MARC mailing list
archives for discussions pertinent to our situation. My search for
"slow DOS client" produced over 100 hits dating back to the last
millennium, some of which were really about something else. Many of the
rest were descriptions of problems VERY

Slow writes from MS-DOS LanMan Client to Samba server
Hello together,
well since I'm close to the despair with my problem I wanna
describe it here and maybe anyone has a good idea.
As the subject already told you I'm trying to connect from a
MS-DOS Client to my Samba Server. I'm running a smbd 2.0.5a on a
AMD K6-III machine which has two IBM 16.8 GB IDE drives and is
connected to over a 3com 3c905b with 100Mb to a fullduplex hub.
So far I

File won't copy to client
This is strange, but I use samba for a software archive at work, and we are having trouble with Office 97. I traced it back to riched20.dll. The file is one the server, but it never copies. I can't even see the file. If i rename it, it shows up.
What is up with that?

Automating cupsaddsmb or some alternative
I am developing a print server for a client, and I need to make the ability
to add and configure print servers as simple as possible. So far, cups and
samba are top notch, but there are two problems I have.
One, I need to restart the samba service every time I add a printer.
Two, I need to log in via console or SSH to run cupsaddsmb, and I need to
then authenticate.
I was wondering if there was

--fake-super and xattr between Linux and Solaris 10
Hello trusty rsync list,
I'm excited about --fake-super as it will replace too much work with none at
all. I have gotten it to work under linux and I have a fair grasp with what
is happening there. I have a problem, though, and that is, in the long
term, I'll need to archive my Linux systems not to a Linux box, but to a
Solaris 10 box. I understand that Solaris does have extended

Dear reader, im looking for a tool to tunnel ethernet reliable on

Fast Network Bridge
Hi,
I''m working a lot with xen and migration. Now I switched to Xen 4.2 which is really nice. But there is one big problem. A performence issue.
I used Xen 4.1 with a networkbridge by using the following line in the vm-config:
vif = [ "bridge=eth0,script=vif-bridge" ]
In Xen 4.2 this is not possible anymore so that i have entered the following in my /etc/network/interfaces:

Wireless newtworking in CentOS 5
Installed CentOS 5 on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, hoping that it will
be easier to set up wireless networking than it was in CentOS 4.4. But
still sooooo difficult to get it working, mainly because there doesn't
appear to be a driver pre-installed for this wireless card ((Dell
wireless 1390 Mini PCI network card 802.11b/g). Do I still have to use
ipw2200 and what is this anyway? - I really

Network Performence Scoping
I am looking to scope a server from a network perspective.
The virtual machines will be Linux Apache web servers with fairly high
network trafic receiving small requests.
How many of these virtual machine I can bind to a single Gigabit NIC ?
Will it be possible to fully use the gigabit interface ?
Up to how many gigabits NIC XEN performance starts to decrease ?
Also, is there a

Controller testing and mocks...
So far I''ve been doing my controller testing against "real" (testing)
objects; however, I''ve been beginning to wonder if I should "default" to
using mocks in most cases -- both for performence and to enforce a
looser coupling.
In part this is driven by my viewpoint that rail''s "functional" tests
are still "unit" tests, so they
