WINBIND configuration and NT Authentication
Setup:
Suse 7.2, Samba 2.2.6
Win 2K PDC
Project:
I would like to use winbind to authenticate users that do not have local
accounts on the linux machine for access to various file and print shares.
I have gotten winbind to successfully grab the user and groups from the NT
box (verified by getent passwd). However, I have had little luck obtaining
the permission based file share that I would

Cant get getent to work with Winbind
All,
I am having trouble with the getent passwd and getent group command. I am using 2.2.4-4 version of Samba on a redhat system with 2.4.18-SMP kernel. This issue seems to be intermittent. Sometimes is works and others it doesnt. More often than not, it failes.
I can do a wbinfo -g and -u and get the info so I am connected to the doamin, but not getent. This will affect my users from loging

Cant Log Into Terminal Using Winbind
List,
I am unable to log into a terminal using Winbind service. I have the login file correctly modifyed and nsswitch too. I have the 2.2.5 version of SAMBA with the new winbind. SAMBA shares work great, so I think it is something else. I get this error in the messages log:

Diablo 2 Install
List,
I have been trying to install Diablo 2 using wine with the latest stable.
I read the tutorials on it and it seems that I need a file from
gamecopyworld.com. I believe the file is called fdxd2019.ace. I am not
able to find this file anywhere on that site. Is there a workaround for
this, or does someone have a link to this file.
Thanks

Problem with Winbind
Hi everyone,
I am having a difficult time with winbindd in order to connect to my shared
directories on my HP-UX box. I am running samba 2.2.3a on HP-UX 11, and
here is what's happenning:
I can start winbindd (I'm using -i -d 3 to monitor it), and using wbinfo -u
I can list the domain users. I have joined the domain using smbpasswd -r
PDC -j DOMAIN -U admin%password, I get the reply

Is there any reason why the keyboard poll routine (int 16h) in conio.inc checks fro a serial port.
when pxelinux.0 is run under a vm - the keyboard does not register.
which makes menus useless.
Also the timer is broken.

FW: Accessing Samba share with Win2k
Since I haven't had a response to my earlier post, I'm reposting this with

Yes there's a firewall problem at the moment. I'll try and look at it
today, but for hivex the tarball is currently identical to what is in
git.

Request to an hpa-TFTP enhancement - convert '\' in filenames to '/'
Hello,
I'm working on getting BartPE (normally a LiveCD of Windows XP)
network booted by PXE from a Linux TFTPD server. Normally a M$
RIS server with Active Directory and stuff is necessary, but the basic
filetransfers are all done by TFTP and SMB and can therefore be
delivered by a Linux machine.
I'm referring to this documentation

Winbind problems
Hi,
I'd appreciate any help getting winbind to work on Solaris 8 (Sparc).
I've followed the HOWTOs and other documents on the web but can't seem
to get even the basic functionality going.
Some platform info:
$ uname -a
SunOS epiuse-sun 5.8 Generic_108528-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2
$ smbd -V
Version 2.2.3a
On the NT side it is win2k with an ADS tree.
My samba config:

--link-dest. Time to 'building file list' incrementing
I've been running rsync as a cygwin task on Windows Server 2008 for about two months now. I'm using the --link-dest option to do a daily 'snapshot' of the contents of a server containing about 10TB of data, about 13 million files, to a Linux based NAS server. Things started out great but I soon noticed that the time take to complete was slowly incrementing. It started at around

Kevin
The link-dest parameter is a single directory (the previous day's directory), the destination is today's directory.
I haven't tried deleting a backup, there's no particular need in space terms, at the current rate there's enough space for several years of daily backups.
I've reverted to daily backups on a small subset of the total; the full backup now takes

--link-dest. Time to 'building file list' incrementing
Any ideas anyone?
I still need at least a weekly backup of all data.
The current workaround is just for the most active directories.
Are there any diagnostics I can do which might shed some light on this?
Thanks

RFC: making the xen startup integrate better with distros
What follows below is an outline of what we''re changing in Xen startup
for Fedora 8. I know historically when getting into initscripts you tend
to hit distro specific issues. So I''m posting this to see if there''s any
interest from others in having these changes integrated upstream. I''d
like to thing that with a few minor tweaks this is general enough to be

Question on PAP2 linksys showing off-hook
I am using my first PAP2 device from linksys. Used many polycom phones...
I configured the PAP2 device with asterisk. I have the registration,
thought I was good to go.
Plugged in my Valcom 2924 public address analog connection, called the
extension
and I got busy... very strange I thought.
I then looked at the status page of the PAP2 and it says the following
Reg online and hook state OFF.
